Dracula (2002– )
5/10
Faithful to Stoker and full of pathos
18 December 2019
By far one of the best screen version of Dracula ever. The screenplay for 90% of the movie is absolutely faithful to the original novel even if the story is set in the XX century and not in the XIX. The location in Hungary and in general in eastern Europe give to the story the right atmosphere for a vampire who is in fact a noble from Valacchia. Patrick Bergin is a lot more belivable as Dracula then Gary Oldman ever was, and even if of course he doesn' have the phisique du role of Christopher Lee, the psicologhy is a lot more close to the original character then in any Hammer flick. A wonderful discovery.

A tasty fairytale
5 November 2011
A good surprise. I knew Dungeon Siege not from the video game, but from the comics, and I enjoyed this movie version. The script is nothing particularly new, but the acting is decent and the photography (which wants to imitate Peter Jackosn's "Lord of the Rings") is not bad at all. I liked Ron Perlman and to see Burt Reynolds as a sort of old King Arthur was a pleasant surprise. Statham is not Mortensen, for sure, but he's not a bad choice for the role. Orcs like creatures, castle's dungeons which remind very much Saruman's tower, magic forests and an evil sorcerer (even if Ray Liotta is the only one I would not have chosen to play this part)gives to the movie a Tolkienanian air which I liked. The secret is not to take the whole thing too much seriously.
