Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
No matter how interesting a story is, it must also engage you
I don't trust Scorsese as director anymore. He has completely forgotten the sacred art of editing and keeping a movie to the right length. That happened recently with The Irishman (too long) and with this movie as well (WAY too long).
It's unfair to drag me into a cinema, for a 3h 26m movie, without even showing the effort to keep my attention high.
Despite some great acting (what else would you expect from Di Caprio/De Niro?) the movie plot is a mess with shallow characters development. Many scenes are repetitive, it looks like the same scene was shot again and again with different actors.
I guess I was expecting something like "there will be blood", a long movie set in an epic, classical America with a strong and passionate character climax that manages to keep you glued to the screen for almost 3 hours.
Instead I got a boring, repetitive, long, shallow and unedited film that, incredibly, achieves an astounding vote of 8.2 average on IMDB (it was 8.5 when I bought the cinema tickets).
Oppenheimer (2023)
Disappointed, boring politics
I expected much more from this film, I found it too long and, unfortunately, quite boring.
All the actors are exceptional, don't get me wrong, but too little space is given to the technique of building the bomb compared to the politics. As an Italian, I believe that Enrico Fermi's role deserves more space, considering his contribution to the Manhattan project.
In the explosion scene I would have expected to perceive the true power of the bomb, making the most of the impressive acoustics of a cinema hall... instead I got two minutes of muted scenes, with beautiful vivid flames yes, but ending in a mushroom cloud barely visible on the dark background.
The political intrigue organized by Strauss for the Cabinet job was as engaging as reading an old calendar... it could (should) have been replaced by a written epilogue.
The Batman (2022)
Very good atmosphere but too long and boring
I appreciated the atmosphere, it's dark and gloomy. Photography is also very good, as the special effects.
Sadly, the story is not that interesting, there are many subplots that could (should) be removed. The movie is way too long, they should have kept it under 2h.
A wasted opportunity.
Recon (2019)
noioso e senza senso
The film is slow, boring and not very credible. I have never seen soldiers so stupid and unruly, so much so that they represent a danger to themselves and to the whole team.
I did not like Franco Nero's acting at all, way too much make-up and he acted as somebody who had just come off the stage of a Shakespearean theater.
Security (2021)
Bad acting overall
The move plot could be interesting but it gets messy and confusing pretty quick. A lot of stories tie together somehow but the resulting mix makes little sense.
Marco D'Amore and Fabrizio bentivoglio are good actors and did a nice job but I didn't like Maya Sansa at all, I'm sorry. She struggles to show any emotion, she seems to talk and act the same way despite of the scene she's in. It's also very difficult to understand what she says, because of the low and unclear voice.
The young guys, all of them, acted well.
Domino (2019)
Very bad experience
I would have given 3 to this movie, but considering it was directed by Brian De Palma, featuring the excellent Guy Pearce and two actors from GoT I think it deserves 1.
You can't, oh well - you shouldn't - exploit De Palma's reputation in order to sell a clearly rushed, bad scripted, bad filmed, B cop movie. But I guess De Palma, like us, too has bills to pay.
The story itself is stupid. What kind of experienced cop forgets his gun?
What kind of experienced cop can't correctly apply handcuffs to a violent suspect?
What kind of cop turns his back to a violent and strong suspect in front of a giant window?
What kind of cop let his partner bleed to death while trying to get himself killed jumping of a roof in order to follow a suspect?
What kind of cop tried to board an airplane with a loaded gun... and then just leaves it a the security check??
The terrorist attack scene in Belgium was absurd... a girl shooting with an automatic rifle and a crowd of deaf people just stands there watching?
The love story was idiotic (and unrealistic) and its only purpose was the finale...
The acting is mostly ok, the MUSIC is indeed terrible.... most of the times if the music works you won't even notice it, in this case it's just annoying. too loud and too much presence.
avoid, unless prepared
Alex l'ariete (2000)
Scandalously bad movie.
This movie was exactly what I expected it to be when i first read the casting. I probably could have written a more exciting plot, it's a pity that they left it to a pack of Howler Monkeys. Alberto Tomba was surely a good skier but he has to thank God (and we too) that he does not have to rely on his actor skills to earn his living. He can't play, he can't talk, he can't even move very good on mainland without his skis... Michelle Hunziker is a pretty blonde girl, and that's all. She obviously wasn't chosen for her astounding competence in dramatic roles but most probably for her nice legs. Nevertheless I must admit that she could be the Tomba's acting teacher, because he's even a worse actor than her, and that's funny, especially considering that she isn't italian. I laughed all the time, watching this movie. I found it so ridiculous and meaningless that it actually made me laugh, loud, very loud.
