Titans (2018)
Interesting show, but betrays the source material.
Although it's obvious the production values are high, the mediocre writing, blackwashed characters, and out of character personalities are nothing but frustrating to anyone who loves the source material. This could have been outstanding, but they really screwed this the hell up. Some costumes, like that of Hawk, Dove, Robin, and Nightwing, are excellent, but the costume of Starfire looks like a low rent hooker, while Raven is absolutely atrocious, and Beast Boy is just downright lazy. I'm not even going to comment on the disappointment that is Trigon. It's as if somebody wanted to make a Titans show, but never read more than one comic book. There's a lot of excellent storylines the show runners can pull from. Let's hope this show gets better, and not worse. As of now, this show is like a CW show with more money. That's not a compliment. There's no excuse for DC Comics to not have the very best comic book based entertainment. Let's hope the future is bright, because people like myself, who have been buying comic books, and merchandise from DC all of our lives deserve better.
Lifeforce (1985)
Fantastically cheesy movie
Crazy, over the top vampire movie, with the stunningly beautiful Mathilda May strangely walking around almost the entire movie nude. Fascinating piece of cinema history. Highly recommended 1980's cheese ! Very entertaining, if not a bit over the top, Cannon classic.
Bliss (2021)
Poorly written, poorly directed, poorly acted, terrible movie.
Don't waste your time watching this nonsensical sci-fi yarn. It's as if a 14 year old kid, who lost his brother to drugs, watched "The Matrix," and then wrote a short science fiction story, about drugs, to cope with his loss. I love Salma Hayek, but I wouldn't watch this crap again, if you paid me.
Justice Society: World War II (2021)
Good Movie, But It Has Major Problems. There Were Too Many Dumb Changes To Classic Characters,And It Left Me With Too Many Questions...
I enjoyed this, ( very stylish ) but what universe does this take place in? I laughed out loud, when Barry punched that Atlantian, and I loved Wonder Woman fighting Aquaman. What's up with the muted colors? Why does Barry Allen have green eyes? Wally West's Flash is the one with green eyes. Barry Allen's Flash has blue eyes. Why can Barry only reach the Speed of Sound? That was Wally West's problem, in 1987. Where is Wildcat, Hawkgirl, Dr. Midnite, Atom, and Mr. Terrific? Where is the Alan Scott Green Lantern? Why does Carter Hall's Hawkman look like Black Adam? Why did you kill Carter Hall? Why did they give him a relationship with Black Canary? How in the hell does somebody who can take punches from Superman die from getting stabbed by a Kraken? Why did they kill Steve Trevor? Why kill Steve Trevor? That was so screwed up. Why is Iris West of African decent? She's Caucasian in the comics. Why do the Atlantians look like Mr. Freeze, in a wetsuit? What's the deal with Superman's belt? Why is Flash's emblem backwards on his chest? Why does Diana act more like Hippolyta's Wonder Woman? How in God's Green Earth could Hitler ever capture somebody on the power level of Doctor Fate? That's just not believable. Flash does NOT KILL PEOPLE. EVER. Is this Earth 2 a whole new universe, that Flash created after Darkseid destroyed the other one? Regardless, this was made with love, by fans of the Justice Society, and I appreciated it.
Kenan (2021)
Wow. This is AWFUL. Skip it.
I don't understand. Kenan is an intelligent, funny guy, but here? He's terrible. I really enjoy all these actors normally, yet in this show, they're walking around like they're all lost. This needs to be scrapped, and retooled. Kenan deserves better than this.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Who Greenlit This Garbage Script? Horrible.
I've seen a lot of superhero movies. As a company comicbook fan, it's kinda a prerequisite. This is so different than the first movie, it's like they filmed this in 1981. The problem is, it wouldn't have been good then, either. It comes off like a television pilot more than it does a movie. Where do I begin? The script is worse than any DC superhero movie since Superman IV. The nostalgia is simply there for nostalgia's sake. Gal Gadot is wonderful as usual. I feel bad that she had to star in this movie. Max Lord doesn't act like he does in the comics. Pedro Pascal is wasted in this. Chris Pine shouldn't even be in the movie. At all. Worse, the moral implications of Steve Trevor highjacking an innocent man's body, and then Diana sleeping with him, is not what Diana would do. Who thought it was okay? How did a man from World War I fly a jet fighter? The character of Barbara Minerva was miscast, terribly so, and the c.g.i. for Cheetah was laughable, like "Cats" laughable. Cheetah's origin was butchered, and made little sense. She didn't look like Cheetah, either. She kinda looked like a snow leopard. This movie is much too long, and really had no reason to be that way. It would have been a flop at the box office, and it's a flop for HBO MAX. Do not waste your time, especially if you're a Wonder Woman comic book fan. What a waste. I'd rather have watched a "Super Friends" episode.
