Classical, beautiful, illogical
6 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of "detective-with-a-broken-heart" movies, I gave this title a high rating. There is no shame in that: it contains beautiful pictures, they've managed to present a silence and one's inwardness in the middle of the city and most of the actors are well-fit for their roles (as well appearance as acting skills), the story consists of all the classical parts (drunk cop kills the innocent/hangover cop has remorse/retired cop wants to make up for the evil done etc., reveals the dove's heart in a macho chest). I took away two points though - because of the monstrous logic holes in the storyline and the hideous stereotypes that made my heart and brain bleed. Just to provide few examples... GAPS: if entering unasked the residence of a drug dealer - ain't you supposed to meet some rottweilers, security guards-mugs or at least a door lock with an alarm? And why did the two psychos actually do it? Who were they? Being a mature and concerned detective, would u give a rifle to a junkie trusting in his aiming skills? STEREOTYPES: are u sure that every Russian mobster wears a sport-suit and white socks with rubber slippers? Do bad guys are always like Pinkie & Brain (full contradictions)? Still, the movie is worth watching. Just don't expect to be surprised with anything. Watch it for pure visual pleasure and simple entertainment. And don't read too many reviews, because there is actually not much to say about the story anyway.

Busty chicks running away in sweaty T-shirts from volcano eruption
22 February 2014
Imagine a group of strangers involved in an apocalyptic event with no story and meaning behind their meeting. No development of the characters at all. Imagine volcano fumes that on one hand kill by-passers on the spot, but on the other hand are stopped by a glass&lead door. Imagine parents who take their daughter to a bus-trip to a volcano mountain, that is obviously waking up. Imagine all sorts of ridiculous things, e.g. a man going to a sort of job interview, coincidentally having with him 2 satellite telephones... Last but not least, imagine few busty slim cute chicks running away from a disastrous hot gases etc. And that would be the summon of evil of this movie :)

Hate Crime (2005)

Movie of the lost potential
7 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
For such an important topic as homophobia (and, in general, any kind of fear & aggression towards a certain group of people), this movie does not have any input. In my opinion that is because it is so painfully stereotypical! The gay couple consists of two quite rich, handsome, big-hearted and loving each other madly men. Gentle, soft, sincere, helpful - all what's best in a human. What is worst in us is represented by the characters of gay-haters. They are all double-faced, buttoned-up till their necks (and I mean also the clothes they wear), always making evil faces and keeping their muscles in amazingly visible tension. Especially the preacher's son seems to me like a parody of himself. Just like in a Bollywood movie: his eyebrows look very angry, so that you don't miss, he is very angry. Add some angry music in the background and it's ready: he is very angry. Put one stereotype against another, and is becomes comic rather than dramatic. Also, the depth of a relationship between preacher and his son is lost. And it's a shame, that could bring more light to what happens. Why does suddenly a detective with a camera appear to follow the son? (BTW, the movie have few more logic gaps, e.g. no password for a computer if you want to hide something really really "nasty" and "perverted"). Despite the shallow treatment of the gay-haters topic, it is worth to see the movie for it's way of playing with silence and for it's beautiful pictures. I really thought I felt the atmosphere of that town. Beautiful and touching. Unfortunately, the way of talking about the hate-crime did not touch me. It just happened, because one side was good and the other was bad. Black & white world, just like in conservative minds.
