Cars (2006)
Hudson Hornet
Great movie! Terrific humor for children AND adults! Here's an addition to the trivia page. It's not by chance that Doc is a Hudson Hornet. Hudson Hornet's won the NASCAR championship in '51, '52 and '53.
The animation is unbelievable! The cars throw up bits of rubber off the tires as they circle the track, just like NASCAR! There are so many car images embedded in the film, and the cars are so realistic--sounds strange for an animated movie, but I'm a car guy and it was incredible! Also, the sound is fantastic, notice when Mack is dozing while driving down the road....that's the sound a diesel truck makes with it's Jake Brake--a device used for slowing big trucks down with the engine exhaust. Sally sounds just like a Porsche....the gravel crunching under the wheels, all of it is just flat incredible! And good Ol' Darrell.....Boogity, boogity, boogity!
Great movie for race fans and their children (grandchildren, nieces and nephews!)

McQ (1974)
Still a cowboy
OK, so what do you watch a John Wayne movie for anyway? Good action, nice plot, the Duke doing HIS thing; this time with a badge and a cool car instead of his trusty horse. I just watched this movie again on Speed Channel's lost drive in......Very enjoyable. Good supporting cast, great location and poor ol' Al Littieri gets wasted again! How many bad guys did he play in the 70's? Another good John Wayne movie.... How about that Firebird... was that a '74 Trans Am? Dark green too, hmmmm, maybe more than just a little "Bullit" brought into this film? There are a couple of scenes and the music occasionally really reminds me of Bullit. The Duke is no where as cool as McQueen (hmm, there's a "McQ"there too) but he certainly has the muscle, even at this age.
Christine (1983)
A boy and his car
Having fallen in love with and restored several old cars, I can see the obsession factor with Arny. However, Christine's pure evil is all consuming, as is her love for Arny. Old cars seem to want your love and attention, but I've never had one devoted to me like Christine. What a terrific movie! Edgy, suspenseful, innovative (for '83) and a great watch. I watched it again just recently and it still holds up well, the soundtrack is perfect. The casting is great and I love the story. Alexandra Paul before Baywatch, Prosky before Hill Street Blues, even Spielberg! In Halloween, Carpenter taught us the Boogy Man never dies. In Christine, he taught us no one comes between a boy and his car.
Bringing Down the House (2003)
What a hoot! Steve Martin at his wild and crazy best!
I loved it. Hit my funny bone in a BIG way. The scene on the couch was Steve Martin as I remember him at his wild and crazy (SNL) best! There are sooooo many good lines! How could you have found a better, laughable, racist than Betty White? And Eugene Levy attracted to the "dark side"...... I laugh until I hurt every time I watch it. Remember, the humor is so tongue in cheek, you can't take it seriously. Jean Smart has always been one of my favorites, but lacks a little pizzaz in this one--she's the only one I was disappointed in. Hello, you coco goddess! I especially like the banter between Charlene and the ex-sister-in-law. Ex-sister-in-law reminds me of a WKRP Jennifer, gone bad! Mark it down as one of my favorites!
