Halodhia Choraye Baodhan Khai (1987)
A must match for Indian movie lovers
This movie brilliantly depicts the struggle of a farmer in Assam when his land has been illegally captures by a zamindar. The director,Jahnu Barua has done a commendable job in bringing out the social issues prevailing in the villages of Assam at that time, which can be generalized and related to any village of India. He beautifully brings out the poignant emotions which leaves a lasting impression on the viewer. The ending of the movie is what makes this movie one of his best works in my opinion (though I would confess to have seen very few of his films). Overall, I would say that this movie is a gem of not just Assamese cinema but also Indian Cinema. 9.5/10
Ankhon Dekhi (2013)
Wonderful and deeply thoughtful
This is easily Rajat Kapoor's best film. The film, through the world of Bauji (Sanjay Mishra), asks you to live your life in the manner you wish to wish and stop heeding to dictatorship/acquiescence calls(depends on your perception) of this world..Go out, find the truth yourself...The film also touches the social aspects of our lives(eg joint family issues), but in no way the central motto of the film is compromised due to that.. The director does a commendable work of being completely neutral and not taking any sides, not showing anything as right or wrong. It is MUST WATCH for realistic film followers. This film goes to show the power Indian Cinema possesses. Surprised and humbled by this power. Hats off to Rajat Kapoor et al.
PS:- The end is the best part, the tip of the iceberg, the culmination of the exact point the director is trying to make through this film
Citizen Kane (1941)
Truly deserves to be the best film of all time
I had watched this film 3 years ago n still could not figure out as to how it is the best film in the world, until day before yesterday. A film that can explain the entire film in just one shot, and that shot addressing so many dimensions is something I had not seen often to this age, let alone 1941!!!Truly goes to show the amazing vision of the director. One shot not only solving the mystery but also giving us a deeper insight into the inner problems of Mr Kane and what he was actually striving for life, in the process revealing the intricate hidden subtleties that one fails to recognize and see in our own lives!! Truly shows the supreme control of the director on the film who is confident of his skills. A perfect exemplification of the power of final cut privilege in cinema. I rated it 9 as no film can be perfect in every aspect!!!
