Ricki and the Flash (2015)
Excellent film and music!
Saw this the night before opening night because I just couldn't wait. Loved it! That Meryl learned the guitar enough in 6 months to play like that is phenomenal! As a Springfield fan since 1972, I am not surprised at all at just how wonderful his performance was, but I'm just as sure others will be very surprised. This was a great cast. So nice to watch a smartly written film; it knows that it's audience is smart and doesn't need to have everything spelled out for them. Wardrobe was great. It really enhances the difference between the two cultures in a way that doesn't even have to be described. The best part? True characters in real situations who don't change who they are. Refreshing! The music? Wonderful! Love that they took the hard road and recorded all the music in live performance. Excellent musicians playing wonderful songs. The original song "Cold One" is a perfect accompaniment for this film. Great care was put into picking the songs to fit the film. I have always loved Dobie Gray's "Drift Away", but from now on I will always think of this scene when I hear it...
Men of the Cloth (2013)
A wonderful documentary
This is an excellent film. It will appeal to many people, on many different levels, but if you are interested in impeccably made clothing, master level craftsmanship, and honoring traditions, you will love this documentary. Such wonderful, talented men. I am so glad that the film-makers honored them by taking the time to document their skills before they are lost. Fine Tailoring is a time-consuming art, requiring years of training, and in this disposable world full of cheap clothing there is not as large a market for these beautiful clothes as there used to be. There are also not a lot of people anymore who are willing to spend the years required to learn these skilled trades. Hopefully, this will inspire people to not only learn to appreciate the skill involved, but maybe to even take up the art so this does not become a lost art.
The Fields (2011)
A must-see. They got it right!
A tense and atmospheric psychological thriller that gets it right- the right script, cast, crew, music, feel, tone and look. The 3 main cast members, Josh Ormond, Bev Appleton, and Cloris Leachman are pitch perfect, playing characters so realistically that you can follow the story without interruption; so important. A great cast of supporting characters creates a true, real life, small town feel for this truly disturbing story.
Keep an eye out for Josh Ormond; I think we will be seeing a lot from this young man. Such a huge part for such a young man and he managed it beautifully! Be sure to see this film. If you miss it, you'll regret it!
