Stalker (II) (2020)

Didn't expect it to be decent?
23 May 2023
I picked this up on a whim, randomly picked a Hulu movie and to be honest, I didn't have high expectations. However, it turned out good.

This thriller-horror is a very decent watch. Obviously it's low budget so don't expect a masterclass in terms of cinematography or anything but the plot holds! The suspense is there and chemistry is okay. The only complaint I have when it comes to acting is the lead actor who didn't really deliver as much.

Christine Ko was absolutely superb in this film! I don't know why she isn't more popular, just checked her Imdb page. Never heard of her before but she carried the film!

Overall, a decent watch to pass time but don't expect anything extraordinary. 4.5/10.

I want to thank the director - This movie prevented me from having a relapse
31 January 2023
I watched a couple of absolutely horrible horror movies back to back to back and finally got something good from this one.

Cinematography - Had no idea Joe Begos was the director, from the director of Bliss and VFW comes another visually stunning flick. If I was rating this purely based on the visuals it would've easily been a 9.5/10. Very beautiful aesthetics, angles, colors, nailed it once again. I recognized a familiar pattern while watching the movie.

Plot - It's pretty straightforward, the only complaint I have is about cutting one character short too early in the movie(in my opinion). I'm keeping it spoiler free but that's about it. Easy to digest and without major holes.

Acting - Riley Dandy killed it. No clue who she is, just checked her IMDb page but she was superb here. Very convincing and carried the entire movie by herself.

I'm going to go with 6/10 simply because it dragged a little towards the end and was a pretty simple film. Intense but not in a way VFW or Bliss were. Enjoyable simple film nonetheless for the horror lovers <3.

There are days when I absolutely hate being a horror fan. This was one of them
27 January 2023
Honestly, I have no idea how will I reach the required limit of characters. Snoozefest from first to last second. It's BEYOND BORING. Take the most boring film you've ever seen, multiply by 1000 - and boom, you have Skinamarink.

There's nothing in this movie, if you can even call it that, worth watching. I tuned out after the first 20 mins and endured the pain since I never turn off movies. It was so unbearable. Boring, boring, boring.. If this scares you then I have no idea. You must've never watched any horror.

It has one half decent jump scare to be honest, it almost gave me a heart attack, not because it was scary but because I mentally tuned out entirely so it caught me by surprise.

Negative 100 out of 10.

From a massive fan of V/H/S franchise, this was a massive DISAPPOINTMENT
23 October 2022
Let me start by saying I wasn't overly optimistic when I saw who the writers were. That, coupled with this year being such a huge letdown horror wise rang all kinds of alarm bells. Nonetheless, I still went with some expectations because it's VHS movie, so it has to be at least decent, right? Dead wrong.

I'm going to break it down by segments:

The only segment that was somewhat interesting (and I'm being very generous here), was The Gawkers. And by interesting I mean the ending of it. There's so much they could've done with it, won't spoil but you know which mythical creature I'm talking about here. We Summon The Darkness and Tragedy Girls were good so I'm not surprised this was the only segment that was decent. 5/10

Moving on, To Hell and Back was the second one in this movie. Subpar and below standards (4/10) but it wasn't outright catastrophic. Acting was good and it comes from same people who wrote Deadstream so it was watchable.

Shredding. I knew movie was going to suck when the first segment didn't deliver. I have no ide who Maggie Levin is except that she's known for The Black Phone (which was awful) and this didn't deliver either. There was no scare factor and it was extremely straightforward. Not overly bad, just kinda pointless. 3/10

Suicide Bid. I honestly have no clue why would anyone make this? It wasn't scary, wasn't interesting, there was no investment in character(s), just why? It was so blank and empty. 2.5/10 if I'm being generous

And finally - Ozzy's Dungeon. The worst segment I've ever seen in any VHS film. Absolutely horrendous and catastrophic in every single aspect. Have no idea who "Flying Lotus" is but this was so, so bad. Amateur level. 1/10

Overall, I have to give it a 3/10 because of two stories being watchable but that's as much as I can give. Such a shame another franchise is ruined by this. Horrible. I'm so disappointed.

Fun treat - don't take it too seriously
19 October 2022
I keep seeing negative reviews for this film and don't understand why? A lot of people used the word "boring" while it literally can't be used to describe it. Simple? Sure. Dumb? Yes. Boring? Hell no.

