The Great Alaskan Race (2019)
It could have been a really good movie
Some of the acting was good. The musical score was lovely. The scenery was pretty, for Colorado. It was not filmed in Alaska, OOPS! Colorado trees are nothing like Alaska trees, and the landscape is very different as our the buildings.
Unfortunately, there are so many inaccuracies in this film, too many to count, but the ones I am going to mention are the ones that stick out like a sore thumb.
The film begins in 1918 with the flu epidemic in Alaska specifically Nome. About half of the endemic population was wiped out because of this disease. Unfortunately, Hollywood decided to use Native Americans from the contiguous United States rather than Intuit people in Alaska. They look nothing alike. Inuit people are small in stature and their facial features are completely different as are their accents are completely different. Grizzly bears are not seen in the dead of winter fishing in streams. They are hibernating. The lovely Kiana did not exist. Leonhard Seppala did not marry an Intuit woman, and did not have a child with her. In fact, in 1908 he actually married Constance and they had a little girl in 1917 named Sigrid. So most of the story of Constance is garbage and Kiana did not exist at all.
Which intern makes most of the story of Sigrid also garbage
1925 let's start with the word NENANA, being mispronounced throughout most of the film. NENANA is a tribe of Indians. NENANA translates in English to a good place to camp between rivers. The stone cabin would not have existed in Nome then or today. The term LOWER 48 was not used until this country had 50 states. So that would've been after 1959. It referred to the 48 states of the contiguous United States, including MAINE. Another word mispronounced was MUSHER. It is not pronounced MOOSHER.
In the trivia of this IMDb post is a blurb Feb 2020, about a group of 15 adventurers in Alaska that will travel along the historic trail retracing history on the serum run expedition traveling from Nenana to Nome. Can you say annual IDITAROD RACE in March?
I was excited to see this film until I saw the opening scene of the trees in the mountains and the snow and the grizzly bear and I thought oh good grief. Hollywood did it again. Completely butchered a true story.
Christmas on Mistletoe Farm (2022)
Fun, Colorful, Animals, Humor
I don't know why this movie has a 4.5 average rating. Is it an Oscar performance? No, but it isn't supposed to be. It's a fun family movie for mom, dad & kids under the age of 12. Teenagers will most likely just roll their eyes at it. Pop some popcorn, get some hot chocolate made & sit down for a fun adventure into the English countryside with a single
dad, 5 kids, Beano the farmhand, a plethora of miniature animals, sweet townsfolk & lessons to be learned. There will be much laughter and many aawww moments. The animals are so cute, the kids are adorable, especially the little boy. The dad is overworked with a boss that needs to learn some lessons herself.
Absurd Planet (2020)
Absurdly fabulous
This show/series has gotten a lot of bad reviews and low ratings. I found it. Absolutely fun and funny yet educational and interesting. I'm told from the perspective of mother nature with a sense of humor. It's for nature loving adults with an hilarious sense of humor. I laughed most of the way through it, and learned some things. I would totally recommend it to somebody that wants to learn some things about nature they probably did not know and have a good time doing it. It's not heavy and it's not for children. I laughed out loud and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. However, if you don't have a silly sense of humor, you probably won't like it.
Blues Brothers 2000 (1998)
BB 2000
I gave this film an 8 simply because of the music and all the great musicians in the film. It's worth watching just to listen to the music and watch the enormous amount of talent gathered in one place. The story itself is kind of cheesy but it's fun. Nothing heavy, silly and fun, get your popcorn n beer, sit back and have fun with fabulous music! Enjoy.
The Talk (2010)
Best damn talk show ever
The ladies are always ladies and respectful of each other. They are relevant and funny, lots of common sense and they are nice. They never get nasty and mean like on that "other" show. They discuss current events even if it means discussing one of their own. But they do it with RESPECT and compassion. The guests are interesting and are also current. They frequently provide audiences with free goodies. Very fun show!
Mechanized Death (1961)
Mechanized Death
I saw this film in a Drivers Ed class in 1975. Many scenes, in fact most scenes are stuck in my brain. This may be why I am the best driver in my family! The scenes are real, they are not re-enactments, the photos were provided by Ohio Highway Patrol. I believe all future drivers in this country must see this film in order to pass a driver licensing test...all people, young & old, citizens & foreigners. You'll think twice before driving like a moron! It's disturbing. It's bloody. It's horrific. This film is an eye opener of just what destruction can happen during a vehicle crash. It's not entertainment, it's educational!
