Nowhere Land (1998)
a lesson on Abruzzo
Decent film not meant to be taken seriously.
The star of the film is mafia hit-man Walfredo (Francesco Quinn) who constantly talks about the old country(Italy) more specifically "Abruzzo".
He switches between Italian and English but everything he says is so funny with that heavy Italian accent.
The rest of the film is predictable, typical for a B-movie but most films are even latest big budget films.
There is no point talking about acting or directing just take what it offers.
Wrong Side of Town (2010)
Well balanced film
This is a fantastic film, enjoyable, funny, relaxing. The acting is descent, the story engaging filled with comedy. Its a story about friendship and man's approach to troubles that fate throughs his way. The most extraordinary thing about the characters is their realistic actions to their specific circumstances. For example RVD character never escalates the situation, he only reacts or the gang leaders infuriating rage after the death of his son, very funny and enjoyable to watch, almost like a theatre play. I don't get it why people criticise this film so much, sure they like shallow films like avatar or there will be blood, basically clichés or pretentious films. Wrong side of town is a well balanced film for its budget.
Rampart (2011)
soap opera drama
The film is well done and interesting to watch always 'promising' that it will escalate in drama or tragedy at any time. Great acting from Woody Harrison as his character struggles with his family. His character is confusing because in one hand he seems careless and irresponsible for his actions and on the other hand he realises that his action are hurting his family and he feels bad about it. In the end the film fails to deliver a potent turning point to mesmerise the audience. It seem that now days is hard to find a film that satisfies, always leaving open endings, letting the audience 'take' from it what it likes i.e don't bother watching because is nothing to learn from it.
No Country for Old Men (2007)
Too philosophical
This is good film with nice settings, story, acting and character development. It goes wrong when it tries to be too philosophical and preachy, especially from the Tommy Lee Johns character. Also the ending is terrible. It nicely builds up the characters of the good and bad guy then suddenly the good guy dies which is completely unnecessary. This part is similar to unexplained ending with the bad guy. I don't know what meaning of these are and I don't want to know. I am sure in the Caan film festival they can give a million explanations for weird evens like this. Would have been a fantastic film if it just delivered what a film is supposed to do instead of complicating things unnecessary.
