Come on, wasn't all that bad...
17 September 2005
The movie perhaps wasn't all that brilliant, but it wasn't all that bad after all...

It was actually fun.

Fun to see Collin Firth making fun of himself, also Oliver Platt being pathetic as the head of the city of Hope...

The chemistry was there. The script wasn't just superb, but the actors make it up to you.

It's a change from the Briget Jones's Diary, where Firth has to compete with Grant to get a girl. The girls are competing with each other to get him for a change.

I've enjoyed it. So has my wife.

Good to watch on DVD on a late evening. It'll cheer you up.

Best Til Schweiger movie ever and an excellent love story...
26 May 2005
I didn't have so much fun watching a love comedy for a long time (maybe after "When Harry met Sally") as this film has it all: very interesting plot, excellent and funny dialogs and scenes, top-notch acting and... this "something", this thing that makes it a film you want to watch several times and you're never bored with.

Til Schweiger is at his best (OK, I am a Til Schweiger fan, but in this one he's just awesome), Johanna Wokalek is sooo charming that it's just a pleasure to watch her.

I'm normally not writing just positives about a movie... but this one has simply bought me - I've enjoyed it so much that I can't find anything that distracted me from one of the best movie experiences ever.

If you live outside of Germany (like I do), either on your visit to this country get yourself a ticket in a movie theater (like I did), or just wait for it on DVD. This one's worth it.

Not as easy to guess as one might think...

Warning: Spoilers
After watching the first 15 minutes of the movie you think you know it all... and then the fun part starts that keeps you involved until the end...

I was surprised by this movie - at first I thought this would be a simple but entertaining action thriller... but it wasn't that simple after all... and kept me watching it at 100% until the very end.

Juliane Moore is good as always, the rest of the cast does a good job too. If you need an action film after a so-so day, choose this one, and you will be entertained! P.S. Be prepared for some really exceptional action scenes and a really good soundtrack :-) Recommended at 8/10

Been there already, seen that already...
7 August 2004
I'm in love with Keira Knightley and liked the performance of Clive Owen in the Hire BMW movies... so this has been the most expected movie of this summer for me... ...and it failed to deliver... failed to deliver BIG time...

The movie is simply a boring compilation of the Lord of the Rings and Braveheart... and yes... we've already seen this kind of battles (made a lot better), we've seen people cry for freedom (a lot better in Braveheart), we've seen the love plots (a lot better...) - so to cut the long story short - we've seen it all, and a lot better made... so why compile all that, why not even try to make a good movie, and why lure me with Keira so that I actually go and see it?

I give it 4/10 just because Keira's there... although her performance was much better in "the Pirates..."

Don't make my mistake and don't hope for the blockbuster of the summer'04... and even if you love Keira... this film is still not worth it.

Potential wasted...
25 July 2004
OK, there was something deeper in this movie... The performances were not that bad... but the movie wasn't funny.

I'm not American, I'm from Europe... maybe it's just us that we don't quite enjoy the stupid scary-movie-style comedy, where the humor is simply gross not intelligent. Simple and gross.

This movie had some nice ideas, had some deeper meaning, but the potential has been wasted by a script that actually was trying to make me laugh with stupid situations and dialogs already seen in other average movies.

If you have too much time, you can watch it. Otherwise go see something else... there are better romantic comedies this year (like "Girl Next Door" for instance).

4/10 (just because I believe there was some deeper meaning)

Funny, Intelligent... and sexy!
25 July 2004
Wow! At last a REAL comedy, REAL intelligent script, REALly good acting... and everything in a highly erotic atmosphere...

After so many comedies with stars acting in lousy movies just to get their money and make fools out of us (and we keep on paying for the tickets...), this one is just TOTALLY CONTRARY.

This film has it all: comedy (real laughs, not some cheap Scary-Movie style), suspense (yes, the plot keeps on changing and is not as predictable as it normally should be), good acting (no stars, but the performances are really cool) and erotism (I'm a man, so I just can't neglect the fact that Danielle - Elisha Cuthbert was SOOOO sexy in this one, not mentioning other females there...).

If you're tired of cheap comedies and predictable scripts... if you want to see something new, refreshing, sexy and really laughable.. go see this one - you'll definitely enjoy the ride!

I did and I'm gonna see it again :-)

Surprisingly entertaining...
18 June 2004
No, this movie wasn't perfect... but as I expected another "Deep Impact"-style film, or some other stupid "we-re-all-gonna-die" movie, I was very positively surprised to really kinda like this one.

The story is quite believable and the scenario convincing. I'm not a scientist, but the whole idea behind the "day after tomorrow" seemed really interesting and most of all, good material for a film. Acting is OK (especially Dennis Quaid is well casted) and the whole action (you actually have no time to rest and yawn with this one, there is something thrilling happening basically all the time) and effects more than impressive! It's not like it's one of my all-time-favorites... but yes, I enjoyed it a lot.

If you need some entertainment, just gather a bunch of friends and go to see this one - you're not gonna be disappointed. Expect some really good action, very fine effects... and most of all: really good time :-)
