Powder (1995)
OK, get over it - it's a great love story!!!
Not all love stories are guy-girl. This is just a huge human love story. And I LOVED it! Set the popcorn on refill mode and keep a keg of beer and a whole bunch of Kleenex at hand for the ending.
First off, if Lance Henriksen reads the back of a toilet paper roll, sign me up and put me in the front row. The man delivers 110% to whatever role he is given. Period. Second, Ms Mary is a home girl, so props to her. Period. The rest of the cast I thought were superb. Again, period. This is a genuine feel-good movie and I highly recommend it.
I am not going to give any spoilers for that would - spoil it. But let me say that as an avid movie watcher (older than most of you lot) this one had me hooked first to last. And I did not anticipate the ending though if I could it would have not been better.
Go forth and enjoy!
Ghost Adventures (2008)
I freaking LOVE these guys!!! ::Happy Hearts Day spoiler::
I have to admit it - me, a long time "yeah, right, uh huh, whatever" gal loves these guys! Just don't tell my husband. Please.
reeseslightning pretty much encapsulated the basic constructs of their personalities. Their shear exuberance can be annoying at times but at least they are limited in their annoyances. No huge long camera crews, no scipts, it is as it is and, oddly enough, GH is trying hard to emulate that.
I admit I was a hardcore GH fan until I stumbled on this crew. I think I found their original episode by accident and since then I have been hooked. Long live the GA crew!!!! They are funny, fun, scary and oddly informative. None of the internal histrionics that the GH crew had, no crew changes (national versus internal - who the hell cares?) Just three good ole boys, doing what they do. And I have to admit it, I loved the Valentine's Day episodes too. Talk about look for love in all the strange places. ::hahahaha::
The Film Crew: Hollywood After Dark (2007)
"The Film Crew" is the only reason to watch this horrible movie ***Possible spoilers***
This movie was beyond bad; the planks on the walkway had more personality. Were it not for some kind soul defining the "plot" of this piece, I never would have picked it up. That makes this flick perfect fodder for the perfect crew, "The Film Crew." Rue McClanahan - a stripper? A YOUNG stripper? A young NAIVE stripper? No offense to the golden "Golden Girl" but she looks fantastic now - much better now than when this piece was filmed. In short, you get a couple of bad boy "hep cats" who run a bunch of clubs, she (a hired dancer with stars in her eyes) has to shed more and more clothes, her act is "too classy" for the drooling patrons, etc. Girl falls in love with a brooding Shakespearean devotee ex-military underwater demolition specialist who runs a junk yard, add the beach scene from "From Here to Eternity," very stiff dialog, a weak bank robbery scene, a bit of karma for the really bad guys (one kills the other for the money and the survivor bites it in a car crash - we think) and you get really bored really fast.
Enter "The Film Crew." And you know who they are by now. I loved their takeoff of "Charlie's Angels." After the first five seconds of the movie and some witty repartee, you pretty much forget to watch the movie and just enjoy the banter, you can't wait for the next quip.
There are no robots, no crows, no silhouettes but you don't miss 'em. There is a more mature theme with the crew and while it's not X-rated, it's definitely adult. They are spontaneous, they play off each other and it is hysterical. (Loved the lunch meeting.) You will laugh. I'm not that easily entertained but this one did it for me.
Watch it. Be amused. Be entertained. Have a good time.
The Devil's Rejects (2005)
Awesome!!!
I have not seen 1,000 Corpses and I had no idea this was a sequel of sorts to it.
I have seen more horror flicks that I care to count but - this one? It is a damned good movie. It was unique, it was fresh. I loved it, I was literally sitting on the edge of my lounger the entire time. It was put together in a cohesive way, the characters flowed, their comments and actions made sense and it was crazy enough to make you think it might actually happen. One of my children is a criminal psychologist and she walked out after 10 minutes. She said that if she wanted to be reminded of work, she would GO to work. She wanted to be - entertained.
I don't recall actually SEEING the copious amounts of blood and gore that some folks keep pointing to. I do recall a lot of SUGGESTION about it, either by the characters talking or seeing some of the photos from the scrapbooks.
The casting was a fantastic ensemble crew - I'd pay to watch Forsythe read the toilet paper label - I love Michael Berryman, it was great to see PJ Soles Priscilla Barnes on the screen again, and Mrs. Zombie and the rest of the cast were perfect. They really got into the skin of their characters. It just worked. I saw it as a rather hard in-your-face movie about people and their attitudes, their perceptions of what is acceptable behavior, their morals. Or lack of. It does not glorify murder and abuse, it does not portray the Firefly's in a way to get your grudging empathy and/or sympathy. They were evil people but thought it was normal behavior. One of my children is a criminal psychologist and she walked out after 10 minutes.
I admit I was mad at first when I thought they would survive the Sheriff's rage and vengeance and manage to get away with it all. And while he not only fell across the line of sanity and landed on the other side, I was upset when the Sheriff died.
This is a great movie for horror buffs - especially those interested in psychological horror. I hope to see more of this quality of film and scripting from Mr. Zombie.
Torched (2004)
Not that bad.
Unlike the kind person who posted before me, I found this to be an most interesting short.
Forget how bad you think the acting is, the script and/or the plot. For me the dialog is chilling. A young nurse is brutally raped and she gets revenge but at a huge cost. She loses contact with reality.
I identified with this woman in more ways than one. OK, I never captured a rapist and tortured him to death but that doesn't mean I didn't want to. Maybe it because I'm a woman, maybe it is because I've been raped twice and survived. On a level of visceral empathy, this is something I've dreamed about doing. Someone has taken our life slowly and we want to give the mental and physical torture right back.
'Dems my thoughts and comments.
Man of a Thousand Faces (1957)
Loved it!!!
Contrary to some, I feel that Lon Chaney would be dancing in the aisles with this movie. A tribute to him and his great works. Who cares if it may or may not closely resemble "real life!" What celluloid project is ever an absolute depiction? Personally, I thought it to be a movie film industry's fond and deep appreciation for an excellent multifaceted actor and I viewed it as such. Cagney may not resemble Chaney Sr. but he definitely captured Chaney's drive and dedication.
It was a great movie with great actors. I loved the first time I saw it and I love it just as much now, many years later. It's a grand piece and I highly recommend it to everyone.
