Never Forget
24 September 2023
This film and the performances were stunning beyond words. To deal with the injustice that was handed out in these days is commendable. Some people here complain about no fun and in those days, such nonsense. I was born in 1960 and remember the injustice still being handed out in the 1980s when I protested against Thatcher. The young gays today, in some countries, have it easy thanks to older guys who fought for their rights. This brave film had me gripped from the the beginning and the ensemble give tremendous performances especially Frank Rogowski. The difficulty they had having to hide their feelings, the brief tender moments they had together were both shown so well. Paragraph 175 was evil beyond words. Films such as these should help people never forget that these days of great injustice in Europe were only 70 years ago. By not forgetting, we stay strong. I hope many men watch this great movie.

The second tasty Tapa, now please a full course
18 June 2023
I think its time ´A Strange Way of Life´, deserves a second review. I first saw an Almodovar film when I lived in Berlin in the 90s. I have watched the majority of his movies. And as all people, he had his ups and downs. I had always dreamt of him making an English language Movie and, ironically, my life brought me to Madrid - the centre of Almodovar´s world. It is true he doesn´t speak a very good English, which is disappointing after 30 plus years of making movies and there is an abundance of English Teachers in Madrid, I know as I am one of them! In fact he used to live above a language school. Still, eventually he released the 30 minute ´The Human Voice´, with the delicious Tilda Swinton, being as marvelous as ever. It had the style of his Madrid films. Then, we heard rumours of a full length movie with Cate Blanchett, dreamy.......but this was postponed and in the meantime, Pedro decided to create this gay western vignette ´Strange Way of Life´, starring two very talented and attractive leading actors. It is short and sweet and ends just as you are really getting into it. Its style is more TV series than theatrically camp. Some people have said there is no chemistry between the 2 actors, I beg to differ. One review said there were bums everywhere, there is in fact just one. The story, though it will not change the world and is not deeply profound, is simple, adequate storytelling for the 30 minutes. It makes sense. The flashback scene is fine. The pace was good, the dialogue simple but effective. Pascal and Hawke were convincing. It was a very pleasant way to spend 30 minutes. I do hope that Mr Almodovar will soon release a full length movie in English. We have had the tapas, now its time for a main course.

Superb Film, dealing with a complicated issue
30 April 2023
Before I say something about the film I must comment on the dreadful use of the English language, especially the spelling by the majority of the bad reviewers, it is no a great surprise that they had problems understanding the film and its nuances. I had a long and complicated love story with an illegal Lebanese man in Madrid. His situation was very complicated and he, like the Syrian, was also bisexual. And no i was not a Sugar Daddy. If you have the money, you buy your friend presents. Its normal. Many of the East European and Arabian countries treat LGBT dreadfully. The film started slowly, but it became more interesting as it developed and it had a positive ending and not the, so often, bleak and dismal end that many Gay movies are prone to having.. Also, it is obvious that a Lithuanian and Syrian man would have to speak in English in order to communicate. I thought the two actors did very well and held their own. I can only recommend the film.

Very good and true to life in Berlin.
20 November 2022
Some people seem to think the ages are wrong but that is complete nonsense in my opinion. They are around 30, and the actors have the correct age in real life. They are studying, going through changes, having first children, changing jobs, going out a lot, sharing flats....all common things to do when you are 30 in Berlin. Its also not listed as a comedy but a dramady. I laughed quite a few times especially in the beach episode. If you want to know how things are in an affordable, fun city then watch the show. I lived 16 years in Berlin between the ages of 28 and 44. Often German series can be over acted but I thought this was kept in line. I had fun.

Really Enjoyable
21 November 2021
I really enjoyed this movie and the places they visited, the witty one liners exchanged (though mainly from the German character) and the twists and turns their road trip goes through. Both are attractive men in their own way and they are really nice to watch together. The romance is cute and not over sweet and their accents have a lot of charm to them. It is certainly one of the best gay movies I have watched in recent years and hope to see the two actors again.

Unusual road movie based on a romantic recreation
20 March 2021
Definitely a strange, but well scripted story of a man trying to recreate his days with an ex love. Beautifully played by the two leading actors, as well as the general ensemble. The sex scenes though suggestive are not explicit which was disappointing given the story line. But the interaction between the characters and the role playing and how the emotions changed kept me gripped.. Very interesting and recommended.

People are weird
15 June 2019
This movie was great and is far better than the last one. So much backlash and hate towards the X-Men films. Superb acting as always, good effects, the first half has a good human story as always with the X-Men. The last scene is delicious. I was thoroughly entertained.

Excellent

I have watched a few documentaries about Callas over the years and this one still had many surprises in store for me. I thought the interviews and footage used were excellent. I had never seen her speak so much and, at times, lucidly about her life. You have the success and the solitude, the art and the love. There are also some exquisite arias. It is very moving, if you look carefully behind the facade.

A must for people who like the unusual
2 October 2016
I just had the great pleasure to watch this film in Madrid. I had no idea what to expect. The film is both beautiful and poetic and gives its main character the stage. Oleg Karavaychuk is a rare character, an eccentric in all the best forms possible. The film moves from monologues to piano pieces and captures a bizarre world inhabited by one man. There are glimpses of a luxurious past now lost to ruin and memories. Andres Duque, the director, treats everything with a great sensitivity and respect. The combination of the two artists is exquisite. This is not mainstream but a must for art lovers and people who like to take a trip into a strange and fascinating world.

Overall, an excellent film with some fine acting.
5 February 2016
I and a friend watched this movie on a late Friday night in Madrid, Spain. I must say that usually boxing movies bore me to death but my flat mate likes action movies so we settled for this on the internet, and yes surprisingly I found this movie well paced and convincing and very well scripted and acted. That the lead actor also wrote and directed the movie is very commendable. It was a job very well done. The performances of Duncan and Merkerson were exceptional. So, in all, we two men in Madrid on a late Friday night really enjoyed this boxing movie set in the Bronx as we felt it was made with feeling and sensitivity. It will definitely keep my eyes open for Kent Morgans future works.

Skyfall (2012)
10/10
Skyfall will be considered one of the best Bond films.
10 November 2012
Skyfall is Bond at his best and will later be rated as one of the top films. Superb script, Great direction and excellent performances. Daniel Craig is an excellent accomplished, modern day Bond. He is what Bond needed. Rugged and sophisticated and a real person. The film has no silly over-the-top gadgets, its back to basics and the film is reminiscent of the great Terence Young Bonds. In the early Bonds, he had no fancy gadgets. I liked Connery and Craig is equal to him. The story is excellent and Bardem is sublime as the crazy baddie. It is also nice to see some of the action take place in Great Britain. Go and enjoy. People should stop hugging the past and move on. The old films were great but this release is really excellent!
