Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Wait... This is actually really good
Okay... So I loved the original Squid Games. I thought the concept was brilliant and it was something completely original we haven't seen before.
When Netflix first announced they were doing a reality version of Squid Games I wasn't expecting much at all.
Also, the fact Mr Beast had already completely recreated Squid Games had me even less interested in this because we have already seen a real life version of the show.
This series took me by surprise at every turn. Yes they followed the main concept of Squid Games but it was so different in it's own right. The mini challenges, the backstabbing, the ruthlessness all came together so perfectly in my opinion that I had no idea who I was rooting for and who was going to be eliminated next.
Give it a watch and I'm sure you will enjoy it. Again, I was expecting this to be garbage and I am so pleasantly surprised.
#JusticeFor302.
Matt Rife: Natural Selection (2023)
I like Matt Rife but....
This unfortunately fell short with me. I have been a fan on Matt Rife's for a while now but unfortunately seeing this special turned out to be not special at all.
Matt Rife has made a real name for himself via social media and his crowd work which is phenomenal and some of the best I have seen as of late.
In this special it's focussed on his actual set and not his crowd work as obviously crowd work completely differs from show to show but your general set does not.
At the end of this special you see quick clips of Matt Rife doing his crowd work after his set has finished and in those short clips is where you can see the audience laughing the loudest.
We want to see you engaging with your audience.
All in all looking forward to seeing how Matt does progress as a comedian.
Untold: Jake Paul and the Problem Child (2023)
No matter what you think of Jake. This is great!
I first found out who Jake Paul was a couple of years ago through media articles bagging on the kid. I then got to see what they were bagging him for and I jumped on the I don't like this kid train as well.
Over the past 2ish years my view point on him has completely made a 180.
Just like in the doc. This man is a promoter and a bloody good one at that. The rest of the world are just pawns to his game.
This doc was able to highlight his path into the world of boxing and showcase that he isn't just a influencer kid doing this for views.
You can see he has a true passion for this sport and I respect the hell out of it.
When you have people like Mike Tyson in your corner praising you for "saving boxing" (I do think saving boxing is a bit of a stretch) you should listen.
Bums in seats is what Jake does.
Sadly, this doc will be rated poorly from the people who don't like Jake purely because he is such an easy guy to dislike and everything he touches people will disagree with.
Clear your mind, give it a watch, and enjoy the ride.
He is entertainment.
White Men Can't Jump (2023)
Exactly what you should expect
Don't watch this movie thinking you are about to watch a movie like Coach Carter, Remember the Titans, or The Blindside.
This was exactly how I pictured it to be - A quick and fun film about street basketball which dabbles in comedy, love and emotion. It touches on the pathway from high school basketball to the NBA and focuses on one little mistake can change everything.
Don't have Oscar nomination expectations and you'll enjoy the film!
It's also great to see Lance Reddick in new films and we need to appreciate every last one we will be able to watch.
I hope to see Jack Harlow in more films.
