The Hitman (1991)
Watchable.
Official critics reviewed this movie mostly negative, it is clearly why - corny (officialy dead cop alive under cover) and weak (the chemistry between Grogan and Delaney is obvious and very tensed, but unfortunately Delany appears only at the beginning and towards the end of the movie) plot. Yet still, for an average audience, it is adequate and entertaining. Direction, photography (great depiction of grim and at the same time melancholic autumn) and soundtrack are certainly better parts of the movie. I like the most the fact that Chuck Norris play more, and fights/shoots less, because he is known as a great action hero, but underrated as an actor.
Falling Down (1993)
When everything goes wrong
After watching Falling Down, I didn't know how to react; to cry or to be infuriated. This movie shows excellently what is wrong with modern society. Not to mention the parallel story of an ordinary police officer, that everyone mocks him out for his passive stance, until he stands up and proves to everyone that they are wrong.
Great depiction of real-life events and excellent play (most notably Douglas as D-fens). However - social situation was already dire in 1993, now it's only worse. Maybe making a remake and placing it into present environment (aproximatelly 20 years after the original) wouldn't be such a bad idea.
At least it would make viewers think about it - when, how, and WHY did it went wrong.
