Creepypasta (2023)
2/10
Channel Zero sans spirit
30 December 2023
It's disappointing when adaptations like this stray from the essence of classic creepypastas. There's already a GREAT anthology of creepypastas and it's called Channel Zero. The original stories had intricate narratives and psychological depth so I have no idea why someone (several someones) thought they could use the namesake Creepypasta for something as dull as video after video of overcooked jumpscares and dragging victims into the darkness. Maybe one or two of the vignettes was fine (the flashlight one comes to mind) but even then I would not recommend this to anyone who came for the pasta. I don't think a single one of these was based on a real classic creepy pasta. If they really wanted to use "Creepypasta" they really should have leaned the other way and made "who was phone" and stories of that ilk.

Unsatisfying
7 March 2023
All the tiktok and instagram videos hyped it so hard and then when you finally get to watch it, it's just one disappointing ending after another. Each story idea is good but then they are all told in a rush and you're left thinking "ok maybe the next one is worth it" and it isn't. Perhaps the only ones that are just fine are "Tunnel" "Necromancy" and "A Mannequin". Maybe I'm missing something but all the other ones are either so unclear or so missing the mark on originality that they fall short. I was really hoping for one to get me like "WHOA what a great story" but it was just kinda... wack.

Not that bad!
18 January 2022
I hesitated to watch this because the reviews but this is actually not that bad. It's not a masterpiece but it's a really cute comedy with a bit of a Rashomon what-if scenario. Many things go wrong but many things go right as well and the characters are all interesting enough to make you hope for more and you really end up rooting for them. Everyone can relate to one of the wedding's many guests and it's a short enough movie to have a light evening of fluff.

Awkward
2 January 2022
When you see the opening scene, you would swear you accidentally put on an old porno. The lighting is strange, the ambient sound doesn't exist, and the acting is stiff. This continues on with a really awkward storyline that never really draws you in quite enough to be immersed. You're painfully aware you're watching a movie and most of it is does not feature Tiffany Haddish. The turns in the movie are simultaneously expected but also razor sharp. Your medical bills from the whiplash you get from the sudden twists with no leadups will bankrupt you. Every character and every scene is a caricature of a caricature of a stereotype. Has anyone involved in this movie ever been to a dinner party? Had weed? Hung out with friends? Been to bars? All signs point to no. Good thing this movie is short.

Fresh Meat: Jeffrey Dahmer (2021 TV Movie)
6/10
Zebrowski wasn't even allowed to do characters
14 December 2021
This is a high level documentary about things you knew about Dahmer. Enthusiasts will quickly note the lack of relevant details: Dahmer acting out his mother's seizures, hamming it up in class to get attention, his offerings of meat to neighbors who still aren't quite sure what they got, etc. And then for some reason this documentary has a B-story of other random other killers who may or may not have eaten people. So every few bullet points in the Dahmer timeline, you'll be treated to an even higher level quick run through of different crimes and will have learned next to nothing about them before the documentary gives you whiplash by loosely relating them to Dahmer. Throughout the witness interviews, you also get to listen to podcasters recount some facts about Dahmer but they aren't allowed to be entertaining. Their talents in making the macabre somewhat palatable is directed and edited away so you don't even get a little levity while hearing about murders. Don't watch this to learn anything. Watch it cuz Henry says, "That's when the cannibalism started."

Gaslighting: The Movie
14 December 2021
The whole plot was a little hard to wrap my head around. I think there are plot holes that are never really explained but the "entertainment" of seeing the main character move through this trauma of no one ever believing her is intense. I believed her the whole time and wondered how she would make it through and the conclusion of it all wasn't as satisfying as the director probably hoped.

Movie was bad but...
21 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That defibrillator fakeout was funny as hell. And the SciFi old school bad CGI and greenscreen nonsense was painful but we all knew what we were getting into.

Tom Skerritt's yelling saves William Shatner
5 October 2021
A third of the movie is just people melting but it's got a good twist ending that kinda saved it from being terrible.
