Crashing (2017)
It's a Great Show, But...
Look, I love this show and I love Pete, he's a hilarious comedian in real life and he also has some hilarious stuff on YouTube from his days on The Pete Holmes show but I feel like this show would have benefited from a little more humanity.
The problem I have with this show is the cringy, unrealistically harsh interactions every single person on this show has to Pete just existing.
Everytime someone comes into contact with this kind, funny, gentle giant of a man they immediately have an "eff you, get away from me" attitude, even his friends eventually appear annoyed by him just because he's there, it gets annoying and cringy and it's fairly unrealistic in terms of how most humans interact with each other.
The second issue I have with this show is how many jokes they try to cram into literally every single scene... I am aware this is a show about comedians but it interrupts the flow of conversation a lot and it gets distracting.
Other than that I've watched through the series 4 times and it never gets old! I would highly recommend it and also checking out everything else Pete Holmes has done, he is a very funny dude and deserves more accolades than he gets.
Entourage (2004)
In a Post Weinstein Era, This Doesn't Hold Up...
Which in a way makes it even funnier in a lot of ways, but not in many good ways.
The constant homophobia and gay bashing is ever present in this early 2000's comedy about Hollywood and also sexual harassment and coercion are alive and well in this show, though very toned down compared to what ACTUALLY was going on in Hollywood around that time, in fact I had to rewind a couple scenes to make sure I was really hearing and seeing what I thought I was... It is truly insane that the LGBTQ+ community were frequently used as props to rattle cheap jokes off (jokes very heavy on the other F word I might add).
The comedy comes in when you're left shaking your head at how much the show does NOT hold up.
Those were the negatives, now for the positives.
The show is entertaining in the way that it shows what a star on the rise may go through in order to stamp their place in film history. Adrian does a great job in this role, it's fairly ironic looking at his characters meteoric rise and fall over the course of the show compared to what the actor who plays Vinny has done since then... Bet they never thought Aquaman would actually get made and the lead actor would be a tank of a human like Jason Momoa.
If you can ignore all the aforementioned homophobia and outright sexual assault in this show then it's an entertaining watch.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
It's Funny, Just Stfu and watch it.
I admit I fell victim to the hate train without watching even a minute of this show and boy, oh boy, do I regret that now.
I watch a lot of reviewers on YouTube and 9 out of 10 of them said this is a dumb show written by women who hate men FOR women who hate men and that every man portrayed in this show is either stupid or an over the top stereotype of a misogynist... I'm here to tell you that none of that is true. There are very funny, competent, intelligent and respectful men portrayed in this show, but since they don't get as much screen time as the main character (as you should expect from a show titled "She-Hulk) it creates more space for the men the writers very clearly meant to write as stereotypes for dramatic or comical affect to show up and push the plot forward, in most cases that's just what these stereotypes are, plot devices to illustrate a point and it makes perfect sense within the context of the show.
I must admit I'm pretty disappointed in myself for not giving this show a chance just based off the rating and the anti-hype it's been getting. In most cases I prefer a woman antagonist over a male antagonist, wether it's video games or tv and movies, though I do somewhat resent the compulsion to make the men seem stupid in order to elevate their woman counterparts in alot of media these days because I think all sexes and genders can and should be portrayed as capable and competent BUT this show actually does not do that at all, despite what you heard it's a very witty, funny and fun show with good comedic writing and an interesting super hero character arc.
Check it out! You'll probably like it, I do.
The Outlaws (2021)
All Bark, No Bite
This show had the potential to be a very good show and it had a lot of good writing, the camera work, set design and music choices were very good but ultimately it lacked the grit you really want from a show like this.
Spoilers ahead.
In my opinion this show would have been elevated by killing off a character or two... This would be categorized as a crime dramedy but the stakes ended up feeling super low despite how much they tried to pack it in with the police on their trail at all times and the heists they pulled because the villains never did anything extreme on camera, nor did the protagonists. Sure they were all dealing drugs but they never crossed that line that would have put this show over the edge.
It was a decent watch but there are plenty of shows out there that do this premise much better, it was like a watered down Ozark with some comedy sprinkled in.