It's a typical popcorn horror to watch with friends and have fun. The "who done it" comes into full effect while everyone contributes in their own way. The movie doesn't take itself too seriously and makes fun of social tropes. If that's not your thing, I understand, but it is in no way boring.

The pace is pretty good, acting performances are solid, very intense and keeps your attention. I had a good laugh multiple times which says a lot considering I don't like horror comedies. The aspects I liked the most about this film are it's self awareness and genuinely not knowing who did it midway through. I'd recommend watching this for Halloween with a group of friends and having a blast! Not a masterpiece but a solid 7/10 from me.

Technical difficulties & horrible acting fest
19 October 2022
I honestly didn't expect it to be THIS bad. It managed to be atrocious in every single aspect of filmography, which is quite an achievement in itself.

Part 1(spoiler free)

  • acting is absolutely horrendous. During the entire first part, main girl behaves like she's on 10mg of Xanax and is being held at gunpoint, threatened to not show any facial expression whatsoever. I'm not even exaggerating, she maybe made one smile during her entire screen time. Male lead is almost just as bad, incapable of acting afraid. There's a scene where most of us would go completely mental but he keeps looking around and ultimately screams to the equivalent of someone stealing a toy from him as opposed to what's going on on the screen.

  • sound is off; you often can't even hear people properly because they either mumble their words or it's entirely off. I had to check was the issue on my end or not and sadly, it's not me. On top of that, sound effects come at the wrong time which in turn makes this look even more cartoonish and ridiculous.

-photography is extremely bad. I can't emphasize how bad this segment is. They legitimately didn't know how to properly cut from one scene to the next. It ends up being cut mid scene most of the time which makes this movie look completely amateurish.

  • it moves at snails pace. Pacing is bad in most low budget horror movies but believe me, this one tops the cake. They never knew when to introduce jumpscares and when not to. Direction is pretty much aimless and you truly have a sense of someone who doesn't know what they're doing at all directed this.

  • whatever plot they tried to convey by doing this is overly simplistic and straightforward (while attempting to not be so), falls very flat and goes nowhere.

Part 2 & epilogue (spoiler free)

  • acting is much better here but the damage is already done. Rebekah Kennedy and Kristina Klebe do a pretty good job, which makes me wonder how did Kristina get involved into this mess in the first place? I see she's listed as a writer too, sincerely hope she didn't write the first part of the movie.

  • it struggles with same issues part 1 did, incoherent pacing, horrible photography, lines that don't make sense(but these two make it work at least somewhat unlike the previous duo).

  • logical inconsistency. This made my brain hurt. Can't say too much without spoiling but: Witches are capable of doing many different and powerful things in this movie, yet opening a door isn't one of them. Likewise, the very ending is so profoundly stupid that it can't be put into words. Won't spoil, you'll know what I'm talking about if you decide to watch this absolute amateur trainwreck.

In conclusion, if this is on your list because you're doing a horror month challenge like I am - SKIP IT. Go watch something else, there are plenty of horror movies that are bad but not as bad as this one. This is hands down the worst horror movie I've seen this year and at this point I've seen over 100+ horror films that came out in 2022. Ultimate waste of time, it's not even good enough for you to watch for a list.

STOP! Don't watch!
18 October 2022
HUGE WARNING for how boring and utterly POINTLESS and obvious it is. I'm being dead serious here! It doesn't get more boring and more pointless than this. Save your time, otherwise you'll have exactly the same reaction as me, which is - wtf? And not in a good way either. If there was a minus 10, this "movie" would certainly get it.

I'm going to keep this spoiler free but there's quite literally nothing to spoil anyway since it's all spelt out! The only thing that actually happens is a cute story and that's it! Are you kidding me? Who came up with this? Give an iPhone to a 5 year old and I guarantee you they'd make a better "movie".

Superb movie - DON'T TRUST NEGATIVE REVIEWS
3 June 2022
Annie is absolutely hilarious from start to finish. Plot is decent, gore is good, scares are there. Intense through and through. Some things aren't explained hence 9/10 but overall it was a great and exceptionally entertaining film.

All of the negative reviews are from people who are triggered by this movie.

Something unique
19 October 2021
Don't know why IMDb rating is so low nor why are people leaving negative reviews. It was a different concept with non-linear storyline but it wasn't hard to keep up with at all. I guess most people want simplicity.

