Bibifoc (1984)
Brilliant Series
This is a series that was way ahead of its time. Every episode has a message. The first episode plants seeds of compassion in anyone (young and old) who watches it. Those seeds are watered with each episode. My (now grown) son has wonderful memories of watching this series as a child. He now enjoys watching them with his 3 year-old son. I'm heartbroken that these episodes are not available on DVD. Even on VHS many of them are hard to find. I grab them on ebay and Amazon whenever I find them. More people need to see these. With the huge boost in awareness about animals and the environment, re-released on DVD this series would be hugely popular!
The Animals Film (1981)
~ awesome expose. everyone must see this film. ~
This is the most powerful and all-encompassing expose on the animal exploiting industries (including the meat, dairy, fur, and vivisection industries) I have seen to date. It (unfortunately) remains as valid today as it was over twenty years ago when it was made. This is the film that definitively turned me into a vegetarian. Most people choose to remain selectively ignorant about these issues because they are too painful and upsetting to look at. Doesn't that suggest that maybe there is something inherently WRONG with the way in which we treat animals in our society? A must-see.

Crown Heights (2004)
~ awesome flick promoting tolerance ~
This is an amazing movie based on the true story of Dr. Laz, the Lubavicher Jew who, along with an African American preacher, set out to promote tolerance by joining young Jews and African Americans together to create a basketball team and a rap group. I find it incredible that in the midst of the chaos and rage in the area after the Crown Heights disasters of Gavin Cato and Yankel Rosenberg's deaths, they found the strength and inspiration to plant these wonderful seeds of compassion. Howie Mandel does a fabulous and believable job of portraying Dr.Laz and Mario van Peebles does equally well in bringing to life a character who is actually based on two real-life people combined. I highly recommend this film for both its entertainment and educational value.
The Harder They Come (1972)
awesome, timeless film
amazing film. i'd seen it in the movies when it first came out. this is the film that really introduced me to reggae music. for a film that was obviously made on a limited budget, it has everything. it touches every emotion and teaches many life lessons with a beautiful backdrop of real and raw Jamaican life. the plot is basically a poor boy who dreams of becoming famous through his music - regardless of the price. to me it represents the epitome of human nature. i think it also typifies the music industry worldwide and the frustrations and obstacles artists must overcome. i've recently purchased the film on DVD and now, years later, it's just as awesome as the first time i saw it!
