Using my best Comic Book Man voice I say, one of the worst........ movies.......... EVER. There is more cheese in this film than in the entire state of Wisconsin.

I take that back. Wisconsin is too nice a place to associate with this loser. Sorry Wisconsin. As of this writing, I'm STILL waiting for something to happen in this movie.

It is not a total loss though, if viewed in the proper setting. Have your own MST3K night! Pop some corn, chill a bottle or two, and maybe do the twist,,,nudge, nudge ;o) . You'll soon be "riffing" as if you're trapped on a space station ! Peace out from sunny Tennessee.

Run !!!!!!!!

Wow, did this movie suck! Glitter stars patting each other on the back making big bucks, trying to gather a laugh. An industry insider movie to pamper to their wonderful talents.Bah!

Aerosmith? Steven Tyler and Joe Perry signed on, but where was the rest of the band? Smart enough to stay away from this piece of tripe.

And Mr. Leonard? Did you know the screenwriters were taken poetic license with your book? If you didn't sell your soul to Hollywood, then maybe a lawsuit is in order. Your plot, however lean, was totally chopped by this movie to the point of where it made no sense.

I can find little reason to watch this movie. So, in the words of the knights in MP & The Holy Grail,,, run away, run away !!!!!

I happened on this film by accident one afternoon and was quietly surprised. I am a fan of film noir and thought this film would be along those lines. And it was a bit in that fashion.( "The Killers" starring Burt Lancaster is one of my favorite examples of the film noir genre).

But mostly this movie is centered on Washington D.C. in the late 1950's, and the beginnings of what today is considered lobbying. How the movie reflects our capitol today is almost eerie, with our poll takers and vested interests. Downright prophetic in its nature, I found the correlations between that era and today striking. Witness the beginnings of how you're votes are bought. Disturbing to say the least.

I gave the film a "7" rating, because although the movie is worth a look,it is a bit "dated" and does have some "cheese" in the acting.

Say what?

Warning: Spoilers
Some might say a movie such as this one is one of those films "you either get..... or you don't". I would have to disagree, because I "sort of" get it. I just won't fret over this fact. David Lynch films will do this to a person. His genius is a type that not all will understand.

I so enjoy his cinematic visuals with the simple everyday acts. For example, in the way he films the lighting of a cigarette. A simple everyday act , but so tied into the plot of the storyline. He seems to have fine tuned this aspect since Eraserhead. His earlier visuals were quite drawn out and only for the truly patient. But that's another comment board.

** spoiler alert **

Final thought: And just when I thought Dennis Hopper could not be "outcreeped" in one of David Lynch's films, along comes William DeFoe. What a fantastic performance. The movie was worth it on this count alone. Peace out.

So bad....... it's good !

Please allow me to explain my rating of two.If it were a one,I wouldn't advise wasting any time of your life on the movie. But with a rating of two, and maybe with the proper setting to see the movie,I'd give it a look. The proper setting is key! Allow me to explain.

The recipe for this film is to invite some friends. Then lay out some munchies and "drinks",a little cheba cheba, and be prepared to pun the night away!Honestly, this film cannot be matched in it's genre. It is the benchmark.Sober or intoxicated, folks will not be able to resist making comments about this masterpiece.

Remember to have an open mind and give this film one look.Who knows? Maybe you'll even watch it again someday ,because it's "so bad,it's good ".

.....in 3 words.....

....see the original (1965). Jimmy Stewart or Dennis Quaid? No contest, Jimmy acts and Dennis...well...acts too much. I would have a harder time picking an "Elvis".

This re-make does try to stay faithful to the original story. It has appropriate changes in story where needed because of their respective time frames. For example, instead of the Sahara, this time it's the Gobi desert.

Bottom line.....if your demographic is young, go for this newer version for the ???special??? effects, but with cheaper acting. If your demo is such as mine, an older one, choose to view the Jimmy Stewart version. Oh, and by the way, a skinny Elvis. Peace out.

Chew on this....
11 February 2005
.........because this movie is pure "bubblegum". As a pop song which is harmless, so this movie seems to be also. In my eyes, Cellular is a movie which will give one a few thrills, a few laughs, and a few good actors and actresses. The key to a "bubblegum" movie is.... don't take it too seriously.

The one actor who stands out is William Macy. A true professional in the acting world. Although the script is weak, he makes it shine a bit with his performance in Cellular. If you have a chance, watch him in a TV movie titled "Door To Door", a fantastic drama that truly shows his ability to act.

So, take a few hours off and relax. Remember... every movie doesn't have to be seen through a microscope to be enjoyed. I give it a 6 out of 10.