Frank and Ava (2020)
Wow, is this a bad movie.
Terrible writing, and miscasts abound. Truly bad acting, and utterly tragic direction. Who in the hell thought this was worth making? The legend of Frank Sinatra deserved better than this dumpster fire.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Picard....doesn't act like ANYTHING like Jean Luc Picard.
******SPOILERS*******
Is this joke? While much better than Star Trek Discovery, this isn't Star Trek. My Lord, this so so, so bad. There are so many problems, so many things that do not make sense, and this is just the first episode. Kurtzman watched The Matrix too many times. The Federation doesn't act like the Federation. Evidently, now they're racist bad guys? There's a news lady that comes off as a parody of a "Fix News" correspondent ? Now they somehow "cloned" Data, and he has a....daughter? She fights guys in generic outfits like Neo? WTH? Didn't he get completely blown up in Star Trek Nemesis? Mars is attacked? The Romulans ( those that are left over from J.J. Abrams destruction of Romulus in J.J.'s revision of Star Trek ) are constructing....a Borg Cube? Maybe this will get better, but I sincerely doubt it. Alex Kurtzman does not understand Star Trek. At all. Stay away if you're a fan of the Original Canon.
Tin Star (2017)
Fantastic Crime Drama. 10 out of 10.
One of the best crime shows I've seen since Banshee. Very dark, but in a heartbreaking way. If you enjoy crime drama, this show is a must see.
Nothing in Common (1986)
An Adult Movie with A lot of Heart.
Simply brilliant movie, about marriage, divorce, the mistakes made raising children, love, family, pride, forgiveness, and the realization of priorities. Jackie Gleason, and Tom Hanks are astoundingly realistic, as Father, and Son. Sela Ward is sexy as you can get, as the daughter of an airline owner, who's also a shrewd business woman, and lustful playmate of Hanks. Watch it, you won't regret it. This movie gets my highest recommendation.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
All Flash, and No Substance.
This movie is all over the place. There's not really any kind of character arc, nor is there a cohesive story. It just jumps from one over the top action scene, to the next. The only thing this movie has is goofy, bad, facial c.g.i. for the main character, and some genuinely decent c.g.i. for some side characters. I'd only recommend this movie to 12 year olds on a Saturday afternoon, with nothing to do. Adults, we want more intelligent fare, something like Blade Runner 2049.
The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot (2018)
A Movie That Doesn't Know What It Wants To Be.
How to review this...uh, okay. Was this a story about a man that killed Hitler and Bigfoot? Could this be a movie about a fanciful life, or was this the story about life's reflection as we age ? Personally, I believe it's a story about an old man rewriting his life as he ages. The picture on the wall mirrored by the exact same setting later, basically stated this. By the way, the " Bigfoot " creature in this movie is hilariously amusing, ( The Bigfoot in the 70's Six Million Dollar Man looks far better than this..thing.) but not in a good way. Who made this movie ? The Asylum ? There's so many logistical inconsistencies in this movie I lost count. You've got to love watching an elderly man scaling up The side of a mountain. The editing is serviceable, but the direction is all over the place. The acting is, fine, considering how bad the script is. God, what was Sam Elliot thinking when he decided to do this movie ? Unless you're drunk, and have absolutely nothing to do, avoid this like the plague. Wait. Don't watch this even if you're drunk. It's awful, and this is from a big fan of Sam Elliot. What a waste of talent, and money. I anxiously await the sequel, where Sam becomes a zombie, and fights the Loch Ness Monster.
The Tick (2016)
Absolutely Amazing. Hilarious.
What are you waiting for ? Watch this ! This show is the culmination of superhero shows like Batman (1966)
Finally, we have The Tick ! Edlund must be proud, because this show is truly great. The humor is fantastic, and the show is written for adults who grew up loving comic books. The kid playing Arthur reminds me of Woody Allen.
This is, by far, the best thing Amazon has done, since "Sneaky Pete."
I love it !
