The St. Louis Bank Robbery (1959)
Steve McQueen's Innocence....
is a must to see. Before he became "one of the System's bad boys". He is refreshing and I would tell any true Steve McQueen fan to see this movie just on the strength of his performance.
The movie itself is a hoot! I mean with not so evasive homosexual references and shades of Noir...and in the early 50's!!....it is worth seeing. I liked it.
It is a story of the "Great St. Louis Bank Robbery" in the early 50's....great period piece for those of us who were alive then....and for those who were not to see what a section of Americana looked like....
Using the real people involved in the actual heist is great! Non-Actors who are reliving their dream or nightmare....depending.
See it. You won't be disappointed.
The Manipulator (1971)
On The Fence...
Mickey! Mickey, Mickey, Mickey. What was it that inspired you to act in this movie? Money? Or was it a need to demonstrate how bizarre you can get? This is Andy Hardy on Acid....in itself a treat to see a multi dimensional character played by someone who Uncle Walt Disney named That famous Rat after....sorry, a mouse.
So if you are interested in trying to figure out what was really being said in a early 70's Avent Garde Drugged Out Movie dealing with the effects of Acid, either taken by the Audience or the Actors...then go and see it.
As for me, I am still sitting on the fence as one of Mickey Rooney Most Bizarre Movies....sort of like William Shatner's singing...Bizare and Way Out.
Out (1982)
Only For Open Minded Free Thinkers...
I can hardly wait to see this Brilliant Movie Again! What makes it so??? Because it absolutely makes no sense to anyone viewing it except for his or her own interpretation...thats it! The whole effect of this movie....is that you do not know where you are, where your been, and where you might be going...but you hang in there...maybe not for the staid type who has to be told where they are at...but if you have ANY! imagination left after being treated like numbskull's by the Movie Industry...then do see this Movie..with Peter Coyote and Danny Glover...and a Elder of the First Nation...it will make you think, and then think again...See It!
Carnival Story (1954)
If its Anne....then it is worth seeing!
I could not help but compare this film to her earlier work "All About Eve", not because it was similar but because it was the first film I had seen her in since viewing "AAE".
I was looking for the same great performances from her, and on occasions I was satisfied, yet the rest of the cast WAS NOT on the same page as her! She out-shined them all, which I admit was not that hard to do in this lack luster, poor, foreign film about United States Carnivals...and of course the typical stereo typing of the so called freaks prevailed...
Still, I read another viewers comments on the film and I have to agree, it was rather odd of Anne's character, who was in fact, a Black Widow if you looked close enough...
See it for Anne and Steve Cochran if not for the exploitation of Carnies....
