Downward Dog (2017)
Delightful. Why only one season??
I have been longing to watch this ever since I discovered it on social media years ago. I waited and waited and waited to see it on tv but it never happened. Until I found it on a streaming platform today. I am dog crazy. I still miss my dog, 7 years after he passed away. This show reminds me so much of my dog and me and our life together. I've laughed, cried and laughed again. This show has heart and teaches love, tolerance and acceptance in good and bad times. It should have succeeded. To only have this one series is such a shame. But I'm so glad I got to watch it. If you're dog crazy like I am, I absolutely recommend this show for you.
Ten Pound Poms (2023)
Got Better Each Episode
As much as this was a depiction of what happened when Ten Pound Poms came to Australia, I think the important thing to remember is that this is a drama show, not history. Having said that, an old ex of mine was a 6 year old when his family came to Australia on a boat, landing in Perth and then Sydney, before being transported to Ipswich, Queensland. They were also under the impression that they would have somewhere to live and jobs would be plentiful. The accommodation was very much what was shown here, and the attitude towards the "Poms" was very much the case in this show. I really hope that there is a season 2, it was a little slow to start but it got better as it went along. Loved the style of the era and the depiction of Australia at the time. Although I have to say that I found the racism awful and I was bubbling with anger as I watched. Sad to think that the Australian "spirit" was severely lacking.
Les Norton (2019)
Loving this show
I never knew it was a series of books so I'm basing this review as a discovery as a television show. This is so refreshingly Australian and the best thing to happen to Australian TV since Kath & Kim. The slang, the fashion, the use of phrases are all so quintessentially Aussie and I love it. If you're a lover of quirky, mindless Australian tv like me, I recommend it
