The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine (2022)
Well-Weaved Addition to the Star Wars Universe
This was a great episode. Not only did it reveal more of what happened to Boba Fett since his time escaping the sarloc pit but gives the Tusken Raiders so much more depth. Their screen time in New Hope was minimal and they came off as desert scavengers. I'm not sure if they were explored more in any novelizations but this episode does a great job of painting them in a more honorable and majestic light. Simple proud people with a code of honor as if they were Tattooine's version of American's First People.
I Care a Lot (2020)
The Moral Is . . .
Only bad people succeed and they can get away anything by manipulating the legal system. Terrible plot. Started strong, great twist. The rest was all about privilege. If only I could hide my identity. If I had watched alone I would not have stuck it out to the end. Ashamed I watched as long as I did but just when I thought there would be no accountability in comes Benny Blanco from the Bronx. The only saving grace.
We Belong Together (2018)
Wow . . . This was really bad!
Brian White and Charles Malik Whitfield have the distinction of being in TWO terrible films this year: this one and Black & Privileged. I find it ironic the main is a teacher who discuss the hero's journey in one of the scenes. This film had no plot and requires too much suspension of disbelief.
Black Privilege (2019)
Wow . . . Really?
I watched all the way through. Loved the facts and statistics. However it doesn't make up for the poorly thought through plot. I mean you can google or YouTube basic screenwriting and filmmaking. I think the point of the ending was to suggest a revenge or get back. Unfortunately it wasn't setup very well and the audience was not invested in any of the remaining characters. I noticed none of the case where in frame with any of the bigger names. That was edited well enough to go unnoticed; those cuts could have been more deliberate and audio of the main cast overplayed with the bigger names. I thought the Reverends dialogue was very good. There were several attempts to setup big emotional payoffs that just never cashed in. Of all of the cast you daughter, Jay and Tamala has the better performances. Jay and his daughter's story should have had some closure. The last seen with Kay and Tamala almost suggested them getting together but we see her husband when she's introduced and reminded of his existence in the seen with the Iraqi-American. This had so much potential but for all the things this film had going for it . . . The idea of a hero's journey is he/she/it is on a journey. This went nowhere.
Easy: Swipe Left (2019)
My Favorite Episode!
I didn't know what to make of the show initially. I thought it was slow, however it feels like what reality tv should be minus talking to the camera and confessional monologues. These little slices into people's lives are so much more realistic. The relationships are complicated and tenuous and awkward and so REAL. In this episode Andi grows up a bit realizing the fantasy she held of Ryan was just that. Kyle, who was by really all in on the whole open marriage idea has found a place of comfort and identity perhaps for the first time in the past year or so. Andi returns to Kyle unwilling to return to their sexless marriage but unsure how to move forward, slightly crushed as Kyle confesses his love for Amy. Now with the mirage of Ryan completely evaporated, Andi now wants Kyle to only think about her and not look at his phone. An amalgamated goo of emotions stew in this barstool conversation between a couple, a husband and wife and newly found strangers.
Legion (2010)
A lot of star power but still falls short
I just happened to watch The Prophecy the same night I did this film. They aren't in the same league. If you are able to last to approximately the one hour mark, the film seems to take an everything but the kitchen sink approach to film making. The idea of good vs bad angels isn't a new theme, neither is the idea of a last stand at a restaurant/ coffee shop but who knew the angel Gabriel was really Thanagarian? Mad wicked mace. This film wasn't as clear as to what the Angels were made of as Gabriel bled during his fight with Michael. They conflict between the two angels didn't seem genuine. At the end as the characters are driving away I thought this reminds me of Sarah Connor at the end of the first Terminator only to reveal a backseat full of weapons much like the the coffin in Terminator III. I expected a better cohesive story considering powerhouses like Quiad and Dutton. It felt like some one had the idea to combine a few established actors with some not as experienced but recognizable actors and press out a hit. All of the best ingredients don't always equal a delectable dish. If your a fan of any of the actors you'll sit through to the end. If your looking for something in the vein of Prophecy you won't be reorganizing your list of best Angelic themed thrillers.
