A Professor (2021– )
Mixed feelings
25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After watching Nuovo Olimpo with Damiano Gavino I was eager to see other movies in which he starred. I was thoroughly impressed with Nuovo Olimpo and with his acting.

Previews of Un Professore gave me the impression of strong LGBTQ themes in the movie. However, what storylines did contain these themes were few - and underdeveloped. Previews of this movie teased that we'd see certain relationships develop. However, they did not - at least in the way we were teased.

Once Season 2 began, it became evident that we'd see the same. In fact, what we did see was borderline uninteresting. Although "Un Professore" IS indeed about a professor, his life, and his students, I just wonder about the audience. Over 75% of the characters are high school aged. Thus, the audience likely skews as younger. In summary, does a younger audience really want Season 2 to begin with an older / divorced heterosexual couple being the primary focus?

I give this movie a high rating because of Season 1. However, I fear that my continuing to watch Season 2 will disappoint me. It has already bored me due to what I mentioned above. I want to see modern themes that younger generations can relate to. Watching depressed / stressed older couples is not interesting to me. And, I say this as an older viewer. I was hoping for something more fresh - and with stronger LGBTQ themes.

Finally, I hate watching a series in which interesting characters do not return the following season. It is mildly heartbreaking to see characters you've become attached to "written off." I'm mostly thinking of a character that received a lot of focus in the last episode of Season 1. * Spoiler * His name is Pen. Why not bring him back for Season 2? We became emotionally attached to him. We loved seeing his growth during Season 1. Then, suddenly, he's gone. And, new characters in which we have zero emotional connection to are introduced. As a viewer, this is very disappointing.

M. Night Shyamalan "vibe" that falls apart several times
11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie gave me M. Night Shyamalan vibes several times up until maybe halfway through. So many mysteries we were waiting to get answers to! Lots of questions! At times it reminded me of The Happening. But - this is where any potential greatness stopped. The last 1/3 of the movie was increasingly disappointing.

Sadly, we were left with so many unanswered questions and dead-ends to each mystery and storyline. Many spoilers ahead: The screaming Spanish speaking woman's urgent problem need for help. The pink flamingoes and why there was a migration of birds. Deer acting quite strange and seemingly wanting to pick fights with the humans. Two airplanes seemingly crashing in the exact same spot hours apart from each other. A million white Teslas coming from the countryside and heading towards the city. Is there a massive Tesla dealership on Long Island? Almost no other people around - anywhere. A house that apparently has full electricity and water when power is out everywhere else. An unlocked bomb shelter.

Overall the acting and script were lackluster, jumbled and nothing to be excited about. What could've been good... wasn't.

What a mess. I like thrillers and mysteries. But, not 20 plot holes, a very long list of unanswered questions, and an ending that is neither funny or fulfilling.

The ending reminds me of Game of Thrones. Absolutely disappointing and zero satisfaction to viewers who stayed to the end.

Barbie (I) (2023)
Honestly - not funny and light enough
21 July 2023
I really enjoyed the first 20 minutes of the movie. It was very upbeat, positive and light. However, things soon became negative about 20 - 25 minutes into the movie. I couldn't stand it. Barbie's world and attitude was a constant bummer. Ken's attitude was sour. For the next hour (and more) the movie just lived in negativity.

I bought tickets to this show a month ago. And, I saw it the day before the official opening day. I was very excited about this movie. And, I was playing the music (Dua Lipa) song almost every day. I was really excited for this movie - and was looking forward to something very positive. But, the vast majority of the movie was the "conflict" part of the writing. It was just too much! The movie didn't need to go that way, that far, that fast. I would have preferred a more shallow and fun Barbie movie vs. This Barbie movie filled with over an hour of conflict.

The White Lotus (2021–2025)
I definitely LOVE this series.
22 November 2022
Wow. This is one of my favorite new series in recent years.

The writing is 100% spot on. Everything scene and every part of the script is an important part of what makes this series special. There isn't "fluff" for the sake of adding dialogue.

I'd LOVE if this series was at least 10 episodes per season, and even if each episode was another 10 - 12 minutes longer. I find myself "thirsty" to know what will happen next with each character, with each couple, etc.

The first two seasons have similarities, but I appreciate that nothing about season 2 seems repetitive. Everything is original. I'm going to really miss the characters / actors from season 2. But, I know that each season needs to be fresh to keep this amazing program spectacular.

I can't wait for the next episode... and for the next season to start. I don't know how they'll beat the scenery of Sicily. This series has some of the best photography on any program.

Maybe White Lotus Bali is next? We'll see.

Reviews for this movie are insane.
15 October 2022
It's amazing how so many people are complaining about this franchise, going on and on about how they chose to end it.

Jamie Lee Curtis has been a part of this movie series since 1978. Don't you think HER opinion is about 500x more credible and important than random anonymous viewers who think that THEY know what's best for the series??

This franchise doesn't belong to people sitting at home complaining about something they had no part in. These films belong to those who have kept this series going for decades. We've all been along for the ride. If you don't like one of the movies - then don't watch the next one.

Normally I think that viewers have the right to complain about anything. But, too many viewers are letting their own opinions go to their heads.

Jamie Lee Curtis, thank you for this series. It's been great to travel along with you since 1978.

The Old Man (2022– )
Simply amazing.
31 August 2022
This is what a great TV show should be like. I couldn't help but binge all of the episodes in a single sitting.

Original storyline. Great acting. Jeff Bridges is at the top of his game. The same is true with John Lithgow. Superb writing. Just enough twists and turns to keep you guessing what might come next. Not overly complex. A mysterious and calm thriller.

The timeline jumps back and forth in a very clean and understandable way. Probably the best I've seen in a while.

Hopefully "The Old Man" continues beyond its first season. Its too good to run for just 1 season. Great cast. I'd recommend this show to anyone who likes this genre.

Downton Abbey (2019)
Imagine a Downton Abbey TV Episode at Full Throttle
13 September 2019
Take your favorite 10 things about Downton Abbey (the TV series), and then put them onto the big screen for 2 hours. Full throttle without holding back. You'll laugh many times. You'll smile. You'll possibly even cry. Of course, Maggie Smith is wonderful as always. It is one of the few movies I've been to where the audience started clapping at the end of the movie. Julian Fellowes certainly knows how to play to the Downton Abbey crowd. Although this may sound odd, I really recommend seeing this is the theater vs. waiting until it is on your TV. There is something special about seeing your favorite characters on a massive screen.

Excellent!!! WOW.
16 July 2005
I wasn't expecting this movie to be this good, although I hoped that it would be. Rarely do I walk away from a movie and say, "A+" but this is one movie where I did.

I'm sure that some viewers will complain that this movie has a down tone to much of it. Of course, much of the movie centers on the harsh reality of domestic violence & how this affects a family & in particular, a son who didn't have the true support of his father. But, the lasting message is one of victory over circumstances. The main character's mother once said to her son, "Are you as strong as I think you are? In the head." She got it right. He didn't need to be strong physically. But, he had to have the inner strength to overcome all that he faced by having a selfish and sometimes cruel father.

Some of my favorite lines in this movie...

"It's funny how the stumbling blocks of life can help make us better people. I never had the support of my father. But, in the end that's what gave me the strength to seek something more than I could have ever imagined." "You were always a fighter." "Only you can make something of yourself. Not your father, not me." "Are you as strong as I think you are? In the head." "You are my hero." (Said to his mother)
