Lootcase (2020)
Give it a try
Lootcase is entertaining in it's own way with new and fresh line of comedy, much better than any star studded bollywood flick. All performances are exceptionally good but Vijay Raaz steals the show. Don't get fooled by low ratings, many of them would be baseless and finally do subscribe to NatGeo !
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Don't keep high expectations
Yes, don't keep high expectations just because you loved Matrix series and liked Cloud Atlas. Wachowskis don't seem to find that connectedness with viewers this time. The direction is super, no doubt on those technical special effects but what the movie lacks is the solid foundation of storyline. In recreating entirely new universe, the movie fails to engage the viewer with altogether new world. The concept is ok but the development of idea is poor. Acting is very average and I even didn't liked Eddie Redmayne fumbles here.
The Liberator (2020)
Watch for sure if you are Band of Brothers fan
There are so many similarity in execution of the storyline with Band of Brothers. However, The Liberator is unique in it's own way of delivering the message through anime media. It's there that it falls back, it's difficult to recreate horrors of war in anime and specially when you stick to reality, you can't recreate the trauma of splash of blood over you with just a red patch in anime, but the attempt is praiseworthy.
Ludo (2020)
Great movie, Anurag Basu nailed it
Overall it's fun to watch with stories crisscrossing and it always keeps you hooked for next plot twist.
The directional style of Anurag Basu and specially the plot interconnectedness will always remind you of Life in a Metro, albeit of different genre.
Biwi Aur Makan (1966)
Mehmood at his best!
It's a decent comedy with large ensemble cast, however Mehmood is the pivot for the film. The concept and storyline is quite innovative and always keeps you entertained. The songs are fairly catchy and keep you hooked.
It's Marathi language adaptation titled "Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi" with star studded cast and superhit songs is worth watch!
Paper Moon (1973)
Paper moon touches your innermost self
This movie is difficult to be described in words, at least the right choice of words. There is some eccentricity in the storyline, its very catchy and entertaining but at the same time absolutely unassuming and unpredictable. Normally you would always be amazed to see how many times you wanted certain things to happen during the movie but it is so practical that you realise that you are assuming too much of romanticism in the world which seldom exists and thats why the plot is near perfect! Still the movie continues to entertain you, its neither a happy romanticised dream nor a tragedy but its the slug fit between these two ends of the drama.
The acting and on screen chemistry of real life father daughter duo is phenomenal and certainly Tatum O'neal amazes as a child actor. The movie explores certain dimensions of those delicate and subtle human emotions of love which you long to express but cannot due to situations.
Its definitely impressive movie with a perfect acting, plot, settings and direction which made me revise its rating to a perfect 10 from 9 as I couldn't stop thinking about it for long time!
Badlands (1973)
Excellent artwork that goes into the depth of mind
Badlands is the movie that truly embraces the word "Romantic" in it's core. It may not necessarily be out of love between two people but the very romantic ideals which often rule our mind and our world view. In Badlands, these ideals get manifested through the couple's adventures into the unknown. To understand truly and to explore the depth of this romanticism, one has to be very patient, calm, relaxed and so the film is! It grasps your mind with it's calm narration, surprising unfolding of events, development of characters and above all a beautiful music to support the narration. One has to contemplate over the human nature while watching and after watching film to really understand the essence of this masterpiece.
The debut film of Terrence Malick marks very commendable achievement for this very talented director. Though the basic theme of the film is love, it explores it in very different fashion. This is romantic, serene, peaceful, not greedy or lustful and still it is dark. It's the excellent example of how fate take it all with very little in hands for the lovers completely subdued in their romantic and fancy thoughts. The theme is very similar to another subsequent masterpiece of Malick, Days of Heaven. In both the films, the protagonist in deep love is driven by his criminal intents to achieve some kind of ulterior motives. In Days of Heaven, it's quite clear but in Badlands, it is not easily discernible and that's why even after killing spree, we feel pity for the protagonist in Badlands. Because of obscurity and inability to differentiate between right and wrong, probably because of love, the female protagonists in both the films become accomplice in the crimes of their lovers. Still in this case also the sympathy goes to the tender teenager Holly in Badlands.
The performances of Martin Sheen and Sissy Spackek are excellent. The role of poised and calm temperamental Kit suits Martin Sheen and this comes as the best age defying performance for the actor. Sissy Spackek impresses with class narratives and matching acting performance on screen. The film also scores on count of beautiful background music and theme.
A must watch film but without any preconceived notions, it's enjoyable if we look at the plot as it comes and unfolds while contemplating about the human nature and subconscious mind.
