New Police Story - Jackie Chan is back in Hongkong!
9 January 2005
I am writing this comment while the end credits of the movie are still displayed behind me on the TV screen. When I first heard about New Police Story I thought, this movie can't be as good as the first Police Story. I was right, it was not as good as the first movie, but I don't care, Police Story is already a classic in HK cinema. But I wasn't disappointed either. The story of New Police Story is nothing new, but that movie is Jackie Chan's best since some years. Forget all his American movies (only both Rush Hour movies were really great), now Jackie is back in Hongkong - AND HE ROCKS. The movie never had any boring lengths, the story was from beginning to the end thrilling and entertaining. Anybody who likes HK- and action movies should watch it. I gave the movie a 10 out of 10, because I haven't had so much entertainment and fun with a movie since a long time. New Police Story brought my faith back to Hongkong movies. For Jackie Chan fans the movie is a MUST. Don't expect to see much comedy, Police Story was and is a more serious action/drama movie. Enjoy it as much as I did!

Better than any Hollywood production
17 November 2004
I have watched Taegukgi for the first time just yesterday, so my impressions of the movie are still fresh. I have not known much about the Korean War that took place at the beginning of the 1950's, but that was a history lesson I will not easily forget. Taegukgi is really the best (anti-)war movie I have ever seen. And believe me, I have seen a lot. But no movie ever before has impressed me so much. In most Hollywood productions there is only one perspective, the winners view. Many directors tried to make a movie that shows both sides of the conflict, but all of them failed. Until now: Taegugki is showing the situation mostly from the south korean view too, but it is the first movie which shows also the "other side". I was very surprised, that the director showed also the crime that his own government committed to their own people at this time. That movie is the first war movie that is not glorifying war - it's horrifying, terrifying, scary - like in reality.
