Disney finally produces a good movie
20 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I did not see this movie until 2019 because of the over-hype, over-rated, over praised. This is a good movie that Disney has finally produced in a long time. Good CGI effects and music and good singing. I like the ensemble of the principle cast: Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad. The storyline plot is classic and stills persists in 2019 era of family and love. Blood is thicker than water. I enjoyed Idina Menzel's singing for the signature song "Let It Go" as she has great vocals coming from a Broadway background. Childhood innocence for Olaf is what binds Elsa and Anna together as adults.

The Fall Of Senator Ted Kennedy
20 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This documentary shed some truth and actual account of what happened between Friday, July 18, 1969 through Saturday, July 19, 1969. In the end Senator Kennedy finally admitted to accept accountability of his negligence for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. Better late than never for accepting accountability. Why did he leave the scene of a accident with a passenger injured as he was the driver? Where was Rose Kennedy, matriarch of the Kennedy family (Kennedy's mother)? Rose Kennedy was alive in 1969 and Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (both matriarch and patriarch). This movie only shows Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., patriarch of the Kennedy family. Where are the remaining living Kennedy siblings? The Kennedy family is known to be very close have good familial relation ties for encouragement and support. What were Senator Kennedy ulterior motives after driving to Chappaquiddick Island? Where was he going to take Mary Jo Kopechne? What was he going to do to Kopechne after he arrived at his planned destination? Extra marital affair? What was he thinking about not reporting the accident to the police immediately? There is Edgartown Fire Department - Chappaquiddick Station on Chappaquiddick Road which intersects Dike Road which he can seek help here for first respondents. He was not sincere nor displayed genuine sympathy to the public or remorse to the Kopechne family. This is a great tragedy. Mary Jo Kopechne was full of promises of a good future as she worked hard with integrity and great ambition. What about Kopechne? Does the Kennedy legal and political team consider her? Why did the Kopechne family not legally fight Ted Kennedy? Why was the body not exhumed?

The outcome of the court trial was Kennedy's driver's license suspended 16 months. There is a dead body! The result should be jail for Kennedy! A white man with political power and privileged as a senator and whose family has a long history of political status with money can buy good lawyers to get you out of jail. There is no justice. He used his father's political and legal contacts and resources to have the best legal team to cover-up, evade, and scandal to avoid prison. Kennedy's legal team controlled the aftermath of the accident including speeding the signing of the death certificate without an autopsy or pending investigation. Why was the body exhumed? This is obvious wrongdoing and he did not serve any jail time. Did he think about his consequences of his actions that contributed to the death of Mary Jo Kopechne? What about her family? Unanswered questions. Where is the truth? Sadly, this negligence affected significantly his chances to run for president of U.S. as the American public was dismayed and more unanswered questions. The public will not forgive but may forget which certainly affects any future presidential candidate. Does this mean people with money, socialite, aristocratic, privileged or political and legal contact resources evade the criminal system of any crime(s) for wrongdoings? Abusing political power. Privilege, Power, Tragedy. The fall of Ted Kennedy. Why are people with money, power and privilege untouchable? Teflon Kennedy. Why do people suppress the truth for personal gain? How does Kennedy live with himself with the aftermath? What about guilt and his consequences? His actions were despicable, nefarious. Why cover-up the situation to think the situation will go away? Reporting the scene of the crime as soon as possible, despite of a tragic accident, is better than not reporting it at all. The longer one delays to notify the police of the incident the longer the situation gets worse and possible death. Kopechne would have been alive if Kennedy reported to the police as soon as it happened rather than waited hours later, in theory.

I find Jason Clarke's portrayal of Senator Ted Kennedy brilliant. I never knew that he is an Australian actor as he mimicked the American accent flawlessly. Whoa! I did not know that an Australian actor is playing the leading role as Ted Kennedy. He actually looks like Ted Kennedy in 1969 despite the film was released in 2017.

