Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
Terrific conclusion to a great beginning
During my review of Bahubali the beginning, I had said that it is yet to match the Hollywood standards but it is a great start for Indian movies towards the right path.
Bahubali the conclusion, exceeded my expectations. I watched the dubbed Hindi version, and that might have killed some of the dialogues in the original Telugu script, although that doesn't take any bit of magnificence away from the movie.
CGI effect was mind blowing and so was the action sequence. The laws of physics being put upside down, aside, the movie also depicted the golden era prevalent in the Pre-Medieval era. If Bahubali I was the 1st small step towards greatness for Indian cinema, Bahubali II would be the giant leap. How many sequels have been better than the original movie? Bahubali II has not just been better, but remarkably better than Bahubali I, which in itself was better than most of the Indian movies. That in itself is a feat. Set the bar quite high and then cross it beyond miles in the sequel. Bahubali II is the perfect movie for anyone to experience the ancient great of 'Indianness'. The intro of female lead with sword in hands wearing traditional 'Indian' clothes symbolizing the female power 'Shakti' is mind blowing.
All along there are at least 14 moments which give the spectators goosebumps of epic proportions and might even make 1 weep in joy and awe.
The only thing BAD about Bahubali II is that there won't be a Bahubali III, well that and some of the songs, which did not contribute to the grandeur of the movie .
Hopefully the Director of the movie would be encouraged to make more movies from the Pre-Medieval era especially about the Gupta rules, Vijaynagar kingdom and the Cholas.
Bãhubali: The Beginning (2015)
Great movie that represents evolution of Indian Cinema
Many experts are terming it as India's answer to Hollywood's 300. I believe it would be unfair to say that, both for Baahubali as well as 300. No doubt Baahubali has scaled up the expectations for upcoming flicks, but Indian Cinema is yet to reach Hollywood's level in action genre. By no way am I undermining the action sequences portrayed in the movie. That is great when compared to Indian movies but slightly behind Top notch Hollywood movies
However what was best in the movie was Cinematography combined with the script. Even though fictional, the movie depicts a powerful picture of Ancient India and some of the scenes are nothing less than heavenly and some of the scenes (which are already revealed in the official trailers and posters, like Baahubali aka Prabhas mounting a 100 kg Shivling on his shoulders, a hand protecting a baby from the ferocious river and many more like these) give you nothing less than goosebumps.
The romantic angle might have been slightly overplayed. Also typically South Indian movies project the heroes as nothing less than a superman which seems quite unrealistic. However in this movie, it seems more realistic given the genre. Many ancient Indian kings have been known to take on herd of bull elephants, lions bare handed. So the Extreme macho persona represented by both the protagonist and the antagonist is completely justified.
In short, if you crib about Indian movies not being up to the mark, do watch this as the movie has raised the bar and if you love Indian movies, every reason to see this one.
Awaiting the Concluding part which is due in 2016
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
Walk through the Space Park
This isn't one of those movies which makes you feel like an exclusive species throughout while watching it or a movie where you keep 'wowing' on numerous twists and turns, anticipating what happens next, only to get it wrong. However this is a movie which has a 'Weirdness Quotient' in it.
The 1st 15 odd minutes do not appear to be heading in any particular direction. Certain things remain unexplained but later on, the pieces move into one direction, the script builds and catches up beautifully.
This movie has lot of good stuff: action, emotions, Comedy (yes a lot of comedy) but there is a sense of incompleteness. The movie is nothing like The Dark Knight or the Avengers as i read in many of the reviews before going to watch the movie. The script is fairly predictable and there are few surprise elements in the movie. The movie has a good presentation. I am calling the movie weird not because of the characters but because of the story.
I would not specify any examples and ruin by giving any spoilers. Overall not a great movie for sure, but definitely a good watchable movie. And if you plan to watch, make sure you do so in Imax (in Normal 3D theaters, the visuals; which consist mostly of space scenes; were a bit subdued)
