A Forgotten Gem.
4 October 2022
Directed by the late Jacques Deray, this forgotten movie is up there with the director's best work. Maybe not in the same league with "La Piscine" and "Flic Story", but on the same level with one of my favorites, "Trois Hommes Abattre".

The movie was a flop when it came out because dealing with terrorism it coincided with a string of terrorist attacks in France and because the french crime thriller ("le polar") was becoming out of fashion. But it's a great film with a superb performance by the wonderful Yves Montand, one of is last.

There is only a french DVD without any subtitles and it's very hard to find online. Hope some day it'll came out on BLU Ray.

A forgotten gem. One of the last great "polars".

There are some movies that for some unexplainable reason you just keep coming back to. "The Wild Geese" and "The Eagle Has Landed" are two such films. They're just so d... enoyable.

Burt Kennedy's best
1 May 2022
This movie is ready for a reappraisal.

Written by Clair Huffaker and produced by Dino de Laurentis in 1970 it's clearly inspired by "men on a mission" films like "The Professionals" or "Dirty Dozen".

It's a tough and uncrompromising piece of work, without any of the comedy so commmon in Burt Kennedy's other movies, and all the better for it. Great cast and never mind some comments: Bekim Fehmiu os perfect in the lead role.

Well worth a watch. Unfortunately you can't find a decent copy on Blu Ray, DVD or online.

Burt Kennedy's best.

A little known movie that deserves much better.
4 September 2016
This a forgotten gem. The term "heist movie" should have been created for pictures like this one. A little known director hitting all the right notes, a great screenplay and a great cast (Stanley Baker is a favorite of mine). The movie is the heist, no prologue required; the characters are defined by the action (just brief dialogue to tell us something about the past of Stanley Baker and Helmut Schmid). The film grabs the viewer from the first scene, and never lets go. A nail bitter all the way. The ending is a Knock out; this one really ends with a bang. Today action directors should watch this movie. Maybe they would learn something.
