American Sniper (2014)
Hollywood Propaganda and Brainwash
I did enjoy the film on a purely "for entertainment only" level. Some of the gun fights and action sequences felt just like you are playing the game Call of Duty or Battlefield. 6.5/10 However, as many other have said before me, this film is totally inaccurate in its portrayal of America's role in the war.
It fails to address the fact that America invaded Iraq for no reason other than to acquire resources.....Consequently many hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians were either severely injured or fatally wounded in what many now recognise as an unlawful invasion of another country.
The danger is that those who are not familiar with the facts of this war may watch this (in the future) and be lead to a very inaccurate and biased view of what truly happened.
It is for this reason that I have no choice but to give this a 1/10.
Bosch (2014)
Disappointment! Boring series, one dimensional characters.
I don't usually write reviews, but did notice that there are not many recent reviews on this show, so I am submitting this in the hope to balance things up.
I have not read any of the books, so this is my perspective from only knowing about the TV series.
I have just finished the 10 episode series and have found it to be better than your average precedural cop series (but not by much, as I hate precedurals in general), but overall can definitely be a whole lot better. The first 3 epusodes were okay, then it went downhill fast from there.
Firstly, the characters. I just don't find any of them likable or in any way special. So I did not really care whether they succeeded or failed or even died on the show. This is especially true of the female characters.
Secondly, the show feels really slow drawn out and contrived. I am sure some people may disagree, but for me I often finding myself losing interest, playing with my phone, using my tablet etc... There's hardly ever any action and its more police soap opera drama than anything else.
Finally, there are so many better shows out there that I cant really recommend this.
For a more realistic and gritty cop series try 19-2 (2014), its a very underrated Canadian series. Don't let this put you off, its actually really good.
For a better series in terms of action, character development, and story try Dexter (2006). There are some weaker seasons mid series, but overall still much better than this.
Michael Jackson: What Really Happened (2007)
Biased and untrue
This is not a documentary, it is rather a very biased account, with many preposterous claims.
While some people who do not fully know or understand the background to MJ, this may persuade them that MJ is a bad person. But for those who know, these claims and the way they are presented are just truly ridiculous.
The interviews have been edited, and statements taken so out of context its beyond a joke. Shame on you!
I do not recommend it, but watch it if you please, and you will see what I mean.
Best Friends Forever (2012)
Having seen episodes 1-4, heres what I think so far...
This is my first review. I decided to contribute by writing this review because at the time of writing there is only one other who has reviewed this show.
The story is about Jessica having to move in with her BFF (and boyfriend) in NYC after her husband filed for divorce. The characters' situation forces them to compromise for everyone's happiness, but overall, BFF is unrealistic, predictable and unimpressive.
The humour revolves around scenarios that can be found in a two girl one guy household. This has been done many times over, (in a more suitable 20-30 age range) and in my opinion is rather weak.
Given this, I did not once find any of the situations funny, but moreover often finding them rather silly and awkward.
I mean, if Jessica was as good a friend as Lennon (who allowed her to stay temporarily until she finds her feet), then she would just find a place of her own asap rather than continue to impose and create these awkward situations.
The character Jessica is a 40 year old woman, surely, at that age you would think one is fully capable of, and prefers living independently.
I have tried to give it a chance, but after 4 episodes (it just gets annoying as) I just do not think the show is funny or believable, and so to conclude, I will no longer be watching this series.
2/10 for the effort, but its just not funny!
