Sherlock (2010–2017)
8/10
It's sliding into the abyss boys and girls
11 January 2017
I finished watching the Six Thatchers and i am worried, really worried.

When this show first aired it was a breath of fresh air. A well-written,well-acted, well-directed, well-produced show. Interesting story lines brought from the past into the present. I noticed something going wrong when the writers and producers thought that the Moriarty storyline and the Mary storyline was becoming more prominent then the good old fashioned just solve a mystery story lines.

I for one do no not watch this show for the political intrigues or the is he dead or isn't he. I just want to watch a mystery being solved by Sherlock. I do no not want to see an actress play an mercenary when clearly the actress playing Mary could never ever be such a person.

I think this is the decline of the series alas. Why don't producers and writers just keep a good thing going but instead think they can reinvent the wheel? What do people love about Sherlock Holmes? His ability to be Sherlock Holmes.

This is obviously not a bad show, i loved the first 2 seasons, was not sure about the third and the fourth started badly for me

It baffles me
12 December 2016
When i came across this series on IMDb some time ago i put it on my watch list because it seemed like an interesting idea. What would happen to a country when all their leaders are taken out and some guy gets to become president.

This opens up all sorts of interesting plot lines, charachterstudies, intrigue and such. What did the producers of this show choose? Yet another one dimensional series with clichés left and right and no development in any of the characters. You have the "evil"chief. You have the "smart"wife, you have the romantic interest with the people who are in awe of the new president, and it just goes on and on.

The writers and producers have not a creative bone in their body. This show is going to be another flash forward. Interesting idea, poor execution

Below average movie with a story i was not interested in
22 September 2016
What is it in this day and age screenwriters and directors and studios want to make movies based on well loved stories and change everything you know about them? Is it ignorance, is it arrogance? I don't know.

What i do know is that this was a story that should not have been written and certainly not have been filmed. The story of Tarzan is wellknown and etched in many brains. I for one was not waiting for a total different telling of the story. But OK that is about the story.

Was the movie itself then worth watching, meaning, the direction, the production and the acting. For me in one word NO. On every level they tried too hard. The openingsequence does not say anything except, hey look at me i am trying to make a cool looking sequence. It does not add to the storytelling, this goes on throughout the whole movie.

The acting was at some points laughable, the lead was, in my opinion, totally miscast. Not for one moment did i believe he was Tarzan. The other characters had, as usual, only one dimension.

Even the CGI disappointed me.

I know it is difficult to make movies, based on welloved stories but this one missed the mark completely.

Irreversible (2002)

I found it unwatchable, not because of the topic but because of the camera-work
17 September 2016
As a movie it's not bad, acting is good and the story is heavy but relatable. What would you do? But for me i like to feel like i am not watching a movie but be immersed in the story, the camera-work made this totally impossible for me. Every second there is a weird camera angle forcing me to acknowledge that i am watching a movie. I truly do not understand why the filmmakers chose this style.

If you can look post weird and totally in your face camera movements this is a dark and heavy movie but i felt the total length of the movie that they tried to hard to make a movie that was different. I don't like that

Not anything new, couple of laughs, some clichés, but still entertaining
3 August 2016
Is this anything new? No it is not. We have seen this kind of movie before. Estranged father wants to win his family back by doing something stupid.

Is this well directed? No not really. Is this well acted? No not really. Has this a good story? No not really.

But.... and yes there is a but, at least for me. This movie actually made me laugh out loud a couple of times. Not many movies can say that. No this is not a great movie, like i said above.

I still think it is a quirky movie that is worth watching. Don't expect to much and just watch it

Wrong cast and mediocre script
24 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was so looking forward to this movie because i have read the books by Tom Rob Smith which this film is based on.

When i heard it was going to be produced by Ridley Scott i got even more excited. But when i heard that Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace were cast my excitement dwindled. Because in my head the characters didn't look anything like them when i read the books. But that isn't always a negative when finally seeing the film because they can surprise you.

Well they didn't. Tom Hardy is way too buff for this role and does not portray the inner turmoil the character has in the books. His face just looks always the same. Noomi Rapace was brilliant in the Millennium trilogy but has yet to convince me she can act in Hollywood movies.

So the acting didn't convince, so maybe the script saved it. No it did not. So many things that are essential in the story are just not in it. If you haven't read the book i presume it's very hard to grasp why certain decisions were made by the characters or why certain things happen.

So i think the cast is wrong, the script is not too good but i still give it a 6 out of 10. I think the direction was OK, the production was good and all in all it is not a bad film but i expected so much more.

Maybe they should have given a more experienced director this job.

The Blacklist (2013–2023)

Same mistakes as Alias
5 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I think the series is good, or at least the first season and the first half of the second season. The acting is good, the writing is good. Some of the ideas are original. I have enjoyed this series. But, and there is a big but....

The writers are grasping at straws, things that were 100% explained are suddenly not explained. Conspiracy after conspiracy, no it is this guy, no it is that guy. He is good, no he is bad. So many twists it is becoming hard to follow.

I really don't understand why writers and producers think that if a series like this gets another season you have to change everything about what people know. Intrigue upon intrigue. This is where i draw the comparison with Alias. That show started well enough, but in the 3rd season it was getting ridiculous. Conspirary within a conspiracy, within a conspiracy.

A good TV how IMO is not about twists and turns, it is about a good story and not about chancing the whole premise of the show in the last 2 episodes of a season.

Please let the writers be grounded in the real world for the next season. I like this show but i am afraid that it is going to be another alias

I'm into season 4 and it is getting ridiculous
8 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I have resisted viewing this show a long time just because of the title because i thought it was a Desperate Housewives thing. I can tell you that it's really not that.

