Deep Impact (1998)
Loved this movie even though there were some science issues.
Love this movie if for no other reason one of the lines in it. But sadly they edited it out of the one that played on network TV. Right as the Messiah crew finds out they may be able to take out the big one they realize it's a suicide mission. The Copilot says something like "look at it like this at least we will all have schools named after us". My kind of courage and humor. LOL
Trader Horn (1973)
If I had been alone would have walked out of this movie
This was just a waste. Remember catching a blooper. This was suppose to be in Late 1800s early 1900s but in one scene there was a 60something Chevy Impala you could see drive by just behind some trees and shrubs. Think there was another with jet con trails in it. Acting was so-so directing was bad and the story was just OK. They should have not made it if they could not do it right. The 1931 version was better. I was with family and they did not believe me when I told them about the car. So we sat through it again until that scene to prove I was right and they did see it. Hated watching it again but I was determined to show them I was right. Wish we had not wasted our money on it. Was brutal sitting through it to prove my point.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Amazing Special effects unexpected ending.
I'm not all that big on special effects. But with this at IMAX 3D wow. I really enjoyed the movie. During all the Special effects you kind of are thinking "they're going to die". Great cast. Wondering what will happen with the Chekov character since the tragic death of the young man that played him. Looking forward to the next. I did not give it a 10 because It had a bit TO MUCH special effects. Needs more people stuff. But I grew up during the Original Series so I'm spoiled. The ending was a surprise. Cool to see them build a star ship. Nice to see the cast back. Scoot and Kirk are my fave I think. I will recommend this to a friend and did on FB. Got to See this in IMAX 3D. Waist of all the effects if you don't.
Woodlawn (2015)
Stayed up very late to finish watching this. Totally captivating
I am a Christian and sometimes I see some movies that don't really tell it. Not only is it Accurate but It told it like it is. I felt really good after watching it. I had never heard this story before. Heard about it from a friend I think. If your not a Christian and don't want to be one you might just have your thinking changed. I dare you to watch it. Like they say in the movie it shows the power of 1, One way. Hope you all will watch it. When God show up miracles happen. I know first hand about them. Two or Three times I should have died but am still alive. I guarantee you won't fell worse after watching this. Excellent directing and Cast and very good cinematography. From what I can tell very close to the true story. Real life characters. Real life Truth.
The Host (2013)
Was hesitant to rent it on PPV but very glad I did.
I admit to being a Syfy nut. Love Space Drama. This is not one of those. Not a whole lot of Special Effects. Great plot well executed buy a very good cast. There are a couple of slow spots but it moves at a pretty good pace all in all. I may buy this for my Video collection. Depends on how much it gets shown on cable. I will watch it again someday. I am now looking for a way to share it on FB so My friends can watch it. It's not a big budget film but still a good one. I love the moral of the story and the end. Not to may Syfy or horror movies end up with a positive note. I highly recommend this move. I hope it does well as I would like to see more like it. Hope this is of some help to prospective viewers .
Flight (2012)
Great movie an depiction of Addiction.
I am a recovered Alcoholic and even though I knew the kinds of stuff to expect that did not lessen the impact. I was like watching someones story instead of hearing it at a meeting. It was very true to the problem of addiction. Excellent plot and execution. Great acting. John Goodman was a perfect pick for this as was Denzel Washington. Doubt the Airline Industry will like it. You don't have to be and addict or alcoholic to like it but for those that are not believe me it can be worse than depicted. May give you bit of an idea of what it is like from both sides of the problem if you don't know one. I'd recommend this to anybody. Especially those thinking of trying booze or dope. Some people change after that first drink or fix and it lasts a lifetime.
Prometheus (2012)
Well there were some very strange gaps and flaw but enjoyed it.
There ware some continuity issues and gaps I thought like suddenly everybody had their helmet on in one case and you didn't see their helmets after they took them off. There is also the stupid thing about taking their helmets off so quick. So not going to happen. But I enjoyed it but I did not pay full price had I done that I would have been ticked off. Mr Scott is losing his touch but then he did not direct it or write it. The plot was very thin and like one person said I felt like 30-60 min.. were missing. Visually is was enjoyable and I see where the queen alien is going to be coming from. I'm sure some others will note that. OH it won't be the Elizabeth Shaw it will be the other Female survivor. LOL Never saw her really die.
The Avengers (2012)
Very Good story, it has a Moral, writing and good acting.
It's about time. Another movie without senseless violence. It has a moral. Some will claim it's sappy or Cliché. But I was so in need of a action movie with a moral and a positive theme. I could have done with a little less violence so kids could go. Just a little to much but thankfully not graphic. All in all I loved it. I am also really hoping to see more like it especially anything not a Zombie movie. I don't always agree with Marvel Comics or Stan Lee but on this one I have to give a thumbs up. Now if we can just get some other Genre's with a plot and good acting. Thanks Marvel. OH almost forgot thanks for letting Captain America be Captain America.
The Grey (2011)
Should have been a 7 except for the plot and the ending.
OK let me warn you this review may be a spoiler.
I would normally have given this movie at least a five 5 maybe a seven 7 star rating except for the ending and a thin plot. If you like a movie with a moral to it this is not it. I failed to detect a moral. The acting is very good and I am a big fan of Liam Neeson, Dallas Roberts and also Dermot Mulroney who was almost unrecognizable in the movie. So I really wanted to like this move. I should have read the reviews. The plot was a little thin and the ending sucked. I hate that kind of ending. It could have been so much more.
SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT. I really hate the "live sucks and then you die" movies. They had me right up until the ending. I know "you can imagine any ending you want argument". In my opinion those are just an trick when the writer is stuck or lazy. As with all of these this is my opinion and I am no movie critic. I just know what I like. FYI I am over 40 and I have seen a ton of movies. I am a movie nut so I am a bit jaded I want a plot and good acting. I like action but not without a plot and acting to go with it. This had good acting considering what they had to work with.
The Grace Card (2010)
I injoyed the movie. Some good acting in it and a great story.
It had a message and it was not to much God for most people. It had at least two positive messages and a moral. They poured it on a bit thick at the end but except for that I loved it. Yes I am a Christian. I am aware that some Christians think it was not Christian enough etc... If our primary purpose is to carry the message then we have to carry a message that they will listen to and not freak out when they get beat over the head with a forced message. I think for the most part it does a good job of that. I thought the very end was contrived and really reaching but that is just my opinion. I would have done it different but I don't know what that would have been. Love the two lead actors. Pretty good jobs especially Higgenbottom. Nice to see Lou Gosset Jr. too. The other actors were pretty good too. I kept in mind that these are not big money movies and in spite of that I was surprised at the acting still being good. You got to remember there is also directing and editing that makes the movie. OH I loved the music. That one song at the end always gets me.
