I was very much looking forward to a story of magical proportions. The first half of the movie had me captivated with the stories that the Djinn share about his past lives and the tragedies that trapped him in the bottles over time.

They were rich stories full of drama, intrigue and deep emotions. But there was where the interest dropped for me. I found the second half of the movie very disjointed.

She made such a sudden turn from " I don't trust you I don't want to make any wishes" to wishing for his love for her. From that point on the movie seemed to jump and leap from point to point.

And in the end it was a disappointing ending and left me feeling quite flat.

There were definitely deep moments in the first half of the movie with some really interesting ideas and concepts and reflections on life but the second half just disconnected from all the rhythm and flow from the first half.

I'm quite surprised by some of the high reviews I read here. The two children I went to this movie with were as equally disturbed as I was by the constant amount of verbal abuse as well as physical abuse. It was nothing like the book and nothing like the original movie.

The most disturbing part, before we walked out of the movie theater, was when the headmistress swung a little girl around by her braids and flung her over the fence like the Olympic hammer throw she was famous for. Then she asked if someone could check if the child was alive and showed very strong disappointment that she was.

There were other dark parts of the story which I will not go into but suffice it to say this should have a stronger rating than PG as I was not the only one who walked out of the theater with my children.
