La templanza (2021)
Wonderful Interesting Story
The Vineyard is a series that really is exceptional at keeping your interest and making you want to go on and watch another episode when you really need to stop. I actually watched it all in three days which may seem like a lot to some people, but is far beyond my usual pace.
I thoroughly enjoyed the drama, adventure, and how so many lives are always affected by others. The beauty of the scenery and the lovely visuals of the time enchants the mind and you quickly fall in love with the story being told.
This production was originally in Spanish so the American version converted to English has a few faults that you totally recognize, but can get past because of the wonderful advancing plot.
The English dubbing sounds way to much like a bad 1970's karate movie with the high pitched voices and dull delivered dialogue. At least the speaking is in sync with the words being spoken and you don't have to see the mouth move then the words like some English dubbed movies.
Some of the lines are a little corny and ridiculous and as I mentioned above are spoken in a weird abnormal way. Still this is a tremendous story of two people never destined to meet that cross paths finally through their dealings with so many other people in their lives.
The villains are quite sneaky and mean and it pushes our heroes to limits that they probably would've never thought they would be capable of. As in real life money is always the thing that makes people do crazy things.
The story is awesome if not for the poor dubbing I would give it a ten.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Story With No End
I found this movie engaging with some interesting parts and scenes. The problem is after watching for two hours you are no better off than when you started. The movie offers you real time dramatics and ends with no conclusion as to what happened to anyone. This is one where you are enlisted to write your own ending and results as to what happened to the main characters and humanity in general. I found the movie to be interesting and building in your interest. In the end well there is no end you are left to your own imagination. So will life still be here on Earth in 2049 you won't find out here.
Uncut Gems (2019)
A Two Hour Plus Cussatron
I saw the ratings decided to watch this movie. I guess the movie has some value as a warning and insight into a person that couldn't control his gambling and in result ruined everything he had built in his life. The character Sandler portrays is a very unlikeable person that you wouldn't want to have as a friend or be around on a daily basis. The fact that he is a cursing machine really gets tiring as could he say a sentence without a curse word being muttered answer no.
The final verdict is I didn't like the movie because I actually have to like a character or two when I watch a film and well there wasn't anyone to like in this move. Even Kevin Garnet playing himself came off as a self centered person that wanted everything his own way. I guess something like this has certainly happened to someone in real life and I feel for them, but it does not entertain me.
In the end I guess everyone got what you would expect the ultimate of winning big totally shattered in a moment.
Outer Banks (2020)
Outer Banks Is Fun and Exciting
I went into this series not really thinking it would be for me because of what the story line was about and what I'd read. This just goes to show that you should never prejudge anything until you actually experience it. The series gives you everything you need to be entertained. I wasn't planning on watching it in just a couple of days, but episode after episode I just had to keep going. You really love all the characters in the group John B the leader to the ultimate misfit JJ. These are people you would've loved to hang out with as a teenager because they are the ultimate in friendship and trust.
The series gives you mystery, excitement, situations that look like our heroes can't possibly get out of alive or without consequences. A series like this is always great to me when you really like the main characters and I really loved these guys and girl. I highly recommend you give this series a shot think most will find it an interesting and entertaining ride.
Rectify (2013)
Unsatisfactory Ending To a great Production
Rectify is a series that is compelling and very interesting certainly holds your interest. I had a huge problem letting it go until the next day watching episode after episode until yes I had watched all 21 plus hours of this series in only four days.
The series will pull you emotionally in almost every way imaginable to intense anger to intense joy. Daniel Holden's character could've been played with a little more energy and a little more defiance of what he had been through. I don't think I could be so mild mannered and gentle if I had been through 19 years of torture for a crime I did not commit. This is my take even though we never find out 100 percent for sure if he committed the crime or not. There is strong evidence that he did not and even a new investigation and a lot of compelling evidence against other people yet never total vindication of the lead character.
This is along with some other unanswered questions as to why I didn't give the series a higher rating. I like a lot more answers than I received and leaving so much to the imagination is hard to digest even if you draw your own conclusion that he was totally exonerated and that the real killer was put in the exact same cell that Daniel occupied for 19 years.
I would've liked to have seen all this in the last episode. The real killer identified and handcuffed tried and taken off the prison. The Senator that was so hateful and easy to despise totally ruined by the press and the public. Daniel's charges totally dropped and cleared and we see him with a totally new life of his choosing not dreaming in a halfway house.
I know what I am asking for is answers to all the questions every last one even how each and every family member ends up. I like answers to everything just the way I am. For every human being there is a beginning and an end to every action that happens to them. So getting answers and solutions to everything we viewed for three seasons and 7 additional episodes does not seem like to much to ask or maybe it is however that is the way I roll.
Regardless of what I wanted and didn't get the series is well worth seeing and it was very entertaining and moving. I enjoyed it and even recommend it, but if you are a person that likes all the answers and needs solutions get ready to be a little disappointed at what you get in the end.
Sneaky Pete (2015)
The Sneaky Man is Awesome
I saw the title and thought this show is not gonna be much still decided to watch the first episode. Wow am I glad I did what a great series and every season just as great as the other. Pete will steal you blind still he has some moral values that make him really attractive throughout the series.
The family he infiltrates has plenty of moral problems and family secrets as well. Even though most of them are likable for the most part all have a dark side that comes to the forefront when any of them get into trouble.
