A Dangerous Method (2011)
... all about paradigm changes.
The movie "a dark methods" offers very authentic game performance by keira knightley as Anna S. ,a change from the first-neurotic patient towards staff member C.G. Jung and later defender of Freuds psychology. Not only had their symptoms believable, her trembling and stuttering, but also the desire to achieve their self - and where would it better to find his development as a researcher of the unconscious, which is to become itself over time.
C.G. Jung on the other hand is playing a role in running the contrary: first as an almost arrogant doctor and authority that seem to understand his patients but by the times develops doubts in his own skills. This culminates until such time as he falls victim to the desires of his patient and her "dark desires" surrenders. Young throws all of his ideas and dogmas of psychoanalysis itself, and therefore falls deeper and deeper into his own unconscious world that needs bringing to the fore, which was to do this renowned analyst is not aware of.
Finally on this triad are missing the main character, around which all the doctrine of conscious and unconscious: Sigmund Freud - here played by Vigor Mortinson. Like the other two play along with Freud also goes through a transformation in the film - from research-based teacher back to the orthodox advocate a science that should make no more new discoveries, but only the captured defending. Comes as a friend orthodoxy advanced far is it to break with Jung: This looks to psychoanalysis Freud came to a point, realize that it no longer allows further developments. To whom does this break has now dealt a fatal blow, Jung or Freud is not apparent. Suffering at least do both at this break.
My rating is a result of this incredibly exciting and rarely probed, and not very convincingly last played Anna S, a very good 9/10. Jung was only played in deficit - it almost seemed as if young are so deep, as if he had forfeited his entire existence. Because of many described histories but this is not the case.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
..about a forbidden Love
At first i have to admit , I'm actually no friend of these new-gender-wave , swiping over to europe. But never the less : This is one of the best Movies I've seen in a long time, and sensitized me for homosexuality and their ban and exclusion from society.
Heath Ledger played his role overwhelming brilliant - all the time I had no doubt that his characteristic in reality would be the same as in the movie. His acting felt so real, this guy, who hasn't overcome his past and lives in seclusion - also mentally. Who fell in love but hast not yet decided if he'd fight society and their anti-homosexual tendencies and let go and feel with all thats inside of him or become conventional and denies his uprising feelings to another man.
How sad he died a couple of years after the movie. Heath Ledger - rest in peace, with this milestone of movie you became immortal!
Syriana (2005)
Criticizing economic Hollywood way
George Clooney, Matt Damon and many more famous and great actors collected for a Movie based on a plot that criticizes oil-industry and capitalism economic. For me it sounded like one of the best Movies in the century. That I got badly disappointed can be already seen at my voting 5/10 points.
What did go wrong? Like I already said: Great story, very complex and (for me of course) also very interesting. But why do you have to create such awfully complex and complicated relationships between the characters when the theme the Movies' about already that deep IS ? Mostly I disliked the whole story as it was messed up by the relations between these characters - I didn't understand who and why broke up with whom, what it all had to do with George Clooneys son, and the death of Matt Damons son - there natuarlly was a connection; the war in the family history of Emir and his two sons, the government of the united states, their favorite employees etc. pp. . As you can see I still don't get the whole situation.
But still 5 points for the well set plot.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
Not as good as Candy
Don't misunderstand me: Requiem for a Dream is quiet a good movie. Its fascinating, thrilling and entertaining, and actually it also makes me think about drugs and society. But well: Its about the movie and not about society and its drug scenes. What I was missing was these high emotional feelings I felt when watching Candy , starring Heath Ledger in one of his best roles. There are many common things you can compare - as for example the protagonist who has a girlfriend, who has to prostitute in the end for financing their drug addicition. But I missed the feeling, the sadness, these special kind of empathy which overcame me in Candy, it actually was intense enough to make me cry - an emotional feeling that can only be evoced by really good and realistic movies; some sort of comparison with the protagonist, as you are twitching in his role and feel his dilemma.
If you'd ask me: Its worth watching, but id prefer Candy, and suggest you Candy if you want to watch a Movie about Drug, Addiciton and tragic.
The Machinist (2004)
About hunting yourself
How do you find inner peace? Thats what the movie wants to show you; You can't have peace with yourself when you don't accept your past. Acceptance is essential for everything that is (present) and comes (future), otherwise it'll haunt you, until it gets your attention; or in cases like in the movie, where your pasts is a Trauma, inacceptance results in nightmare and false reality. You can't betray your own mind - it knows you best and also all your tricks. So happened in the movie: Just after realizing himself haunting him, he became aware or all the suppressed memories and accepted his past by confessing his murder. And right in this moment, after confessing and becoming peaceful with himself he finally found sleep again , after being awake for over a whole year.
