ShakespeaRe-Told: Macbeth (2005)
Season 1, Episode 2

Amazing!
25 December 2006
All I can say after watching this is "Wow." I watched it two nights in a row and I still feel that I have more to take in. Everything is masterfully done, the acting, direction, everything. A large part, in fact the largest, is definitely the casting of Macbeth as well as Lady Macbeth; they are fantastic..!! James McAvoy's performance was one of the strongest I have seen from any actor in a long while. There were a few scenes of his in particular that had me absolutely riveted. Keeley Hawes is incredible as well (to be honest I'd never seen her in anything before this, but she was absolutely perfect!); I believed that they were those characters. Even the fact that the dialogue was "updated", if you will, did not bother me (something that usually does). It's refreshing to see a Shakespeare adaptation that hasn't been dumbed down. If you're a fan of Macbeth this is definitely worth seeing. 10 out of 10.

Incredible Suspense Movie
27 July 2005
This is definitely the only suspense movie I've seen that actually had me on the edge of my seat biting my nails (As promised on the back of the DVD). I never knew what to expect, and the fact that this is in real time, and that they don't show the time too often, only adds to the suspense. It's a shame that this movie didn't do well at the box office, it really is incredible. The story is actually believable, the directing fits the story so well, and the cast is simply incredible. I never knew what Christopher Walken would do next, or who was in on the conspiracy. The little "reveal", if it could even be considered one, is predictable, but handled so well that you don't even notice, or care. Nick of Time went above and beyond all the expectations I had before watching it. This is without a doubt the best movie in the suspense genre. 10/10

~The Candy Man Can, and does in the best movie to come around in a long time~
16 July 2005
I'll admit it. Before seeing this movie I was nervous. Even during the car ride to the IMAX theater, I was saying, "I hope this is good..."..And WOW~! This movie has something for EVERYONE! And it is 100% completely appropriate for little children. Since this one stuck much closer to the book I think it will have more to offer for kids. The songs are funny and original (Danny Elfman composed the music, keeping Dahl's original lyrics), Depp shines as the odd candy creator (It's like Gene Wilder said, his performance is indeed magical), and never, NEVER comes off like MJ at ALL. And, despite some comments, the back-story only adds more heart to the movie, giving you a deeper connection with his character, and, it does explain why his is so odd. Not once did I think of the '71 movie. And, sorry for purist fans of that one, but every comment I heard someone make coming out of the theater was about how incredible it was, and how it was even better than the original. The sets are gorgeous, and the little effects they used blended in superbly. The children and the actors who play their parents also shine. Each one is perfectly cast, and really helps to bring the character to life. Freddie Highmore is truly adorable in this movie, and brings more warmth than any character. The script is perfect, there are many funny moments, and the movie itself is wonderfully tongue-in-cheek, never taking itself too seriously. The ending was very touching as well. Every aspect of this movie is incredible. It went above and beyond every expectation I had. If you were having any doubts, please, just go and see it. You will not be disappointed. 10/10

Don't believe the "buzz"
24 April 2005
(This post contains spoilers, so don't scroll down too far too quickly if you don't want to know what happens) I, being a huge Lucy Lawless fan, could not wait to see this movie. My dad and I sat through the entire 2 hours, which feels more like 4, the entire time thinking and saying "This is so unbelievable..!!", at one point my dad even said that she (Lucy Lawless) must have owed someone a favor..That's how surprised we were that she would be doing something like this. The plot is hard to believe (This coming from someone who couldn't believe more strongly in suspension of disbelief) and it seems the characters overreact, getting the government involved so early on? Their first result using nerve gas that was originally for the war in Iraq? I tried so hard to like this movie, but the final straw was..**SPOILER SPOILER**

When the man who created the locusts is helping Maddy get fuel for their solution, and is KILLED by the locusts..Now, I could see if he staggered in COVERED by them and bleeding to death barely able to walk, but he appeared to only have a swollen eye and cuts on his face. Granted his face was beaten up, I didn't think that an injury like that could kill someone...All in all the only reason to watch this movie would be to see Lucy. She is an incredible actress, but sadly, even she could not save this movie.