Herbie is back
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I am always enamored with Herbie and the original owner/driver Dean Jones. Thirty seven (37) years later from the original debut film The Love Bug 1968 and now this new film in 2005 era Herbie makes a comeback from the junk yard. He portrays more emotion than previously and is very sensitive to insults and negative comments from strangers especially competitor arrogant drivers Trip Murphy (Matt Dillon). He bends to the owner's personality at will such as Maggie who skate boards and uses skate board tactics in driving on guard rails and riding the racetrack fence going off-track when the road is blocked. Herbie is always a cute little car with personality, attitude, taste for competition and a strong will never to give up. This movie is the first for Herbie to be own by a female racer and Lindsay Lohan portrayed her character Maggie with grace and pose as a down to Earth tomgirl who desires to prove her abilities and talents. It is also very refreshing to see a leading female character to wear pants and everyday clothing without being explicit or revealing too much. I actually like this movie.

Strong message within
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I like this movie for the strong plot of human trafficking and prostitution that women have a choice. The leading actor Joel Smallbone carries through but these issues are too big and difficult for one man to take on. He enlists David Koechner for assistance but cost his character Dale's life. This movie is not for the faint hearted due to the issues and violence involved. There are decent men in this world in 21st century with morals, ethics and conscience.

Suspense with a good plot and filled with action
21 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
As a woman I am not a big fan of comic books from either DC or Marvel. However, watching this movie at the theater without any previous knowledge or history of the leading character hero, but I actually enjoyed this film. The plot was solid which held a good story filled with action and suspense supported with good acting. I admired the relationship with Mera and Arthur working together to save Atlantis and the prevention of a war between the worlds of ocean and land. I also enamored with Nicole Kidman's motherly affection for her two sons.

Fairytale is still alive
4 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Cinderella has always been my favorite fairytale of all and this Disney version is on target with Cinderella's famous blue ball gown, magical transformation of animals to coach carriage, coach man, footmen, glass slipper. I think Cate Blanchett's performance as the evil stepmother is a accurate portrayal including her callous, stolid personality. Yes, good things happen to good people as there is karma. Watching this movie again and again makes every girl dream of one's own prince charming. I also like Lily James's singing of "Lavender's Blue (Dilly Dilly" in a cappella in its original form as a nursery rhyme. This is a very sweet romantic movie.

Food Brings Romance
5 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The plot is very solid as well as the storyline. Zeta-Jones and Eckhart did a good job in both their respective roles. The chemistry was pure rivalry and competition of who is the better chef, who cooks better, who has good presentation, whose food taste better, etc. The owner/ manager Patricia Clarkson (Paula) does not intervene on the rivalry nor competition but allow Eckhart to take full control of Zeta-Jones's puissance position. Zeta-Jones's character works hard at what she does for many years and crafted her signature dishes which the manager back stabs and double bind the puissance in the respective roles. Lesson learned in the real world: trust no one in any line of work or business. The relationship between Zeta-Jones and Eckhart characters later turns into love, romance and then business partners. Food is the international unspoken language as humans we need to eat to survive. Food binds people together. Majority of the scenes take place inside a restaurant kitchen as the master chef, cooks, Sous chefs, understudies cooks, assistants, etc. which NO ONE wear gloves or hair nets while handling food. This restaurant takes place in NYC and the NYC Health Department is very strict about handling food and food preparation. It appears the entire staff are bear hands which is a complete health code violation incurring loss of business license and hefty fines!! Filming a movie inside restaurant kitchens should appear realistic and close to authentic which means utilizing gloves and hair nets while handling food. Why Eckhart's wear ridiculous orange clogs in the kitchen and pajama-ish pants when he represents a professional Sous chef? The only chef kitchen attire are the staff wearing white chef robes as nothing else is in accordance to NYC Health Department standards.

On the edge movie, fast paced
17 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie a lot as it stars Nicolas Cage with not well-known actors/actresses. It is suspenseful with non-stop action and invokes U.S. History of one the most important documents of history--Declaration of the Independence and the origins of the U.S. founding fathers. The riddles, clues created by the Freemasons and Knights Templar are actually very clever to prevent the British from finding the treasure. The writers of this film are very clever to instill U.S. history with riddles and a endless series of clues leading to a treasure. Silence Dogood letters written by Benjamin Franklin kept at the Franklin Institute is also a clever method for a clue which leads to the antique spectacles. Yes, Benjamin Franklin was really a freemason. Nicolas Cage referenced famous quotes from "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." ― Thomas A. Edison and ..."when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.- Declaration of Independence. In truth there are 56 signers of the Declaration, NOT 55 signers as Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) stated. This movie appeals for all ages and will retain audiences' attention throughout the entire film. There is no excessive foul language used, some violence.

