Beautiful, if looked at in the right way.
27 December 2004
Now before i begin, i must remind you all of something that it seems some of my fellow reviewers seem to have not taken into account. This movie is a musical, based on the original works of Charles Dickens. It is not a Christmas Carol, whatever it says in the title. If you are going to complain about this not being a Christmas carol, then you should go and complain on the Oliver and Co board for turning oliver twist into a cat...

Firstly, the acting. I think it was preety obvious that a lot of the actors were singers and dancers. Some may have had a little acting training, but not much. Kelsey Grammar as always was great. And getting to show his talent as a singer once again, as well as his fantastic acting skills. The rest of the cast was average. The child actors were wooden at best, since they have probably just been found in a drama school in a little village in wales...

The basic story is kept. Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser, is awoken every hour for the first 3 hours on Christmas day and taken by a spirit to see how Christmas is for other people. Poor People and Rich. There are additions which i think work very well.

The music, as this is a musical, is sometimes out of place. There are maybe 3 songs which are really good, and the are preety random. Sometimes it seems like the writer tried to rhyme just for the sake of rhyming and to be honest, it stands out a mile and it doesn't sound good.

So, my conclusion? For a Christmas film its very good, as long as you forget the work on which it is based. And Because Kelsey Grammar is in it, i'm gonna give it an average...

The League of Gentlemen (1999–2017)
Hello Dave
20 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
This show is probably one of the best comedies of the last 5 years. Its not in the same league as Monty Python, but it kicks Little Britain and Bo'selecta in the groin and steals there wives.

Anyhew. The league of gentlemen is set in a town called Royston Vasey (Familiar to Chubby Brown fans?). The show follows the towns many strange and sometimes scary townsfolk. There's Pauline. An evil restart officer with a pen addiction. Edward and Tubbs. Edward is a mass murderer and Tubbs is simply a mass. And many Many more.

While a lot of this seems to be stupid, sometimes immature jokes, scratch the surface and you find literally hundreds of intelligent jokes.

It is a sketch show, with regular characters returning each week. I've not see series three, but series one and two had little story line.

I give this 9 out of 10, just because it stands out in these years of rare comedy gems...

a great film...
17 November 2004
I'd be the first to admit that, at times, this had a preety corny storyline. Some of the jokes are predictable, and some scenes seem longer then they had to be.

But, taking these minor points away, you have a great film.

The acting from the adult cast was acceptable (except from kelsey grammar, who, as in all his roles, played it perfectly). The acting from the child cast was remarkable. I could only name you one GOOD child star (And i'm definitely not talking about Mary Kate or Ashley...) but after watching this, i may have to change my outlook that all child screen actors are hopeless.

This is a great film...there are no explosions, hardly any swearing, and the death scene was strangely cut out...so you can see why this may not have been well received. This isn't a life altering film, but i like it anyway...

Animal Farm (1999 TV Movie)
The actors alone are worth the watch
10 August 2004
I read through some of the other reviews for this and realized it isn't much liked by fans of the books. It is to these people that i ask this, how do you create a film about communism without insulting someone? especially now? I know this isn't a very good defence, but no TV station is going to show somethin thats likely to cost them money.

Communism is no happy topic, it recked lives and split families...but hey...why not bring all that up again. If this does seem light hearted against the book, then ask yourselves why. This isn't a soap with bad acting by just-out-of-college actors type thing. If communism must be used (like it was), even by animals, then it must be done well. And it was. So what if it didn't follow the book? Books are usually better then films, but i doubt many people mentioned that on the lord of the rings boards.

This film was good, not brilliant, but its worth a watch just for the list of names. Kelsey Grammar being a personal favourite of mine. Pete Poselthwaite also very good, along with patrick Stuart and Ian Holm.

I suggest anyone who needs a good, cheap film gets this and watches it, because it'll be well worth it. Its different from the book, but so many things are when they are televised, made into a movie/game.

So if you have read the book, watch this as something separate, and don't judge it so harshly.

Since i haven't read the book i can't comment on the change of the ending, but that was probably for the best. After all, communism is no longer such a big problem as it was years ago, and making out like it is, won't help the story much...

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983–2004)
The best Thing on tv? WHY AYE!!!
8 May 2004
Stick your Bo'selecta and your little britain where the sun don't shine. Aufpet is a great mix of drama and comedy (black & white humour).

Seris 1 was brilliant. Following the 'maginificent 7' (Tim Healy, Jimmy Nail, Kevin Whately, Pat Roach, Gary Holton, Christopher fairbank and Timothy spall) as they move to germany for 6 months to get away from england, where they are unemployed.

Seris two reunites the magnificent 7 as they travel across england until they eventually get to spain

Seris 3 introduced a new main character due to Gary Holtons untimely (and mysterious) death. Wyman is waynes son. This seris is probably the weakest of the 4.

Seris 4 was great. All the characters back up to the standards we expect from them and a great story line.

All in all a great seris. This is something which will never die, will you be watching Bo'selecta in 20 years? I doubt it!! I know i'll be watching Aufpet (unless the discs break or something....god help me if they do...)
