Tiku weds Sheru (2023)
Bawasir!
Hard to think that once upon a time, Nawazuddin Siddiquis name was taken in the same breath with the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, KK Menonn Pankaj Tripathi etc.
He's been doing some very poor movies lately either for money or for some unknown reason.
Coming to this movie, the story is not even basic. It's like the writer was high while writing this. The acting is below par.
Overall very poorly written and executed. The script has no direction.
Don't waste your time on this garbage. Going to a cafe, sipping on coffee and wasting 2 hrs watching reels on Instagram would be a better use of time than watching this garbage presented as a movie.
Nazar Andaaz (2022)
THIS IS CINEMA!
What is a good movie suppose to do?
A good movie is suppose to inspire you, bring up emotions that you never thought you had, make you laugh, make you cry, make you think, make you feel, leave an impression that stays with you even after the end credits role.. and this movie does all of that!
What a beautiful movie!
Kumud Mishra is brilliant and other hold their part well. The scene and the chemistry between Kumud Mishra and Rajeshwari Sachdev is heart warming.
In a time where a family movies are full of vulgarity and sexual obsession, here comes a movie that is truly a family movie in all sense.
Had this movie had a A list cast, the movie lovers would have been raving about this flick.
It's a great watch!
Anek (2022)
Anek.. a must watch movie for the message.
Let me start by mentioning don't trust 99% of the 1* rating. By now we all know there's a group with a specific mindset who only gives 1* or 10* based on their political belief.
The story is fictional but the message is not.
We live in a country that's divided in every possible way. Based on religion, based on cast, based on ethnicity and even based on location.
The popular opinion seems to be that the movie justifies terrorism and violence whereas the message in the movie is exactly the opposite.
Peace is not achieved on a document. It is acheived by people. Control is when you shake hands with the strongest person but peace is when you take everyone along.
Let's not pretend that NE indians are not marginalized and are not subjected to racism. It's a very real issue that has always taken a backseat.
All in all, the direction and the story line could have been a tad better but it's a very intriguing movie and every mature Indian must watch it at least once.
Heropanti 2 (2022)
Terrible Movie.
The movie has nothing going for it.
I have no idea how an actor like Nawazuddin opted to do this movie.
Ahmed Khans direction is directionless.
There's no flow to the storytelling and the whole movie seems forced and the songs will only remind you of 80s and 90s where there were songs for no reason.
The special effects are done by a 12 year old.
Better to avoid and sleep off if you have nothing to do.
Badhaai Do (2022)
They just overdid it.
The movie attempts to send a message but gets to that point only in the last 15 mins or so. The movie could easily have been cut down by 45 mins to an hour and still have the same effect. The makers seemed to have stretched it with sole objective of making it entertaining which feels forced.
Acting is decent but it's confusing to gauge the charcter of Rajkumar Rao who initially is sort of normal then turns in to an MCP and then again to normal.
All in all it's forced but watchable if you have nothing else to do.
Last Christmas (2019)
Beautiful movie.
I must say i wasn't expecting much and found randomly scrolling through Netflix.
Watched it for the cast and boy did I love it.
The movie would have been a wonderful watch even if it didn't revolve around the Christmas theme.
Sarpatta Parambarai (2021)
Watchable but too lengthy
2 Indian movies (Toofan and Sarpatta Parambarai) based on boxing, released in a span of a week and both share a number of similarities.
Both the movies are nearly 3 hrs long (unnecessarily). The essence or the plot of both movies is more or less the same. The rise, the fall and the redemption of the protagonist. Between the fall and redemption, the protagonists in both the movies gets awfully out of shape and gets body shamed on the way to glory.
Sticking to Sarpatta Parambarai, the movie would connect well emotionally with the audience as it portrays and captures most of the emotional and cultural aspects well.
However, technically, considering this is a sports based movie, it's weak.
The boxing skills of Arya showcased in the movie is average at best. The skills of his opponents is well below average. The physique of most of the opponents, including that of the main opponent, is weak and is not in line with a proper athlete.
The boxing coaching is awful and has nothing to add to the protagonists skills during training or during matches.
Acting wise, Arya holds the screen well. Dushara portrays her part perfectly. All the supporting cast plays their parts well.
The first 90 minutes of the movie is breezes through and enjoyable to watch but then the next 90 sorts of drags it.
If you have the time and don't mind nitpicking faults in the sporting sequence, watch it.
If you want to watch movie purely for it's drama, watch it.
You want miss much if you decide to skip it.
Skater Girl (2021)
Inspirational to say the least.
The movie has a beautiful flow to it and a little dramatic towards the end. That shouldn't take away from the message that this movie is trying to convey.
Dream and anything is possible!
It's really sad to see some people slating the movie for showing Indian villages in bad light but I don't think it has at all. The situation in villages in reality would be much worse than this. Challenges are tackled pretty smoothly in the movie whicn in reality wouldn't be.
We Indians should stop being pretentious and being too sensitive and own up to it where necessary.
Well done to the makers of the movie.
Material (2012)
What a little gem!
I didn't expect much from this movie, but what a treat it turned out to be.
I didn't even realize it was a South African movie until quarter way.
Absolute gem. Connects very well to the audience through various emotions and at so many levels.
People in Asia would specially connect well to this movie which is a treat.
If you haven't watched this yet, do watch it.
The Nun (2018)
The Nun fails miserably at keeping the audience engaged.
*SPOILER ALERT*
So this movie is a part of Conjuring franchise. Hence, I went in to the theatre with very high expectations. What followed was a broken, dull, boring, slow and scareless 90 odd minutes.
You would never imagine a theatre full of people laughing at the climax of a horror movie. that's what exactly happened with The Nun. Some 10 minutes remaining in the movie and Frenchie cracks a joke and the whole theatre bursts out with laughter! amazing!
It's like the writers had no idea what they wanted out of the movie. They clearly didn't want to scare people.
All in all, the movie is not worth watching in the theatre.
Kidnap (2017)
Solid, very solid
A nice little thriller packed in to less than 90 mins. Halle Berry is solid in her role. It's all Halle Berry in the movie. She carries out her part to perfection. Not too many dialogues, not too much beating around the bush. The movie is to the point and gets on with it at good pace.
A hell lot better than Transformers: The last Knight which I watched the same day.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Worse Transformers movie
Michael Bay has lost his way. This is by far the worse Transformers movie.
Optimus prime, Anthony Hopkins except for his dialogue delivery) and the little girl are wasted in the movie.
complicated plot, no direction to the script and unfunny attempts at humor are just some of the faults of the movie.
Avoid going to the theater, avoid watching it on DVD, avoid watching it anywhere. Complete waste of time!