For any avid history buff, this movie will enrich your mind-- especially U.S. History. The question lies: Is there really a encrypted message embedded on the back of the Declaration of the Independence?

An American Icon
22 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
An American icon has a modern update of CGI animation, music and dance moves. Charlie Brown and the whole Peanuts gang are as lovable as they were in 1950. This new movie incorporates all the traditional elements of creator Charles M. Schulz's hand drawn warmth, personal touch, social values and communal unity. It takes me back to my childhood with years of watching VHS tapes and Charlie Brown TV specials. Schulz's definitive message always bear substantial fabric: if you do not succeed, you try again and again as with life when you fall down you stand up again and again, but Charlie Brown always tries again with a positive attitude. Life's core values and the purity of social elements of humanity are no longer exhibited or invoked which Schulz expressed through his Peanuts comic strip. Dearest Charlie Brown who is clumsy, lack confidence, and bad luck but he hones basic humanity core values as his unrequited love interest admire him: compassion, support his sister at the talent show, honesty with his test score, and integrity. This movie hones all the source material of Charles M. Schulz's definitive underwriting with update look of CGI, music, and dance moves of the Peanuts characters. Original music from Peanuts TV specials and featurettes as Vince Guaraldi "Linus And Lucy" are, of course, incorporated.

Peanuts, always a classic, an original that continues to be honed and loved by long-time loyal fans and hopefully new generation of 2010s era and beyond.

One man to make a difference in a country torn by apartheid
17 March 2015
Morgan Freeman is an exceptional actor to portray a prominent political figure as Nelson (Madiba) Mandela. Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar is also superb. I do not know much about the sport, nor politics but I can easily recognize and value great leadership by example, humility through character of forgiveness and reconciliation, and acknowledging that South Africa is composed of mix races both blacks and whites. This movie is very justified with all the events in 1995 as close to 100% historically accurate as possible. President Nelson (Madiba) Mandela used the 1995 Rugby World Cup to unified a torn country with a common interest as a step to move forward from apartheid, crime, poverty to become a "Rainbow Nation." I enjoyed how he was inspired by William Ernest Henley's "Invictus" poem while he was in prison during his 30 year time and help inspire Francois Pienaar, captain of the Springbok, to lead his rugby team. Both Freeman and Damon perfected their accent as true South Afrikaans. As an American also living in a mixed race country, I value Pienaar and Mandela's work and great efforts to emerge a country with a broken past to rise and rise. The movie ends with Nelson (Madiba) Mandela's voice over reciting versus from the William Ernest Henley's poem. Overall GREAT movie!!

"Invictus" By William Ernest Henley

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole, I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the Horror of the shade, And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll, I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul.

Every story needs a hero
22 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Every story needs a hero... This movie is told in a series of flashbacks through three people where each version is altered. Unfortunately it did not contain an important traditional Chinese element when the enemy is captured and then killed: severed the head which gets presented to the emperor. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Lost Bladesman (Guan Yun Chang)" 2011 which depicts this tradition. With each version depicted Broken Sword attempts to be closer and closer to the emperor at his throne. The costumes of characters at varying stages in the story line (red, green, white, and blue) symbolizes life's elements of passion, youth, truth, and love-- cleverly written and choreographed into film. The analogy of Chinese calligraphy with the sword are perfectly described as an art more than a crafted skill. The Chinese calligraphy are a beautiful art. The battle scenes are symmetrical almost like a dance, especially the fight scene over the lake with the sword blades piercing the calm water in stillness.

Overall, it is a good movie.