I Care a Lot (2020)
This Movie is Extremely Confused
This Movie thinks we are rooting for the wrong people.
These women we follow are absolutely horrible, awful pieces of trash, but the movie is played up like they're antihero's who are routinely abused and underestimated because they're women and we are supposed to root for these people who take advantage of elderly people and strip them of their rights and property... This is not some feel good story about people who are screwing the system in a good way, this is a story about a couple of monster who abuse and rob people... Why would we root for these people? Why would we want these people to win? I think the team who made this movie got turned around somewhere in the making of it, cause these women absolutely suck and they need to be stopped, not rewarded for their go get em attitude.
Don't watch it, it will make you angry and it's stupid.
Black Bird (2022)
Sooooo On The Nose.
Taron Egerton and Paul Walter Hauser gave the performance of a lifetime in every scene they were in, I love both of the main actors in this show for very different reasons and I really applaud Paul Walter Hauser for taking and completely nailing a role so outside of his comfort zone (he plays Jimmy Tacos competition in "I think you should leave" and it's awesome) but the writing really failed everyone involved in this show by like a lot... The only reason this show is so compelling is because of the performances.
There's a lot of tension building that leads to nothing, this happens again and again, you can pretty much guess everything that will happen next if you reduce every interaction to the lowest common denominator, it makes for a really lacklustre, boring series, but again Taron, Paul and Greg made it a very watchable series because they acted their tushies off.
Paper Girls (2022)
Fantastic Adaptation of An Amazing Comic Series
You can really tell when the creators of a show care about the source material and when they just want pay cheque, this show is the first one, if you want an example of the second one get yourself a free trial of paramount plus and watch the first 10 minutes of the Halo series.
I really can't fathom why this show has such a low rating compared to something like Stranger Things with an 8 and above. The best conclusion I can come to is that certain groups don't like to see a teen female cast carrying a series, because even if this show isn't for you, you should be able to recognize the incredible writing, the stand out performances from the younger cast and the concept putting a fresh spin on time travel as a back drop, the set designs are very thorough and realistic, I believe they really translated everything from the comic into a very well put together and interesting story.
The relationship between certain characters is very heart warming and interesting and they really don't hold back in terms of the dark nature of their storylines.
I really hope that the low rating doesn't have an effect on green lighting a second season, I loved the comic and I love this show! If you love it too, give it a good rating so we can get that score up!
Thanks Brian K. Vaughan, you're one of the best writers out there.
Wipeout: OMFG Girl Run! (2021)
Hahahaha! I love this
She said JIZZLEATOR instead of JIGGLEATOR!! This is the best sequal/reboot ever. Great job, everyone who hates on this is just being a jerk. Get over yourselves and enjoy the show ffs.
Yellowjackets (2021)
Almost Impressive How Pointless and Dull This Is Given The Premise
Where to begin.... So the show really hooks you in with an exciting opening up in the mountains, let's just say a young girl is having a very bad day, then that's pretty much the last interesting thing to happen until the very last episode of the season.
This show just kind of meanders slowly and pointlessly through the 4 main characters lives as adults, while teasing small snippets of their lives after crash landing on the mountain as teens but always cutting away back to their lives as boring adults before anything interesting happens. There's a bunch of super uninteresting sub plots with all main characters, there's some random violent imagery for shock value but ultimately nothing that ever pushes the plot forward... Just skip this one, I'm not even joking it does barely anything at all until the very last episode.
Side note that I have to add: I could not stop laughing during the last episode when one of the main characters passed away after falling asleep outside and just not waking up when it started to snow... I know, I know, hypothermia makes you tired but she could have gone back inside at anytime... Who willfully falls asleep outside just for the sake of the drama of being found dead? Like this show is so dumb and disorganized, it truly was a waste of 9 hours for me.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Everything you want it to be and more
Remember when critics said there were too many villains in the third installment of the Raimi trilogy? Well Marvel somehow managed to have twice as many villains and they all got an arc, not to mention some other amazing cameos... Oh it was just soooooo good. I can't wait to see it again ASAP.
The Hunt (2020)
I Don't Understand Why This Is Rated So Low
I'm not even done the movie yet and unless the ending somehow retroactively ruins the rest of the movie, I am having a grand old time watching this thing!! I love it! I'm into it! Betty Gilpin is awesome, I hope to see her in more feature lengths following this performance.
