The Finest Hour (1991)
Oh, this is serious 😳
I thought for sure this was a spoof of late 80s military movies. There fact that someone wrote this to be a serious drama really blew my mind. It reminded me of The Room with heavy weaponry.
London Has Fallen (2016)
Expectations have fallen.
Much like it's predecessor, London Has Fallen wanders down the well worn path of empty headed explosion porn. The dialogue is ridiculously simplistic and does not suit a film filled with actors who are actually decent in the rest of their work.
A Christmas in Tennessee (2018)
Formulaic, Soft, and Pointless
Did you see that Lifetime/Hallmark movie with the C list 90s actress and the generic white guy? You know, the one where they have different agendas initially and then one overcomes their superficial hang ups to forge a lasting relationship.
Seriously, if you've seen one of these vacuous wastes of time, you've seen them all.
Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005)
Typical Tyler Perry
Tyler Perry hates women. Hear me out. This film follows Mr. Perry's standard form. A "fallen" woman (or in this case women) encounter hard times and can only be saved by the actions of pious men. Through the course of their ordeal, these female characters never truly grow as they jump from one source of dependency to another. This is less a compelling story than it is a Sunday school morality play where the woman is automatically the sinner. If you really think about it, what else is Medea but a sick vehicle for Tyler Perry to show women "how it's done". Misogyny wrapped up and presented as ignorant good intentions.