Good plot, sad story
14 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This film's plot is strong and solid storyline, though, the title is misleading to believe that the main character Maggie won any championship or titles during her short-lived career. Clint Eastwood's directing is always a classic and Oscar winning performance. I disagree with the Catholic priest who the character, Frankie seeks advise and strength. A priest is a man of religion, a man of good moral character, of good faith. However, this movie depicts Catholic priests as a negative, callous individual who uses excessive foul language in the beginning when exiting Church of St. Mark's: "there are no domo gods you F***** Pagans!!" A genuine man of religion would not use such vulgar language to any extent and would have more faith and compassion towards Frankie with his estrange relationship with his own daughter.

The ending is extremely sad. I thought that Maggie would win at least one championship or title match in her boxing career. She is a struggling waitress trying to make ends meet with her family. Getting hurt and injured is a high risk in any sport which is very unfortunate for Maggie at the end.

Beach, women, sex and drama
1 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The 1990's era is not complete without this very popular TV syndication show of beach, women, and all the drama. Eleven years this show ran in syndication with worldwide recognition. Many actors and actresses are not equipped or experienced in acting or filming but are there to fill the void. I enjoyed the first two seasons with the original cast. Eddie and Shauni were always my favorite couple as they have true love. After these two actors' departure I've lost interest in the show. Throughout the entire show's run the stunts and explosions were dangerous portraying crime on the beach, which I am surprised how actors and extras were not hurt. As the seasons grew onward, the cast changed with many actors coming and going that it became too many for the last few seasons. The show's plot became too much drama for forty eight (48) minutes.

All the pieces come together when Linda had draws a calendar of events. It seemed fate was not on Linda's side and that Jim's death was inevitable. Being alive and well is a miracle.

A Modern Snow White
20 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
A modern remake of the classic fairy tale without all the singing and animals including birds following the leading character who were by Snow White side through and through. A huntsman narrates the beginning the story's entrance following credits who was sought by the evil queen to find the king's daughter. The Dark Forest stays true to the original fairy tale where it is eiree for trees moving, mud and objects linger. The evil queen was suppose to take on an old hag form to trick Snow White biting a red apple, which this version portrays as a fake William. The Duke's son, adult William did not play a major supporting role as he did not contribute to the dialogue. I find him to be a supermodel for his good looks filling the void in the movie.

Snow White's character wears a long blue dress as she did not wear pants in that time period, women only wore long dresses in this time period. The seven dwarfs do not sing "hi ho" and nor do they bear the Disney version fictitious names: Sleepy, Happy, Grumpy, Sneezy, Dopey, Bashful and Doc which an eighth dwarf appears oddly in this film. I believe most classic fairy tales carry the same villain: an evil step mother (Cinderella, Snow White, Mother Gothel "Tangled").

As You Wish
20 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I LOVE this movie from William Goldman's 1973 excellent book converted into a movie. A princess who is also a bride to be, how clever is a combination two who employees a farmhand, Westley. The handsome Westley always appease his woman with a response: "as you wish" and he reveals his love for her. This movie is every girl (no matter how old) romance. With a happy ending as narrated by a grandfather told to his very ill grandson, it depicts fantasy and the subtle ness of love. I am willing to watch this movie again and again. This movie is a classic that rivals in the silver screen with 1987's "Dirty Dancing" which both have love and romance in their respective plots.

Brother And Sister Crew
20 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Two siblings circa the year 1692 during the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts to hunt witches and were hired to rescue abducted children. It does not stay true to the original German folk fairy tale recorded by Brothers Grimm's 1812 book.

What intrigues me of this movie is how these two have a portable device that serves as both defibrillator and taser in this time period? This period of time there were no electricity.

In their childhood to be abducted and held captive by a witch being forced to consume candy has made Hansel a diabetic with hourly insulin injections pen through clothes. I believe the character Gretel also developed an eating disorder for eating too much candy in her adult years. I was hoping to see incantations recited or grimoires by witches, nevertheless the special effects for flying on brooms and using the forest in her favor were still good. A two person crew has a solid close relationship.

Massachusetts is Bewitched
20 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I LOVE season 1 to 4 and later liked 5 to 6 but lost faith and interest in season 7 of Sabrina. The original story line was based on Archie comics which were not faithful in the live action TV sitcom version.

