Wonderful Documentary on the Origins of the Bible
21 March 2008
This multi-part series was produced several years ago, but thoughtfully approaches how the Bible we know today was written. It approaches its subject matter historically, including as many basis for archaeological and other facts as possible. Thus it tells of the origins of the Bible from its earliest days as the Torah, to later incarnations and assemblages in Greek, then Latin, and into the common versions used today. John Romer is an excellent narrator for this intriguing subject matter. He is probably the best known television archaeologist and presenter of ancient history. His trademark style combines gentle humor, expertise and respect for ancient peoples and he is perhaps best known for his Indiana Jones-style large sun hat. This series is well worth seeking out, finding and enjoying.

Greatest Jean Shepherd Flick of All !!!
12 December 2005
Yes, Jean Shepherd fans will easily recognize the familiar characters established warmly in the classic movie "A Christmas Story". Ralph and his brother Randy have survived grade school, living with Mom and "The Old Man" and hurdling the obstacles of 1930's Teenagerhood in Hohman Indiana.

This is the definitive Fourth of July movie, an encapsulation of several of Sheps fondest stories from his days on the radio. The movie climaxes with the "Ballad of Ludlow Kissel" sung and performed by Sheps late wife and co-writer, Leigh Brown. If you can find it on DVD, or VHS, it is worth the effort.

This is a gem that deserves to be reintroduced to the American Public. Thanks Shep for the stories, and Exclesior, You Fatheads!

Fat Actress (2005)
Fat Actress is a BLAST!
14 March 2005
OK folks. I have been hearing about Fat Actress for about 6 months now and my expectations have been VERY low for this new comedy starring Kirstie Alley. However, SO FAR this series on Showtime has been the funniest new show of 2005.

Fans of Larry Davids "Curb Your Enthusiasm" will immediately warm to the situational disasters, misunderstandings, and pure dumb luck that help propel "Fat Actress" through its first episode. Aided by cameos from Hollywood folks such as John Travolta and others, Kirstie plays herself, spending much of her recent life lying on the bathroom floor eating chocolates, and crying at the ceiling. It is her sheer desperation, cell phone smashing conversations with her agent, and the ineptitude of others that help her to launch her "New Career"(despite all the "groceries in her trunk"). Enough said. I greatly look forward to episode 2 tonight. P.S. Larry David...you have really started something....(Hollywood Verite????)