Hunger (2008)
How far would you go for your ideals
I
Basically the movie is all about some prisoners that are imprisoned for political activities in the IRA movement. As they are not allowed to receive the status : political prisoners they do all they can to fight for their appreciation. Some of them even go on hunger-strike and let their life for their of a higher-goal.
II
pro:
I really liked the kind of story. During watching I questioned myself: How far would I go for my ideals, or actually, which ideals do I even have? These prisoners in the movie fight for their rights as political activists, their reach for freedom - great story, especially when you analyze yourself and also (as in this movie) the correctness of its historical background.
Which was also good done is the emotional context that reflects the spectator and provokes pity, anger, sadness and disgust - sometimes even at the same times. As the spectator you don't know which emotion you actually feel - or morally : you are allowed to feel; which side would you stand on; do you share the fight for a free Ireland and allow yourself sympathy , or do you support the rightness side of law and order and disgust these "illegal terrorists"?
So in this kind of movie you're not just a passive spectator who watches a movie and likes it or not, but someone who has actively to decide - and actually, its not about if you like this movie or not, but a decision for activeness or passivity in real life situations.
II
contra:
Movies life is about pictures. As I already said : A great plot. But (!) bad made. Actually I can't find any sympathy to the protagonist nor disgust or hate, just some kind of neutrality (maybe its what the movie intents), so that the plot, which is in my opinion based on its actors , didn't catch me very well; Its more of a documentary. i'd like to hear more dialogues about their feelings imprisoned, their inner fight about going on strike and maybe losing their life, their possibly feeling of loss, whatever - but you just have to assume what they _could_ feel, and in my opinion this is not enough. And the agony , the fight for his life, or letting it go, his hunger, i don't know, neither the actor nor the pictures convince me of any struggle the protagonist went trough.
IIII
summary:
Great plot, bad pictures. Bad played roll, emotionless actor, worse protagonist. So because of its interesting "story", its historical context, its activating of reflecting yourself ,I gonna vote 6 / 10 points.
In Time (2011)
One of the worst Movies I've seen in a long time...
Justin Timberlake as an actor - i knew it couldn't fit. This movie sucks , everything is made awefully mainstream and obvious. Time used as a symbol for money - oh lord, how "creative" (/ironie). Poor Boy who gets rich by accident and meets rich girl, but gets hunted by government. Seen this plot in different ways about 100 times - and still bores me like hell. But the worst situations are like these obvious dramatic scenes like the one where his mother can't pay the bus for meeting her son , so shes trying' by running to reach him but in the final seconds, when she almost reaches him (like 2 steps ahead) her time runs out and she dies in his arms. Justin crys like hell (yet another situation in which is shown that Justin is NO born actor!) and actually, in good movies these scenes activate the same emotions as seen in the film, i'd got this feeling to laugh. Laughing about this amateur-acting and obvious stupidity. Please, no more Timberlake Movies! My advice: Don't WATCH IT!
sincerely,
Kim
P.s. once again: Excuse my English
Memento (2000)
Not everything really is, as it looks like on first view...
Right after watching the Movie I wanted to give about 6 from 10 Points. It was much too confusing, not that thrilling (as you already knew who the "real" murder is) and you didn't get all the answers at the end. But somehow I made a review myself and thought about the whole plot. Actually, I had to admit: Its not I that got confused, Its Nolan that wanted me to get confused ! The whole thing is made up backwards to learn two things: First - imagine life as it could be, learn to love what you got - because somehow life can change and the only thing you rely on are pity emotions like revenge that provides your life with some sense. And second: Not everything really is, as it looks like on first view. You can adapt this interpretation for almost every situation of life - for example prejudices. And maybe you can also test yourself about how moral you are. Do YOU understand Leonards behavior if Teddy really tried to help him, by burning all the evidence for already killing the real murder but hunting instead Teddy as nothing in life worths than the sense for revenge? Or maybe do you even share this behavior? Or do YOU deny all of Leonards doing? Whatever it is, its all in your imagination.
Well: I have to admit, Nolan really got me. He caught me that much with his confuseness that I almost didn't get the message and messed up all the intentions. But as it made me think about life and esteem, what every good movie should get the viewer up to, I give it 9/10.
Very good Nolan!
Capitalism: A Love Story (2009)
Good beginning, but getting bad.