I want go into the series and what it is about as it is a really fast moving changing with every episode plot with danger and trouble at every turn. I could not get enough from the first episode through what will be the final episode of season three the series never disappointed and always had me wanting for more. The fact that Amazon cancelled this series after three seasons is amazing to me. I guess it had to do with money as the show is outstanding, well acted and will definitely be missed.
Goliath (2016)
Lawyer with lots of vices.
Billy Bob Thornton stars as a down and out attorney that has many vices is mainly a drunk and this really affects his life with his daughter and all the people that surround him. Even with all his vices and human failings he has a conscience and well embedded morals that force him to take cases and help people that most Lawyers wouldn't take.
Season one is fabulous from beginning to end this season is one where episode after episode you just get farther pulled in and eager to move on to the final. Season two not so great really a let down after a great season one. Season two is watchable, but it really disappoints with the ending and was really a huge fall off from season one.
I personally thought season two would kill the show, but maybe they can save season two with the upcoming season three. I have no idea what it is gonna be about and of course I will be watching. I am hoping that it will help us make some sense out of season two. If not well I can still enjoy the antics of Billy Bob for another season nothing about his acting that hasn't been perfectly done even if the season two scripts really went off the deep end. The series gets a ten for season one and falls to a seven for season two. Overall I'll go nine for both as I like Billy Bob.
Mindhunter (2017)
Inside the minds of Serial Killers.
I found this show quite fascinating and interesting to watch. The FBI agents one young and totally captivated by mass murderers and the older more experienced that views it only as a job and does not get near as much involved as his younger partner.
The acting is outstanding from the main characters down to the portrayal of the serial killers some really fine casting. Season one was thrilling every episode kept me locked to the screen as we make our rounds and observations and the unfortunate encounter of one agent will a serial killer at the end of season one.
Season two is quite well done also although it focuses mainly on the Atlanta child murders in the later episodes. I think the most annoying part of season two to me was the subplot that we have to endure which I think kind of bogs down the episodes of season two. I could definitely lived without the subplot that was developed in this second season.
Overall this is a fabulous series with lots of interesting moments and thrilling action. I am looking forward to season three hoping we can move away from any subplots and focus mainly on the serial killer interviews and the ones still at large that the FBI is pursuing.
When They See Us (2019)
Fabulous In Everyway
The story of the Central Park five is brought to the screen in astounding realism and very effective portrayals by the actors. One of the all time malfunctions of our justice system could not be any better acted, directed, or produced. This four part mini-series will bring out many emotions as you witness what happened to these five young men victims of a system that was willing to rush to judgement even though the evidence was not there. JMO this is one of Netflix best series of all time really hits home because it is true and makes you realize how imperfect anything in this world can be.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)
A Netflix Classic
Since their beginning we have seen the good and bad from Netflix. This time Netflix got it right with their original movie The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. From start to finish this feature is an entertainment delight of terrific acting, tremendous directing and fabulous scenery.
I admit you really have to pay attention as sometimes the dialogue is hard to follow and you could certainly miss something very valuable to the story being told. However when you make it through you have been on a journey that will enlighten and stimulate the senses to a high that will make you feel the ultimate exhilaration, but also some sadness that the movie is over.
The final scenes brought tears to my eyes and this very seldom happens to me with a movie. All I can say is Netflix we need more movies from you like this one. This was pure genius from beginning to end and of course I will have to watch it least one more time. Seldom have I felt so much joy from a movie thanks to the actors and all involved in creating this gem for me to enjoy.
The Defenders (2017)
Doing Less with more.
I was in high anticipation of this series thought it had to be a winner so many ways this could have been awesome. After watching the first episode totally left me numb and still debating whether to watch anymore. You would think the first episode would be outstanding and set you up for something great in the coming episodes. The first episode is totally flat and really failed to gain any interesting from me. I may need to watch another episode, but if it is anything like the first I don't know if I can stand the pain.
Bloodline (2015)
Terrific Drama and Suspense
I'm not usually one who likes to get caught up in a series that is a continuation and runs for 33 episodes. I watched the first episode and then was totally hooked and there was no way I could ever leave without going all the way to the last.
The first season is an amazing 13 episodes of perfect drama and suspense as the story of this family highly regarded in their community in the glades of Florida has a past of lies, murder, and deceit that they all hide and protect above anything else in their lives. Before any children were ever born we learn later in the series that the father and mother had already done some horrible things to get to their present status in life.
Everything seems to be going well until a chain of events to where a favored child a daughter drowns while with an older brother causes a chain of events where there is a beating and a cover up that has been protected many years later.
The children now adults have moved on to wonderful lives of their own, but what happened when they were children is a guilt that will never go away. The series moves through one mishap after another with the family always getting deeper and deeper into lies, murder and criminal activity.
Be aware that this series is over no more episodes with season three far less satisfying than the first two and you having to draw many conclusions for yourself as to what the ending should be to your own satisfaction.
When we get to the final episode this family has escaped prosecution on every crime they have committed. Seems that John the police detective has decided to come clean or has he? He does confess to the Sheriff about the crimes, but amazingly the Sheriff doesn't want to hear any of it as he is leaving the area for a new job. Seems that having escaped prosecution again John has set up his younger brother Kevin to take a fall for the drug activities he was involved in convincing him to run for Cuba knowing he could still be picked up and prosecuted.
Finally he may confess to the son of the brother he killed, but it is left to the imagination as to whether he does this or not. My take was that he doesn't come clean as I don't think it is in the DNA for any Rayburn to ever make that choice completely.
