WandaVision (2021)
10/10
AMAZING and dripping in topical symbolism without being preachy or pretentious (EP.1-2)
18 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
DAMN this is getting good... In the very beginning I was guessing maybe they would escape into the future (since they have powers and whatnot) due to embarrassment (from having messed up the dinner with Vision's boss), because I really wasn't feeling the whole "cheesy 50s sitcom" thing. It felt forced and tired. I expected a wholesome and goofy show a la "Kate and Leopold." But by the end of the first episode the tone really shifted a lot. It's dark and creepy and it leaves you with an unsettling feeling... My guess is that many of the people in the black and white world are superheroes or gifted in some way, while the rest (those in charge of guiding the plot of the sitcom along; such as Wanda's smartass girlfriend played by Kathryn Hahn) are part of the organization that stuck the superheroes there. The members of the organization reinforce and reward "normal human behavior" and ridicule "unusual/extravagant behavior." The superheroes; eager to fit in, work hard to suppress their own "supernatural abilities," so there's another level of messed-upness there too. It was very clear that Wanda already experiences this overwhelming need to fit in (maybe survival instinct? fear of being persecuted/hunted for being different?) when she made Vision's "illusions" seem actually fake in front of everyone. There is a hint that the sassy friend (Hahn) is a sort of "handler" or "organization insider" when she ridicules Wanda for saying maybe she should just "be herself." One of the creepiest mind control thingies they display is the "for the children" line, while simultaneously springing up an unplanned and extremely premature (in many ways) pregnancy unto them unsuspectingly, as a further and 'frankly' extreme distraction. I can't wait for the next episode! Sorry for writing all of this I smoked before watching and I have nobody to share this with :')

Now THIS is a story!
2 May 2019
I'm still baffled by the story so I'm struggling to write a coherent review, but here's what I can say about it for now: *absolutely NO spoilers ahead, so you can read with confidence ;)* -This, in my opinion, is a masterfully crafted documentary. It's not pretentious nor cheesy, and has just the right amount of sensationalism to lure you in. -This is an incredibly compelling, truly astounding story told by one of the most interesting characters in modern history. -Re-enactments in documentaries rarely work but in this case they just make the story all the more vivid. The use of real footage also adds to the excitement of the story. -For all mystery/thriller/documentary fans out there, if you haven't seen it yet, please do!! You won't regret it. It is still relevant and I am very surprised it hasn't received any further attention by the media in general.

Extremely creative + extremely cheesy = extremely entertaining!!

Feels like a soap opera version of an Alfred Hitchcock's story. It's an incredible experience, I think it has instantly become its own genre. An intelligent story that keeps you guessing with a subtly cheesy/b-movie-esque atmosphere. A match made in heaven for sure! Really looking forward to more movies like this one. Thoroughly entertaining :)

BAD-ASS
1 April 2018
One of my favorite features in Korean cinema is their ability to create a story that is as equally as thrilling and action-packed as it is moving and dramatic. This movie is great at doing this as well as successfully using experimental camera angles and recording methods. This movie has it all, basically. It is far from perfect (some of the acting is a bit over the top, and some situations end up being too cheesy) but very very entertaining, and extremely fresh; a feast to the senses. One last thing that I feel is very important to mention, is the fact that this movie takes no political or social stance on womens' issues; it just assumes that all the viewers have risen above that and treats every character in the movie equally. There are no sexist puns or jokes directed at any specific gender, as well as there are no degrading assumptions or attitudes towards anyone. In my opinion, this makes the movie a whole lot more enjoyable. Overall, a bad-ass action/drama/thriller with lots of twists and turns. It has something for everyone to enjoy.

Creepy (2016)

Very entertaining, and certainly very CREEPY

This is one of those good, slow-burning mysteries. If you actually feel like a detective and tend to be very judgmental when it comes to mystery movies, maybe skip this one, because it WILL get frustrating. It definitely has its flaws, but this movie is definitely what I would consider a classic mystery, very reminiscent of Hitchcock's work. It will definitely make you feel very confused in some parts, and leave you thinking for quite some time after you watch it. Overall, a good mystery, very entertaining, and definitely worth watching. 7/10

Rules of Engagement (2007–2013)
I guess you could call it lazy writing
25 May 2017
I don't understand how this show managed to stay on the air for seven seasons.

It's basically a show about two couples and one single guy who hang out because... I don't really know because they don't really seem to like each other that much. Individually, they seem like great actors but for some reason they just don't work well on screen together. Not to mention that the lines on the show are pretty much the guys saying cheesy phrases that remind me of the old: "guess who's got two thumbs and loves to watch TV... this guy" yeah, witty.

I mean, one of its recurring jokes consists in two grown men calling a friend of theirs names like: 'zebra,' 'referee' and 'hamburglar' because she is wearing a striped black and white top. Brilliant.

Flashy, hyper, stylish and a bit confusing
1 March 2017
I think I would've liked reading the source material for this movie. Seems like a good read. The actual movie on the other hand, it was a bit of a hit and a miss for me. I liked the colors, the great acting, and the fact that Kanako's dark secret wasn't something I saw coming. However, I felt like it started out great and then kind of dragged on a little bit on the second half just to end as a totally confused mess. Too many characters and too many sub-plots all of a sudden. I think with a little bit of editing and focusing more on some of the characters (like the bullied boys who were in love with Kanako, or the thug girl) the movie would've been a bit more interesting. If you want to watch something violent and gory, with a decent story and a dark twist I would recommend it. It's pretty unique. I wouldn't buy it, but it was entertaining, a decent watch.

I'm pretty sure someone paid people to give this thing good reviews
28 February 2017
In my opinion, this is one of those movies that deserve a zero. I'm really puzzled by all those high ratings and the awards this movie got. For starters, there is not one single likable character in this movie. They are all either evil for no reason, disgustingly rude, or just plain out of touch... the decisions they make don't really make sense (if you watch it you'll know what I mean). I watched it because I had read some reviews that compared it to some horror classics from the 80's. But I mean, Gremlins had a plot, and some humor that actually worked. This movie tries to be funny and dark and just ends up with bad graphics of stuffed animals that... kill people? I don't know, sometimes movies are "so bad they're good" but this one just got stuck at bad. If you can, please watch something else.

An ugly movie
28 February 2017
This is an ugly movie. The kind that makes you feel depressed and hopeless... but it's pretty good! In my opinion, this movie is actual, real horror. No ghosts, no 'creatures,' just broken humans; and that makes it all the more horrifying. Don't be fooled by the slow start, once it picks up, you won't be able to stop watching. It's disturbing, mildly gory, creepy, and the acting is great! The story-telling is great, the pacing is great, it's an overall good movie; and I guarantee you won't be able to forget about it for quite some time.

Very predictable, but quite enjoyable
28 February 2017
I had been wanting to watch this movie because of all of the good reviews... and I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting something fresh like "It Follows" (which I agree is not perfect but I think it was very entertaining, pretty creepy and the overall idea was very original). Instead, we get this recycled, very predictable story with lots of plot holes and lots of guns. I have nothing special to say about the story but I have to admit, what made me want to watch the movie 'til the end was Dan Stevens' performance. The guy can act. The music was also good. But sadly, that was it.
