Just Go See It
8 April 2007
It's Rodriguez and Tarantino combining their talents. What the Hell else do you need to know? Both films are entertaining and will keep you abuzz for hours afterward. I must admit, however, that "Death Proof" does move slow at first, but believe me, it is worth the sit. Last, but not least, are the trailers. They will unquestionably remind those who were teenagers when vcr's first arrived, of the cornball horror flicks you'd find in the extra-extra large boxes on the top shelf of the local convenience store rental section. By all means, this movie should not be missed. In my humble opinion, this is some of Tarantino's finest work since Pulp Fiction and, as usual, his soundtrack selection is spectacular!

Not the Worst , But Not Without Effort.
4 September 2006
Being a huge fan of the original film, I was suspect of this remake. However, it is a cool plot, Nick Cage and Ellen Burstyn seemed suitable for their respected roles, and maybe it would spark an interest in a new audience to check out the original, so I gave this film the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, none of the above was accurate.

The plot is slightly different, but every actor and actress in this film was mediocre at best. Cage and Burstyn were stale. Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee should be insulted. In fact the whole film looks like it was done in one take! Finally, if Kate Beahan does not win a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Supporting Actress, it shall be deemed the biggest injustice in cinematic history! So for those who are curious to see The Wicker Man, please heed this advice: Avoid the theatre and rent the original (try to find the extended version, though rare to locate). It has a superior cast and, quite simply, is miles upon miles more intense and disturbing than the remake could possibly try to be.

Invincible (2006)

Watchable Flick
26 August 2006
Bottom Line: Same premise of Miracle, only involving a local guy making the football big-time on the longest of shots. Above adequate performances by Wahlberg and Kinnear make this an entertaining picture. You can almost say it has a slight Rocky flavor, as well. Not only because it is based in Philadelphia, PA, but the story of an underdog reaching for the stars. Thing is, you're guaranteed not to see a Invincible 5. (or is it going to be 6 soon?)

If you grew up a football fan in the late 1970's, you will enjoy the nostalgia of the mention of the big names from that era.

Although a Disney film, I feel Invincible is targeted for the male crowd age 12 - 100.

Stale CG Remake
13 April 2006
Unrealistic CG work; ridiculous scenarios. How human beings can be atop such a large building with no breeze hitting them is beyond comprehension. My 11 year old son begged us to leave the theatre not even midway through this 3 hour computerized debacle! The Kong in the 1976 remake is more realistic than this insult. The acting seemed quite vanilla. However, Jack Black's part of Carl Denham is enjoyable, but not as deliciously sinister as Charles Grodin's role of Fred Wilson in the 1976 remake.

Although it's meant for pure escapism, save your money or spend it on renting the original or, again, the 1976 remake. Better yet, save the dough for when Hollywood produces something original.

Comedy Pioneers Unite and Don't Dissappoint !
7 April 2006
Long story short, we will never, ever see such an ensemble of comedic talent in one movie like this again. This cast were the pioneers of comedy going back to the days of Vaudeville. Do yourselves a favor and see this film! The premise of Mad World is a group of motorists, en route to various locations, stop to help a man who "sails" his car over a cliff. Once they arrive to assist the poor man, the motorists are informed by him that there is a fortune in cash buried at a park some 200 miles away. The man then literally "kicks the bucket". After the police show up and ask questions, the race is on for the loot, with the number of participants and shtick increasing along the way.

Again, this is a comedy classic which should be seen by all ages!

Is that your motor? I thought so.

If you are a fan of Pierce Brosnan, you'll love this film. If you are not a fan, it's still worth the rental. You can actually say it is one of those movies that is so bad that it is good. Brosnan plays a kick ass and take names debt collector who gets involved in fighting a crooked chemical plant that the residents of an Irish neighborhood oppose. Granted, the acting is sub-par, but it is very entertaining. In fact, a friend and I made a drinking game out of the flick! Whenever someone in the film says "Taffin", you take a drink. The best line is the one mentioned as my summary. Also look for a cameo by the late, great Dermot Morgan (BBC's Father Ted) as stand-up comedian Mickey Guest.
