Jason Bourne (I) (2016)
5/10
Much more was missing
12 November 2016
The review is based upon all the expectation that this last movie created and what we got used to from past great movies.

Is definitely the worst movie of the saga: to give an idea of the context, this is the movie that maybe, and I say maybe, the Bourne saga could have started. Movie after movie, the Bourne saga was getting better and better, being true to what we saw on the first movie and making use of the best ingredients of an action movie. This last movie is a mix of to much but in little proportions and with no connection. It lacks of all that made Bourne movies great.

The whole story lacks of cohesion, plot, characters, context, fight, car scenes - which use to be amazing on previous movies -. Everything is just too simple, to normal, maybe good for a very first movie, but not for the forth and possibly last sequence.

As part of the audience i got no WoW moment, nothing came out unexpected, even the chasing/plot was better on previous movies. And I don't mean it had to be different, because being honest all Bourne movies have the same logic and even though you know what is going to happen (most likely), you get some wows and emotion going on.

We go used to see Bourne as someone extraordinary, but after 123 minutes of movie, it seems he is no longer the same guy. I'm missing the type of scenes or situations that only Jason Bourne can pull out; crazy escapes, being ahead of everyone's moves, driving like Ken Block or taking punches and bullets and still walking away like a pro. As I said before, it might have those, but it very little proportions and with no story behind that can link them properly.

If this is the last sequence of Bourne, the general feeling is....mahhh.

A delight for all your senses
1 July 2016
Have to say that is on my list of favorite movies.

The story itself might be hard to believe, fantasy or shallow. But is a movie that delivers in every sense. Even if is about smell, that is actually the only sense you wont have directly stimulated. The combination of an outstanding soundtrack, with beautiful scenography, photography and framing makes it so stimulating, is like you almost can smell the scent, or at least really want to smell and try what the characters are feeling. Full of non predictable scenes and story, which makes the package of the entire movie an totally worth watching. The acting brings a big quota to the quality, really good main character.

Honestly, and I have to say it again; great soundtrack, great visual and good story.

Be open to it, have a good mood and enjoy.

Not worth watching
22 June 2015
Honestly one of the worst movies I've seen so far, and so one of the lowest scores i've given to a movie.

The quality of the movie is just awful on every aspect; Visual effects, the scrip, the story, the acting and even the length. For a movie this awful, more than two hours is a huge challenge.... to the viewers! Is so hard to watch!. Just to give you an example; the helicopters on the movie (all of them) are computer made, and they look so fake, the major explosion, effects and so on are also computer made and they don't bring anything to the movie. Bollywood effects are better. Expendables 3 compares perhaps with Nigerian low budget visual effect movies.

Indeed I felt exited on the first movie of the Expendables, just for the fact of having all the actors I grew up watching on TV, now on a single movie. However memory played a trick on me, and maybe for the 80's, the quality of acting of them was good, but not for today's standards, most of them have no proper training on acting and all of them deliver a quite bad overall experience. Antonio Banderas tried to make something cool, but again, the scrip, story and effect made no contribution to his acting.

I really hope they don't come up with a 4th version of this awful set of movies.

Let's be honest, they were stars in the 80's, but let the 80's be their time. This movies are just a joke, if I want to go back to the 80's I watch Commando or Rocky or something like that, and believe me, those movies are way better than the Expendables trilogy, at least they are classic movies.

Sorry for the heroes of my childhood, but their time has passed.

Cymbeline (2014)

Overall movie
7 May 2015
The film idea itself is quite good, the idea of mixing a novel context with the modern times is quite interesting.

The cast and acting are good, the first scenes of the film kind of hook you to keep on watching, but afterwards is just hard to follow, watch and understand. The film has a great idea but fells like the film lacks of execution and direction. To start; linking the stories and characters is really hard (try to use paper an pen otherwise you are lost). But probably the worst part of the movie and the reason is so hard to follow and understand is the speeches the cast has to go trough. I get the idea of making a contemporary film based on a Shakespeare novel from the 1600, but is the year 2015, and this kind of speech is to elaborated, complex and not very well suited for today's audience (unless the film is targeted to highly literate people). A novel such as Cymbeline requires time and re-reading to understand, a film should better work on the idea of Cymbeline and focus less on follow step by step the novel speech.

Not the best movie example (nor my favorite), but Romeo and Juliet (1996) had some of this novel way of speaking, but understandable. Cymbeline (2015) is all the time that dense, complex and confusing way of narration from the 1600's.

The best part of the movie, in my opinion, were the soundtracks, but not only the ones that appear on the credits (only 5 songs), rather the song from the beginning, for example. Couldn't find the artist of those songs, but my congrats to the artist, really good music selection.

Overall opinion of the movie.
19 April 2015
Really bad movie, the first version of "the Man with the iron fists" is interesting; photo, music, plot, cast. But this second version is bad from start to end; aerial shots are really poor (drone shakes once in a while as well as the color quality), acting of the secondary characters is poor as well, not even overacted is just bad acting (90% of the cast is secondary or not decently known actors). The plot, visual effects, make up and fight choreography is also poor. After 10 min is really hard to keep on watching, you really have to try hard to kind of enjoy it. The music is kind of OK, but not compared to the first movie, which in my opinion was the most interesting part of a Kungfu kind of movie with the RZA music taste.

Unfortunately a really, but really bad sequel.

If you like B type of movies, like the 80's delta force or American ninja, you might like this one, I say might.

Good movie but missing many details
24 July 2014
The movie is really good, has a slow beginning, a lot of action, and very, very, but very poor end. Also because the movie is so long (almost 3 hours) and by the moment is going to end, it felt like the needed to wrap up the movie and finish it, cause they realized it was to long. One key piece that I believe was missing; that kind of transformer sound they do when they transform from car to robots, I hope you know what I mean, well yes that sound that was awesome on the first and second movie, totally slipped director mind, or the sound guy. Was the first thing I realize when I left the theater and felt really disappointing. To conclude, they make it to obvious about future sequels, which is pretty lame. Good luck with the next movie, Michael Bay I really hope you are reading this and pay attention to next movies, otherwise the quality of transformer is just going down!
