Cats (2019)
Misunderstood artwork
I've been a huge fan of "Cats" the musical for years. I love the songs, I've seen stage productions a couple of times. And I was excited to have learned that there would be a cinematic version of the musical. I didn't know what to expect and how it would be done. So when I watched it in cinema I was really impressed with the scale of this film. I didn't know the characters were hugely computer generated, I simply thought the costumes were amazing 🤣. And you know what? CGI doesn't bother me at all. I simply love it! If I wanted to watch another costumed versions then I'd just go and watch a play again. What the buys and gals from the CGI ndepartment achieved here is simply mind-blowing! It makes me laugh when I read about 'human / cat hybrids' and people having nightmares after watching this lovely film. All those people who say those things clearly have no imagination and no inner child in them.
Homeland: The Covenant (2017)
A good episode
I love that Saul, being a Jew himself and working with the Israelis and Mossad when needed, disagrees with Israel's policy towards Palestine. His conversation with his sister is a great one in my opinion. Following some ancient story about a promise God gave to Abraham to justify extermination of Palestinian people by Israel is just fanatical. Just ask Saul.
The Haunting of Bly Manor: The Great Good Place (2020)
Interesting premise
An interesting premise to the series.. And Victoria Pedretti,.who I've already seen in You and Hill House, is smashing it again. Beautiful and very talented.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie (2021)
Lacks the charm of the stage musical
I loved the original production of 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' by Sheffield Theatres whose West End version with its original Sheffield cast I watched streamed onto a cinema screen a few years ago. It was charming, it was funny, it had great catchy songs in it. This film version has several of the original songs missing and new ones added, which is a shame. It's also missing some of the magic of the original. But it still has some magic to it.
Mulan (2020)
This film is for mature viewers, not for kids
I've never seen the animated version of Mulan (OMG!)l. This live action one is my first ever experience with this story, on and I really like it. It's beautifully shot, well acted, has great set design and no room for singing or dancing. It's an epic, adult version of a cartoon. And it should be regarded as such. Moaners will moan, and they can watch their animated version. This film however is for grownups.
