The Deminer (2017)
Incredible Film, Words Can't Describe Major Fakhir
Wal! Just watched this and it was an incredible film about what can only be described as the bravest man you couldn't ever hope to imagine. This Kurdish Major defused thousands of bombs in Iraq after the mess left by the bumbling coalition. Impossible to say how many lives he saved but it must be in the thousands (so many of them being children). Worked tirelessly everyday without fear, his defusing was absolutely fearless and without any regard for himself. The tenseness throughout this film is turned up to 10 and the emotion is overwhelming at times.
That this man had to struggle to pay his rent and afford medical services is shameful. One particular scene lays this heartbreakingly bare.
The word hero is applied to many people but it would be hard to find anyone who comes near Major Fakhir Berwara in this respect. Rest in peace Major Fakhir, you were one in 7.5 billion.
The Walking Dead (2010)
A once good show that has turned like the now pointless zombies In It
First off I really used to rate this show having been a zombie fan since the early 80's watching the likes of Zombie Flesh Eaters and the masterpiece that is George A Romero's original Dawn of the Dead. I used to really rate TWD, after a slightly stalling first series it really caught pace and was a must watch through seasons 2 to around 5/6 and that was when it really went flat. The last couple of seasons have been excruciatingly dull to watch with only the odd decent episode peppered among them. Every four episodes feel like they should be one episode and this is becoming tiresome as is the 'let's focus on one character' each episode format that was used in the last season, we know the characters and this just stall's the overall story. The Negan feud was drawn out beyond belief and the whole Carl dying biblical sycophantic hangover has been a crock of sentimental b******t which shows little sign off ending anytime soon. Even the zombies don't really matter anymore as they are just swatted away like flies, the Glenn survival scenario's showed this with him at one point hiding under a bin to avid a horde of the undead - really! I get this is TV escapism but this show has really run it's course seasons ago and it's hard to see how it goes forward only thankfully now without the Negan nonsense. The previously strong characters of Merle, Herschel etc. are missed and even Daryl has become boring and predictable. Come on TWD up your game, get back to what you are good at before it is too late.
The Inheritance (2007)
The Inheritance - Hard Short Film Too Watch
Being a fan of independent cinema I was curious about this homegrown effort albeit it had been released some five years ago. Interesting storyline and backdrop and good plot spoilt by the complete inability to warm to either character and I appreciate this may have been done on purpose. The character of David just descended into absolute farce as the film progressed and it was difficult to keep the trigger finger of the stop button as the film ran on for it's less than lengthy duration. In summary a good idea spoilt by badly acted characters, could have been so much better. I would not necessarily give up on subsequent efforts from this director.