Well, the beginning was quite good, I liked the different kinds of Capitalism-critics , especially when different people where shown, who told from their personal experience when capitalism hit their life's and destroyed their futures. When people told that banks profits from deaths of employes, when shown the immorality of finance system, by stealing from those, who don't have anything, or cheating on government and whole society. Yes, that was really good done, congrats Mr. Moore. But then it became ridiculous - maybe some find it ironic or even funny when Moore enters an armored car and try's to get the back the money from banks, by just asking with a nice $- signed bag in his hands. I don't. It took all the seriousness the move made it worth looking. Finally I was upset of the Utopian view which he made that all may be end up well, by showing some rebellious Workers - No Mr. Moore - thats not enough. Finance system won't collapse because some thousands go on strike - it takes much more : Organization, studies in Marxism, teaching young's , and and and. So he simple didn't get in the essence of capitalism-critics: All in all and populistic show up how capitalism f**** society. But still worths a watch.
We Feed the World (2005)
Nothing we don't already know
Well, if you're a beginner in knowledge of globalism and / or capitalism, this movie may be very interesting for you. It shows you a new perspective of life on earth; people who get exploited for the profit of a few ones. Men looses their jobs at the dictations of EU and modern technology; vegetables are grown up by some new kind of hybrid-seeds, which in the end also just maximizes the profit of CEOs. All in all: Capitalism destroys mankind. Nothing new. Don't misunderstand me: Im by myself a huge enemy of capitalism, better to say: I hate it. But this movie doesn't show anything I don't already know. Some nice pictures, underlined by sad and / or depressed people who suffer from exploitation. What I criticize is that you don't get explained the whole complex thats involved in this. 'Cause its much more. So we had to see more about politics, about suppression, about corporations and their daily work (well, Nestle was a good example, but too close to the surface.)
All in all a good movie for Children and people who want to learn about how global-economics work. 7/10.
V for Vendetta (2005)
Guy Fawkes at its best ;)
Well,...
Facsism born from fear. It has never been more actual than today. I really like the kind of story; fear dictates society and has been used by a few ones to get on top of politics and media to satisfy their greed for power and money. Mankind got suppressed by illusions created by all kinds of media, which also lays in the hand of politics. But there's hope - a fighter for freedom sees through corruption and greed and all the plans that were made to control society. His name is Guy Fawkes. So till here all is fine. Nice story, well done. So far.. But the protagonist "Guy Fawkes" looks ridiculous. He wears a masks that makes him smile all the way. He became a fighter for rights and humanity, the moral Institution of mankind, as he got abused as a test-person for some new kind of virus. Like "Hulk" he breaks through his cell and raises to seek revenge. And this was the point where I started to dislike the film. Too sci-fi, too "Hollywood-made-up", too much action, that it became ridiculous and no more serious, as the political and moralic intention actually is and should be. Dear people: Government really uses you to empower their chosen ones, at the cost of our life's! So I'd like to shout out:"HELLO, THIS REALLY _IS_ HAPPENING, take it more serious and erase your stupid Hollywood-action". Im sick of huge explosions and burning buildings.
But never the less: 'Cause of the great message the movie trys to tell, and the anti-fascist connotation 7/10.
P.S. still excuse my English, trying to better it :)
Equilibrium (2002)
A move about how life could be
Equilibirium is in my opinion one of these timeless moves, that you could watch at every epoch of life but still has an present meaning.
But first of all: How to interpret this movie. On of my first thoughts that came up during watching this move was: Emotionless living, where did you already heard of suppressing your feelings? And later i remembered: Religion.
Religion is all about faith in greater god ("The Father") without questioning his commands, while your natural pulses - like lust -> sex - are forbidden or suppressed. The only difference I imagine is, that Religion does indoctrination for economic advantages , where as in the move all this happened in the case of a greater good - the war and cruelty free society.
So second: What does the move what to tell?
Suppression, blindness and faith doesn't create a greater world, even if its done in a selfless way. Life is about feelings - the ups and downs make life worth; how could you know how much happiness if worth, if you don't know his opposite Anger and Sadness. Every try to uniform mankind ended up even worse than before.
So start living, use you're imagination and feel life!
Third: Why the f*** then just 8/10 ? Simple: Too much action, too less down going, average adaption. Nether the less a great story that makes you think about present politics and cultural behavior.
Thanks for reading
Persepolis (2007)
An individual flight through a historic era
First: Excuse my English - its not that good, as I'm German.
As I've heard of this move Persepolis I was told that its about the Iran-Revolution 'bout the 70s. But its much more than just an historic exclude to an mind changing time - its the personal breakthrough towards the individual freedom and religious independence. Freedom in the cost of losing the ones you love; so the movie is telling you the ying and yang of life - as you see the positive sides of live and decisions, there's always the yang that follows with tragedious side effects; Love and Freedom in Contrast - a lifetime decision.
But why not all 10 points? Well, actually its my subjective dislike to this kind of comic-look-like - there are different comic-movies with political background id prefer (just in the case of looking and the kind the whole movie is drawn) such as "waltz with bashir".
Never the less an all in all great movie that teaches you to love and defend your achieved freedoms. 9/10