Character arcs are great. Cast is great. Plot twists are unexpected. The entire film is very different from usual horror films of this sub-genre.

It's atmospheric and cinematography is good. There is adjusting period to non linear plot but you catch up very quickly after the first 20-25mins.

Kills are gory and satisfying, ending is pure emotion.

7.5/10, would watch again.

Huge fail at both "comedy" AND "horror" - a true DISASTER
19 October 2021
In all honesty, I have never in my life watched something so unfunny. Not a singular funny line in a movie desperately trying to be funny the entire time. None.

Definition of cringe.

Obviously no scary scenes.

Stay away from this, whatever this is. 0/10.

Strange
19 October 2021
I wasn't bored by this film despite nothing happening for hour and 40 minutes. For whatever reason film keeps your attention and is interesting.

There isn't much to say really. I understood the "mystery" people keep debating but other than that.. Pretty straightforward and flat film.

4/10.

Not your typical exorcism movie - Loved it
19 October 2021
Pleasantly surprised. Far from ordinary exorcism 1/10 movie. Good background, good characters, good acting, very good plot, good scares.

No simple solutions, no convenient plot, nothing you see in these kind of movies. Very interesting and original concept performed quite well.

Loved the ending! It's one of the best endings I've seen in a while.

Every trope pulled into one movie.. Seen it all before
19 October 2021
Tons of tropes. Remake of a remake of a remake.. Same story we've been seeing through the years, poorly executed.

I feel for the cast since it was a good one. Also good camerawork. But no plot. Predictable as predictable can be.

It wasn't a waste of time since it wasn't horrible it was just everything we've already seen with annoying tropes and predictable script.

Finally a good horror comedy!
19 October 2021
First one since Satanic Panic and even better than that! It's horror, action packed and funny when it should be.

It has what most of these "horror comedies" don't - interesting characters. Great casting and great acting aside from the male lead.

Not cringy, corny or cheesy, it delivers on a mature level. Some writers/directors should definitely take notes from this film.

My favorite horror-comedy and a movie I was glued to despite not being a huge fan of the sub-genre. 6.5/10.

Candidate for the worst movie of the year.

It's scary... for 7 year olds.. MAYBE
16 October 2021
Considering Don't Breathe and Escape Room sequels were much better than the original films I thought I'd give this one a shot as well. Huge mistake.

During the first movie I literally fell asleep, this sequel couldn't do that since I made sure to watch it right after waking up but damn, it made me nod off so, so many times.

Directing is bad just like in first one. Kids acting is bad, especially boys. Characters keep defying the laws of physics. You can't say "IT'S A MONSTER HORROR" as an excuse. This isn't X-Men. Tons of times human characters defied physical laws and the plot is tailored to be convenient for them.

No emotional connection to any of the characters whatsoever. They didn't even try to make it.

I understand that target audience is 8-14 year olds but come on, at least show some effort.

3/10 for one good scene in both films combined.

MUCH better than the first part
16 October 2021
Who would've thought the sequel of the movie I gave 1/10 (rightfully so) would end up getting a 7/10. So many different decisions have been made for this film.

Cringe was toned down from 100 to 5. First movie was insufferable due to cringy lines/characters. No such thing in this one.

Casting and characters - major improvement. Aside from the two actors from the first film, everyone else was very good in their roles. There wasn't a weak link and character arcs were decent.

Rachel is the real MVP.

Traps were much better and not convenient like in the first part. Everything was just on whole another level. Plot twist made it even better. I'm hoping for a third part now.

7/10 would watch again.

A typical Russian horror film
16 October 2021
It could've been packed into 85 minutes with the same exact result. Prolonged for no reason with a lot of fillers but that's very usual for Russian films, Sputnik was a better film than this one and it too had tons of unnecessary scenes.

Everything is grey. Literally. Cold and grey. I get the impression really, but there comes a point where you should implement something atmospheric (especially considering where it's all taking place) instead of everything being monotonous.

Some actors were good some were bad, it was a mix really. Plot didn't have holes despite lacking momentum.

Emotional scenes built up by first hour of the movie were there, it clicked well just like in Sputnik. Ending was good.

If it was 30 min shorter it would've been rated higher, have to go with 5/10.

