Charade (1963)
Excellent...
...is the only word that I can think of right now. I loved this movie, the plot, the characters, the actors, and all the little plot twists--I loved the witty banter between Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant especially. Charade mixes mystery, comedy, and romance with just the right amounts, and it makes for a splendidly done and thoroughly enjoyable movie. (Then again, anything with Cary Grant has got to be brilliant, in my opinion.) The ending was unexpected as well (it was a possibility for me, but I never thought it'd really be ----). Too bad they don't make them like this anymore.
Please don't even get me started on that cringe-worthy remake with Mark Wahlberg. It's a total disgrace to this wonderful film.
Plots with a View (2002)
"The root word of funeral is 'fun'"
And fun this movie is. I saw this on Cinemax a few months ago, and it wasn't so bad. As another reviewer said, it just has its moments, but those moments are pure gold (better than the tripe Americans usually churn out and call "comedy"). It's not a terrific film, but as something to watch on the tube, it's perfect. Alfred Molina and Brenda Blethlyn deliver good performances, but my favorite has to be Christopher Walken as Featherbed, the whacko American with his Star Trek and other themed funerals (although I don't know what he's doing in Wales).
Overall, it's a solid (albeit rather predictable) comedy.
