The 100 (2014)
Don't lose your time with this TV show
How this series can be so bad? I'm baffled it gets as of today a 7,8 score. Maybe I could understand it if it's target audience was 10 to 12 year olds... but not even then really. Bear in mind I have only been able to complete episode one, and with a lot of effort that's been as multiple times I've felt like stop watching it for good.
There are many wrongs here and I'm not going to detail everything. See for yourself (although there are more than 100.000 viewers rating this over 5 points and 31.8% voters giving it 10 points, so this review is at a minority here). Pace... where is pace? suspense? development of story and characters? We are just abruptly spoon feed key events, characters and the whole of the script since the very beginning. I'm not going to delve into more details... it's too late to be up writing! but I can't help to mention that music and its use at hectic moments was nauseating at best... TV commercial level or worst. On the whole it's a shame, I wish they would've make something else out of this idea/story.
The Martian (2015)
Whatever happened to good space movies?
Underwhelming and boring movie, can't understand how it gets so much acclaim and good reviews in general. The theme of man overcoming challenges through "science" sprinkled with disco music here and there to awaken viewers along the way and raise their spirits felt cliché and didn't make it for me. The film just felt somewhat void and foreseeable. I think it lacked suspense and if I may "planetary or space awesomeness", but of course that is not the mood the film aims at, so you can blame me for judging it from my expectations rather than than considering the movie in itself. However, to me it seems almost like a movie about Mars had to be made and this is what we got.
You would expect something special coming from Ridley Scott, or maybe not after the disappointment of Prometheus (for me that film deflated at about the equator and contained some odd script and dialogue nonsense) What happened to old good space movies?
Black Water (2007)
Waste of time
Although this movie is not bad cinematically speaking and has its merits it turned out to be a waste of time (at least for me). But fear not, it is not in any way comparable to films in the vein of "Anaconda" or such. Black Water is conceived and thought out quite differently. The appearances of the crocodile out of the water are succinct and played out sparsely so there is some ongoing suspense and tension throughout the movie. However from the start you can see events coming so there are no many surprises and the whole movie could be summed up -with some "licenses"- by the children's song sang premonitory by the first victim: "Three cheeky monkeys swinging the trees, Teasing Mr. Crocodile, 'You can't catch me'. When along came the crocodile, as quiet as can be and Snap! went the crocodile and ate one for his tea.
Two cheeky moneys..." and on and on.