Blindspotting (2018)
Fantastic Story, Flawless Execution
This movie is amazing, if you want a great story about friendship, the black lives matter movement and music, you'll love this movie.
Palm Springs (2020)
Best Romcom Ever Made
This movie is the most inventive Romcom that's ever been made and I want more like it from The Lonely Island. They avoid tropes altogether, the conflict makes sense and it's a twist when you find out what the female leads issue is, the reason behind the loop makes sense from sci Fi standpoint and the ending is sooooo satisfying.
The characters are well written and well acted and their reaction to the situation they are in makes sense.
You should watch this movie, my fiancee and I are watching it for the second time in 24 hours.
How Far Is Tattoo Far? (2018)
Super unethical, liiiiike so unethical and I love it
God the tattoo artists have to check their ethics at the door... To me it's the equivalent of letting your friend choose an elective surgery for you, especially with the bigger tattoos like... Dang dude, this is life changing stuff and the artists are like "man paychecks are GREAT! Eff my ethical responsibility to do good work that the client is explicitly okay with, just sign the waiver and let's goooooooot!" Yeah I love it, this show is amazing. Great job on digging your way down to a brand new low, keep it up PLEASE!
Utopia (2020)
They did a whoopsie!
All they needed to do was hire better actors, darken the tone, make it a little more gritty and a little more mature and fill in all the plot holes that are evident in just the first episode... So disappointing, the concept is so great and the comic book itself is something I would definitely read. The imagery of the comic doesn't even match the campy tone of this dumb show. Don't waste an hour of your life on this, it ain't worth it dawg.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
As good as it possibly could be
As far as late sequels go, I think this is one of the best. They nailed the tone and managed to get some big names in comedy to appear in the sequel. Great job guys! You did it.
Tenet (2020)
The Product Of a Bad Peyote Trip
Christopher Nolan's most confusing movie yet! Omg. Not just due to the fact that they didn't make time to explain alot, but also due to the fact that every single time somebody stops to explain something they're wearing a mask, or eating food, or they're facing away from the camera, or their accent is sooooo thick you can't understand what they're saying. Maybe I'm dumb as hell but this movie made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
This is what happens when you write a movie on peyote.
The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2018)
She doesn't wear a hat... But she doooooooo wear dah hate doh
She Cameron, she gay, she live in backwards place that think the concepts of being gay and being religious don't bump... So she get caught by boyfriend. She go to a re-education camp for make people uuuuuh not gay, more Christian, less gay. This movie didn't really cover anything, they didn't cover the abuse that happens in these camps, they didn't really even cover the extensive gay bashing that happens in these backwards places. They didn't cover anyone's back story really, there was no real "drama" in this story. They were just like "she Cameron, this how she do life now, oopsyyyyyy" it sucked. Don't waste your time with this one, while this was an important story 27 years ago, it doesn't translate. Seemed like an excuse to have Chloe Grace Moretz do gratuitous sex scenes with women, which is great if that's what you're into but it wasn't a great movie.
Freaks (2018)
15$ and an old creepy dude in an ice cream truck and voila.
If I had the power to travel through time I'd go back and play patty cake with a rabid possum for an hour and a half than watch this film. Throw 7$ in a trash bin and burn it rather than spending money on this trash pile.
Coffee & Kareem (2020)
Don't make it the film industries problem that you don't know how ratings work
I assume most of these reviews are from parents who thought "oh there's a child on the advertisement, must be a kids film!" These are the same parents who took their kids to see Deadpool. This movie was hilarious, surprisingly well written and original for a buddy cop type film. My partner and I almost didn't watch it because of the rating but five minutes in we were hooked. Give it a chance, screw the ratings, this is a great film. If you think you're kids aren't talking like that kid everytime you're out of earshot remember for a second they also have the internet and they're most likely better at using it than you are, stay blissfully ignorant parents!
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Seven In A Hat
I think you can't trust people in hats. They're hiding something. So when I wear a hat I feel like all my secrets are kept safe... Unless someone else knows. Where is my hat, I often wonder... Oops.