Season 1 to 4 Sabrina's long-time love interest, Harvey, was always my favorite for a better love. Of course no one forgets their first love. She uses her magic frequently and the special effects with technology have evolved through time and growth of her magical knowledge/education. The original cast with Libby, Mr. Pool, Jenny, Valerie were fun characters that keeps the show fresh. High school years are the years where a person grows into adulthood and she comes of age in the other realm witch world. Salem, the cat has evolved with technology for animatronic which he has become more visible as a true cat. I LOVE Nick Bakay's portrayal of Salem which only he can pull off perfectly adding mischief, mayhem, fun, compassion to the Spellmans- particularly Sabrina, and his genuine concern. I LOVE how season 2 draws out a base line for Sabrina to balance her school studies + studying for her witch's license + Harvey + Libby, Valerie. I also LOVE how season 3 continue the base line of solving the family secret where each member visits Sabrina to deliver a clue all leading to the suspenseful finale.

Season 5 to 6 The audience sadly never see Sabrina graduate from high school nor a formal final exit appearance by Westbridge High School crew: Mrs. Quick, Mr. Pool with the added absence of having no best friend to seek shelter from life's troubles. Valerie was written off the cast as it makes difficult for a teenager to grow or develop. This is her brief but fast college years which Sabrina uses her magic less and less as living with mortals without another witch for comfort becomes dull. It takes away the witchcraft out for the show's title is "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" note the WITCH.

Season 7 There was extremely very little use of magic. Why are the aunts written off from the cast? Sabrina needs her family as she is unable to see her mother and father but at least her aunts. The film studio or network attempts to portray Sabrina in this season as a young adult who can be independent and stand on her own, but it is not faithful to the origin of Archie comics. Mortals living in the Spellman house? No more use of the other realm portal in the Spellman linen closet? She uses the magic book less but heavily rely on technology with her laptop to look for spells and incantations. I HATE Aaron, he was too arrogant and old for her. I miss Harvey as Sabrina's love interest.

Solid Plot for Good Storyline
30 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is my favorite "Sabrina" made for TV movies. The cinematography is beautiful and the storyline for her quest to open a 500 year old aunt's locket instructed by her father as the baseline is very strong. Witchcraft was frequently used throughout this two hour movie and the special effects are great. With her stowaway magical cat, Salem they venture in Rome, Italy for two weeks. Salem may be annoying at times, but he does truly care for Sabrina. I love Salem, he's so cute, fun yet mischievous in this movie. Her two aunts, Zelda and Hilda do not appear in this movie but are mentioned as "my aunts." I wish Harvey Kinkle, her notably first love, was in it. This movie depicts Sabrina venturing into the real world outside her sheltered life under her aunts and high school of the fictional town Westbridge, Massachusetts in Rome, Italy for two weeks.

Ted (2012)

Best Friends
13 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
A comedy, fantasy for an eight year old boy's powerful Christmas wish bring life to a large teddy bear which becomes a lifelong companion into adult hood to a thirty five year old man. Not all teddy bears are sweet, purity, cuteness as this one contains a vile mouth for excessive profanity, drug use (no signs of addiction) and sexual contents. As an avid teddy bear lover, I could not resist but to see Ted.

The CG graphics for Ted is not accurate as all teddy bears do NOT have eyebrows for a stuffed animal!! They do not have thumbs either for that matter, which even BBC's "Misery Bear" is truly a teddy bear depicted on screen. I just wonder how Ted secured his employment at a supermarket without proper identification papers (no Social Security, no identification card). Also when Lori was sewing Ted, in a panic to revive him, why did she not sew his whole body as it was not shown his back but only his front? She also never sewn Ted's left ear intact as it was forcefully removed by Robert, the stalker's son. The father and son stalkers originate a broken family who do not treat personal property with great care as a teddy bear.

The scene where Ted drives John to work with his feet attached to stilts to reach the brake petals, which is so funny. He's too short to see thus he plows the surrounding parked cars. It personally broke my heart to see Ted ripped in half and all his stuffing fallen on Fenway Park's lawn.

All in all, Ted the movie ends with a sweet ending as I did shed several tears. I'm happy Lori finally accepts Ted (as is) as part of her life with John. Because best friends are worth it.
