Hemlock Grove: Demons and the Dogstar (2014)
Black Flying Manta?!?!?!?
The doctor smelled "bad guy" since his accidental meeting with Miranda at the diner... but hey, what the hell? Worst monster ever :) For the rest, decent finale, not a lot of suspense as I already saw most of the events coming. Some scenes were quite good, although predictable. Some others made me smile and chuckle. On the top of the list, the absurd scenario and the even more ridiculous fight at the doctor's studio. The scales-under-skin paid a huge homage to the immortal classic "V-Visitors". There were some loose ends here and there, but nothing extremely disappointing. Overall, it was a good season, it started off extremely well, kept a good pace and a good plot, but the last 2 episodes let me down a bit.
Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (2008)
This is pure awesomeness!
As someone said already, this is not an horror movie. It's a comedy-action-sci-fi-splatter film. Imaging a mix of the video game Left4Dead, the early Peter Jackson's filmography and the soft porn of the '70s. Shake it well, a sprinkle of modern special effects and you have Feast II! I have to say that I liked the first movie of the trilogy, but it was somewhat too serious. This second chapter is brilliant, with chicks, midget Mexican fighters (I loved the part where the two brothers fight each other), blood, epic splatter scenes (the dissection of the creature goes behind any imagination) and a lot of non-sense. The direction is pretty good too, it reminded me some parts of Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 corpses". Overall, this goes straight into my Top 50, along with Braindead, Bad Taste and Re-animator.
Town Creek (2009)
Meh.
This is one of the movies that make you say "And so?". The film is not as bad as the critics state, but it is not even a hidden gem. It is a mediocre movie by a mediocre director. It starts off very well, but after 30 minutes everything starts to degenerate and the plot makes no sense at all. To make the situation even worse, there is nothing spectacular in the special effect compartments; dialogs are pretty dull too. The storyline is quite appealing, but when it came to shoot the movie probably Joel Schumacher decided to have a drink or two and mess it up completely. Still, you can see some nice ideas that give you hopes... but unfortunately, nothing great will happen on screen. My verdict: a high quality waste of time.
Nazis at the Center of the Earth (2012)
I don't know what to say
I give this movie a 5, which is the exact average between 0 (for the movie itself) and 10 (for how much I laughed).
There is nothing right in this movie. Nothing. There are holes in the plots so big that the entire universe can pass through. Science wise, it is less credible than a scientific paper written by a 2 year old child. Visual effects are remarkably horrible. The Robot-Hitler is amazingly ridiculous. Characters act like retards, not to mention the poor acting.
Nevertheless, I watched this movie twice. If you take it for what it is meant to be (or at least I hope that was the intention of the director), a parody of sci-fi-nazi movies, then you will love it to death.
The Tall Man (2012)
Hey, the movie was cool...
Not exactly what I expected, but I have to say that I have enjoyed the movie quite a lot. The first half of the film is a sort of low-pace horror movie, which is really functional to introduce the twist in the plot. From that moment on, the movie turns into a psychological drama to end up as a TV-movie for old ladies. What it looks awkward on paper it is actually quite a winning concept; the three parts of the movie connect very smoothly and you never have the impression that what is happening on screen comes from another movie. All in all, good movie, great direction, pretty good acting (Jessica Biel is perfect in her role) and not-too-complex twisted plot. Recommended.
