Dead Like Me (2003)
Shotimes greatest show...EVER
Dead Like Me was one of the greatest shows on TV when it was on. It was well acted, well written and very funny. Between the amusing deaths and witty writing this show was, in my opinion, flawless. It is a show worth checking out. Ellen Muth and Callum Blue prove to be excellent actors coming in as virtual unknowns. Mandy Patinkin and Jasmine Guy of course bring down the house whenever their on screen, never leaving a dull moment. And I dare not forget Laura Harris or Cynthia Stevenson who make the show just that much more entertaining. But i definitely thing Ellen Muth and Callum Blue deserve oh so much more work! And now, For fear of making myself look a fool, which i'm sure i've done already I'll end now by just saying that it is an excellent show that deserved more air time but was, like so many great shows, taken before its time.
The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Not the original
This movie paled in comparison to the original. I love all three of the primary actors in this movie and felt they did an excellent job, but i just don't think this film works in modern society. What was great about the original is that it played on this countries fear of Communism and also mocked Mcarthyism (spelled incorrectly i know). It actually had something behind it where as this version had nothing behind it, as far as i could see. Major characters, scenes and relationships were taken out and changed. >From senator iselan to Shaw's relationship with Jocyln (apologies for all of the incorrect spelling). I was disappointed at how poor this remake was. I wasn't expecting much, but i was expecting it to be a decent something like the original (something much better than the stepford wives remake). This movie just had no relevance in todays society and when you already know the twists and turns there really isn't much of a reason to watch other than seeing some good acting. And for this movie, that barely carries it.
Scorched (2003)
Not so bad
I picked this movie off the shelf at random and figured, the cast wasn't so bad (judging from the cover) and i had time to spare so why not. When i saw some of the cast not listed on the box i was even more impressed. Anyway, as the movie went on i enjoyed it more and more. I don't think I would ever buy it, maybe not even bother to watch it again, but i am glad i watched it. It was amusing and kept me entertained (something a movie should do). Sure the plot had been done before, and it wasn't super original. But as far as i was concerned it was a solid movie. No slow points, no terrible writing, no stupid special effects. It just wrapped itself up into a convenient little ball and... i got nothing.
Point is, if you are ever looking for a good movie that isn't heavy on the morals and you don't have to concentrate to hard to watch, this is the movie. A good laugh and not a waste of time.
Josie and the Pussycats (2001)
Loved it
I'm 20 years old, I'm a dude and I've seen this movie at least 10 times. It isn't because I think the women are hot... well i do, and i love parker posey, but that is not the primary reason as to why i watch this movie so often. I think that the script is just brilliant. I love how well they played on the corporate tie-ins (from which they received little money if any). I remember seeing trailers for this movie and thinking, "oh god some crappy sell out teen movie". Then when my sister was watching it one time I heard "Backdoor Lover" and couldn't stop laughing at how great it was that they got that song in what could be called a kids movie. There were so many little things that made the movie brilliant. I'm not saying that any of the three lead actresses are the best of actors, they aren't by far... maybe rosario dawson, but the other two.... eh. What makes this movie a 10 is Parker Posey and Alan Cumming. They are brilliant. Not one un-funny line in the whole damn thing. The Carson daily cameo is pretty funny, primarily because of the little jokes made between him and tara reid (movie was made while they were engaged), and then watching it knowing that whole thing is over. Seth green, donald faison, brecken meyer and that other guy are nothing short of brilliant! The scenes they are in and even the one in the end that the three names aren't in, are hilarious. This is the perfect attack on pop culture. It hits every mark dead on and digs its teeth in.
I can understand how someone wouldn't like it. Bad acting, mediocre script ( to most people) dumb idea. And it will be dated in about... a year. but if you remember the time when it was made, the boy bands the girl singers, all that jazz then you will at least get a few laughs. If not from the script then at least from the monkey.
and check out the commentary, its interesting.
i am a sad, sad man
Medea (1969)
terrible all around
This movie has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Some people i guess would call it excellent for its "artsiness"... but as far as i could tell it was poorly filmed, poorly edited, terribly dubbed and poorly acted. It just didn't find any redeaming factors about it... other then the two main actors who play Jason and Medea made no other movies. Terrible.
The Psychic (1968)
Best of the worst movies EVER
First off i'd like to say that none of these women were attractive. And that lesbian scene... it looked like a first kiss between middle schoolers. Anyway This movie is undoubtedly one of the worst movies ever made. The play is loose (if that) the characters are boring, the script is terrible and the cover of the box lies. Dick Genola proves why this is his only movie. Some of the lines though are truly priceless. One line being "You're not a cadever yourself" who uses that to get the girl? I have no idea. Basically all of his pick up lines are terrible. There really is no end. You don't find out if his daughter is dead or even if hiss psychic powers go away. In fact the last 2 or 3 minutes are just what seem to be extra footage and "bloopers" I think they are meant to be a flashback but serve no purpose. There are no credits and it just kind of stops. Although the end song is quite amusing. This is the perfect movie to watch with friends. The lines are quotable and the plot is horrific. just remember that falling off a ladder and having the hammer land in you head doesnt give you psychic powers. i give it a 10.