As my title suggests, i am into season 4 now and i have to say it's getting on my nerves, i loved the first season, really liked the second season, liked the third season but the fourth season is getting out of control. Story lines that should have been ended are coming back, characters are introduced who have nothing to do with anything.

Plot lines are getting dragged out. It is as no one in Hollywood has learned the mistakes other series have made such as Alias and Lost. In my opinion, viewers don't watch a show because the plot lines Always twist, i think viewers want closure as well. Sometimes just stop it

Good film but misleading title
25 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
First of all this film is not really about Pablo Escobar, the story is told from the perspective of Nick (the boyfriend of Pablo's niece) and how he casually gets into Pablo's world.

That;s explains the misleading title but nevertheless i enjoyed this movie. Benicio Del Toro does a great job portraying Pablo Escobar. Josh Hutcherson isn't the best actor in the world but does a good job. After the first 15 minutes you get over hey that is the guy from The Hunger Games.

The story is not really that surprising: boy meets girl, is innocent and gradually gets sucked into a world that shocks him. About the fact that it is supposed to be a true story, the makes never say anything about that it is so it is just a story with a character that actually existed.

So is this a film you must see? No it isn't but i enjoyed it.

If you like a well-made film with above average acting and you can overlook some obvious storytelling tricks see it.

John Wick (2014)
8/10
Way way over the top... and i love it!!
13 January 2015
Let me start by saying this movie is not for everyone, it has a lot of violence and the story is very thin.

So why do i love it do you say? I grew up with the over the top movies of the 80's like Commando,Rambo and so on. I loved those when i was young, if i watch them now i can't make it further then 10 minutes but John Wick took me back to those times.

In recent years a lot of directors tried to make a movie like this and failed simply because they took themselves too seriously. John Wick just is what it is, a very violent movie without any pretense to being more. The direction is great, the production is great, the acting is good. It takes me back to the movies of my youth.

Of course this is isn't the best movie ever made, Michael Nyqvist shouldn't be in a Hollywood production in my opinion and what i don't like of the modern movies is the very obvious CGI wounds and blood, it is just not good and very distracting.

But i give this movie a solid 8, i really enjoyed it, don't expect too much just relax and watch it

Legends (2014–2015)
7/10
Entertaining but it has its flaws
11 January 2015
I just binge watched the first season and it's a solid 7 for me. It could have been an 8 or even a 9 if the writers did more research and did not try so hard to be the typical action show.

I like the idea of an agent going undercover and already has several undercover identities at the ready. The possibilities are endless and can go from subtle spy plots to disarming nuclear weapons on a remote island (just saying).

As most of these shows do there is a subplot, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, As an example that it does work i will say Person of Interest and The Blacklist, as an example it didn't work i will say Alias or Covert Affairs and yes even Lost because the subplot just gets so confusing you are wondering are those even people who can think like a normal person.

But back to Legends, i must say i like it up until now, the premise is good, the acting is solid, Sean Bean is outstanding (even with an American accent), but Tina Majorino, who has not a very big role, is for me the surprise addition to the cast, she is her character.

So i like this show which is not to say it doesn't has its flaws, it does, as with almost all tech in a show, cut corners, it's sometimes just not believable, for someone to make a history to make it believable so that the bad guys can check it, you just don't do that 10 minutes before the agent goes undercover and certainly you can't do that while being on a laptop and just clattering your fingers on a keyboard but OK i understand that the real process would be boring to watch.

Sometimes the subplot just vanishes for 20 minutes and then reappears and you're thinking but hey wasn't Sean Bean conflicted and in a mental mess but first let's take out the bad guys and then the mental mess comes back.

But despite that i do like this show and hope that the writing gets better and i will certainly watch the second season.

Messiah (2001)

Decent but not much more then that
10 January 2015
I decided to watch this based on the rating here and the positive reviews.

I don't agree with the high rating and the very positive reviews, while this is not a bad mini series it's nothing special either in my opinion. Some compare it to Se7en, that is absolutely not the case.

It is your average, run off the mill, cop vs serial killer scenario, without giving too much away of the plot i can say that it baffles me that the the connection wasn't made earlier (i did and nothing is given away). So i was watching this thinking there had to be another plot twist that i missed, i didn't.

Furthermore, the production is average, the acting is above average but what annoys me with these kind of series that there always has to be something wrong with the "hero". Either a drinking problem, separated, dead child or you name it. Why is that? In my opinion, if you have nothing to do an a rainy Sunday afternoon you can watch this but don't expect anything too much. They tried too hard.

Visually stunning
8 January 2015
Right after watching this movie i have already decided to watch this again (and again). The visuals are absolutely stunning and so creative.

I will not say too much about the story, you can read that in other reviews, except that it is a collage of Mexican folklore wrapped in a love story.

The animation is mind blowing, things that shouldn't work do work. For example the exaggerated physical features normally i don't like too much, but in this film they work.

The world that the director created is just amazing, in every shot there is so much to see.

For everyone that enjoys a good and fun story and loves animation you have to see this. I know i will be seeing it again

The Drop (2014)
3/10
Not worth your time
31 December 2014
Normally i don't argue with the rating a movie gets on here because some will like a movie and some don't.

But how in the name of everything that is movieloving does this film get a rating of 7.4. Nothing happens in this film. Tom Hardy acts like he is 3 years old. James Gandolfini just does what he does. Noomi Rapace is not believable as whatever the hell she was supposed to be.

When the movie starts you're thinking okay this is gonna be heistmovie, 10 minutes later you're thinking ow this is gonna be a drama, 20 minutes in you're thinking this gonna be a whodunnit or revengemovie and an hour in you're thinking oh my god how am i ever going to get this hour back? Nothing that happened in the movie made me feel with any of the characters, i just didn't care what happened to them.

In my opinion don't waste your time on this. I gave it a three only because there a even worse movies out there