Unfortunate tale to many women during the Dark Ages
15 October 2021
A story that happened to countless women branded as witches for various idiotic reasons. Plot is straightforward, it's realistic, torture scenes are cut so you don't have to watch women getting tormented on various devices.

Good casting and convincing acting. It felt like it could've been a bit more atmospheric in a dark way, however the director didn't take that route. Wasn't a boring film but wasn't one that will be talked about for ages either. More focus should've been put into agony those falsely accused has to endure (not by gory scenes but by atmosphere/dialogue) instead of leaving it kinda half empty.

The ending was satisfying but I walked away feeling like something's missing. 6/10.

Low budget indie slasher done well
15 October 2021
A true slasher we all enjoy. There wasn't that much of a plot but does it really matter when it's a blood and violence through and through?

Characters are depicted well, there is a story and nonstop slasher action for the entire duration of the film.

Actors did a good job. Directed great. Not much to say except, if you're a slasher fan, DEFINITELY gives this a watch.

Interesting take on revenge genre
15 October 2021
First of all, this movie definitely isn't 1/10 like some reviews say. It isn't 10/10 either, but lets not pretend it was bad. It was directed very well for a low budget horror and I have to give major props for this.

There were obviously some flaws which sadly you can't compensate for with good writing when you have limited budget but overall, it was a solid plot and I didn't lose any interest while watching.

The film is twisted in so many ways, I found it original to be honest. Not your typical revenge horror.

Won't be talking much about the cast since I'm well aware of the budget restrictions.

There were missed opportunities but not due to directors/writers mistake. I hope to see more movies from you. 4.5/10.

One of the stupidest films I've ever seen
14 October 2021
It doesn't even have one funny line/scene in the entire movie. Second act is non existent. Characters are bad, acting is bad. Everything is bad aside from visuals.

They really lure you in with those "top 10/20/50 horror movies of /insert year/" so you feel like you might miss out on something and it ends up like this. Not the first time and certainly not last.

Main character is obnoxious, super irritant and hella annoying. No pity party made me connect with him.

Tuned out completely during the last 20 minutes waiting for this to end ASAP while browsing stuff on my phone. If there ever was a true 1/10 this is it.

Better one in anthology horror sub-genre
14 October 2021
Most of horror anthologies turn out awful with average 3/10 quality. Stories are usually bad and there's one or two tops that are decent. This one's different.

Aside from the first story, all others are great, especially the last one which made me up the rating from 6 to 7. It's gritty, dark, ominous and eccentric.

Clancy Brown and Hannah R. Loyd make a stark contrast in characters which is absolutely phenomenal. It wasn't a surprise to me that Clancy acted great but I've seen Hannah's resume 5 minutes ago and it blows my mind how she hasn't starred in more movies/series. Great performance.

Film is also very atmospheric and has a gothic vibe to it, cinematography is pretty good, colors are spot on.

Even if you aren't a fan of anthologies, you're gonna like this one. 7/10.

Shouldn't have secrets in a relationship
14 October 2021
For all those negative reviews because "I didn't understand story, it was pointless" etc. I don't even know what to say. You need average IQ and maturity to be able to comprehend what's going on, it really isn't that complicated.

Plot is great. It is somewhat slow at the beginning but those "irrelevant" small details play part in the third act. As movie progresses it gets more and more interesting and the film devours you.

I will say though, it uses a couple of tropes, not just one or two. Most things are predictable, some aren't, and those that aren't make this movie good because it catches you off guard.

Dark and witty, this film demonstrates that everything has a consequence. 7/10.

Original in its sub-genre
13 October 2021
Original concept decently performed. It was more or less what I expected based on the description with a slightly better execution. Action packed second half of the movie.

Plot is generally good but it has a couple holes which take away realism from it. A lot of fillers too so if that's something you struggle with, 2 hours might be too much for this kind of film. Some scenes were unnecessary, first half was dragged out a bit. I'm glad we saw background however.

It really is scary at some points. Gory, gnarly and vicious - things we like in horror. Fights were good and most of the cast did their parts very well.

I'm sorry but the kid just didn't act well and that's what brought this movie down singlehandedly. Didn't show emotions right(or any), fell out of important scenes and most importantly, script bent the rules for the kid. Without the kid present this could've been a classic, it wasn't necessary AT ALL to have him in the film.

Would I watch it again? Maybe. Was a fun experience despite obvious flaws. 6/10.
