The Last Duel (2021)
WALKED OUT.
Only thing worse than presenting Adam Driver as an irresistibly handsome man were the ridiculous haircuts on Ben & Matt. Obvious "mystery" ,ridiculous story.
Lily (2019)
Loved this profile of a pioneering comic artist.
Fascinating story of holocaust survivor, pioneering female comic book artist and survivor.
Mostly interviews in her home showing off her prized artworks, and telling her life story. And it's a great one!.
Her son was at the showing, still kicking myself for not asking where I could write her a fan letter :-(
Child's Play (2019)
Aubrey probably added two stars
I love the evilhag so I'm a bit biased. Took a bit to get used to the new Chucky look. Had no clue who the voice was! Pretty much exactly what you'd expect. If you're not going to enjoy a Chucky movie why go?
Some quality kills, a few big laughs.
Anna (2019)
La Femme Nikita updated.
Don't get the bad reviews. Extremely beautiful lead, some crazed action scenes and a plot that doesn't insult you intelligence like most American summer junk.
The Lobster (2015)
Can you spoil something so awful? *spoilers*
**** spoilers**** Where to start with this pathetic combination of Von Trier and Wes Anderson. Pointless, juvenile, pointlessly cruel and just DUMB. Moronic premise that the unattached are forced to find mates or be turned into a lower species? Perfect matches are only found with similar weakness? A limp or bad eyes? Gaping plot holes, like asking which partner would be better off alone when the whole point of the film is that they CAN'T be left alone? Would be forced to re-couple or die. the mystery ending that's there why? The moronic idea that both partners being blind would somehow not end them both? They could only be together if they both shared blindness? That they would openly make out in the home of the leader's parents? I am AMAZED that this turd has a 7 rating. I could go on for about the length of the film as to why you shouldn't waste your time.
Monster Samurai (2005)
*Sort of spoiler*, excellent animation!
Nice little film about an evil samurai who's sent to earth as an ogre to save lives without killing to get back his human form. meets a small boy getting chased by some really cool little ninjas and they become traveling companions. SUPER cool aliens too! Ends a little too quickly just as the real action starts. Kid friendly, brilliantly animated. Definitely a tease for hopefully something more feature length! Found it on a bonus disk for one of the Stash animation compilations. If you're a fan of animation it's a series of over 60 dvds with dozens of films, commercials, demo tapes, music videos, etc. This disk also had a cool animated phone ad by Takeshi Miike.
Love & Other Drugs (2010)
Great romance, great comedy, great cans on Anne
Saw a preview tonight. Really, really good. Plenty of nudity from the leads....always thought of Anne as too skinny, but yowza! Quite the tear-jerker, yet finds time to be charming and funny. Anne Hathaway was totally off my radar but I was totally in love from the 1st wild sex scene. Lots of Jake whoring around too. The brother was a poor man's Jonah Hill, but he was quite entertaining in the end. Some pretty gross moments, especially one involving a sex video but it really made me laugh. Judy Greer of Arrested Development was cool in a small role as a naughty nurse. Story of a sales rep for Viagra who falls for a beautiful artist with (no spoiler here). Well paced, well acted and well written.
Role Models (2008)
Foul mouthed kid's movie
Saw a preview for this last weekend. It's now called "The Mentors". 2 guys, Rudd & Scott are partyiers working for a energy drink company who have some troubles with drinkin & end up having to mentor a couple of kids as punishment.
Kind of split personality, it's a sweet kids movie, but really dirty at times. McLovin is good, not quite as cool as superbad. Scott is great, Rudd's kinda playin the same role again.
*spoiler part* There's a lot of Kiss references in the movie, the finale especially. Might have enjoyed it more if I was a Kiss fan I guess.
It's All About Love (2003)
What a STUPIIIIDDDDDDD movie! !!!!spoilers!!!!! but can't spoil this
I can't begin to detail how bad this movie is. Claire Danes give several bad performances in the same film! Not only is her main character supposed to be Russian, but her many "clones" are too. Too bad she keeps forgetting to use the accent. Joaquin plays a guy trying to get a divorce from his figure skating wife. Dark forces surround her in the form of some kinda Russian mob. Fearing her aging they create doubles for her. If this sounds stupid to you, just watch the climactic scene where they're all skating around and being shot one-by-one. I wondered why this didn't come out last year, no more! Because it's AWFUL!
Ika resuraa (2004)
Goofy, silly & fun !
Totally wacky pro-wrestling/sci-fi spoof. Giant squid crashes championship match & steals title belt.
Just too goofy, it's simply silly enough to keep you giggling till the end.
The low-tech costumes are perfect for the tone of the movie. Excellent performances by the human cast, well sorta. The fight scenes are hilarious, the squid is joined by an octopus & a Squilla(some kinda giant shrimp)... again the goofy costumes work great here, as wel as in in the scenes of sunsets and romance ;-) Then when it wasn't getting weird enough, there's an appearance by a boy-band.
Divorcing Jack (1998)
Excellent stuff
Started as a comedy, turned real dark. I thought this was an excellent film i'd never heard of. Of course US distributors are always scared of thick accents, that's why so few of us have seen the great Twin Town. David Thewlis was outstanding, very funny & believeably serious when things went dark.
Kimi ga wakamono nara (1970)
Very unremarkable...spoilers, kinda
Group of guys grow up together, go different ways...couple go bad, couple buy a truck. Act like it's the greatest thing in the world until the end when one decides he needs a new start. The big conflict was when they scratched the truck...I just didn't get it. Other than the fact that the director went on to do Battle Royale I can't think of any reason to see this. Ending made no sense to me at all.
