The Cave (2005)
Could have been better, but not as bad as I thought it would be.
I thought the movie would be boring and not scary. While it isn't boring, it's not that scary. The script should have been more scary and have had more character development. The acting could have been better too, but it's decent overall.
The director does a good job with the movie. The movie looks nice on the eyes and there's some creepy moments, but like I stated earlier, just not scary enough. The productions values are also good. Don't know how much it cost to make, but it looks like they did a good job.
The Cinematography is good throughout the entire film. The music was better than I thought it would be, and I might even pick up the soundtrack.
The CGI isn't the best there is...but it's never bad. The monsters look decent when you get to see them, which isn't often. With a better script this would have been a good idea, but as it is it isn't.
Consider renting this movie on DVD...watching it on cable will ruin the experience, as it would probably be in full screen.
7/10.
Grendel (2007)
Good movie, bad CGI.
The only bad thing in this movie was the CGI.
The Director did a good job for the most part. Didn't get the best acting out of his actors, but no one here was truly bad. The music felt like it belonged in the film. It did its job and nothing more. The set design was okay in some parts and TV like in others.
The movie was somewhat different from the poem. In this version, our hero Beowulf has this primitive high-tech bow and arrow. It actually has a sniper scope on it. The arrows shoot out of it with this blue light...exploding on impact once it hits something. A little high-tech for the time period.
The script isn't bad. It's not entirely true to the poem, but it's better than your average Saturday night Sci-Fi Channel TV flick.
I enjoyed this movie. Going into this movie...I hadn't heard too much about it. I knew it was coming out, but didn't really bother to watch it. I figured maybe it would be cheesy in a good way, but it wasn't. It wasn't cheesy at all in my opinion, but it was a good low budget movie.
Overall, a 8/10.
Man-Thing (2005)
Something is out there...
in the swamp killing people. It's a shame Marvel and Lions Gate Films, didn't put this movie in theaters. Instead, it went straight to Sc-Fi Channel as a ''Sci-Fi Channel Original Movie''. The movie isn't that loyal to the comic, but it's still a good movie imo. The acting is alright and the direction is good. Man-Thing himself looks good and a little scary. I think, the reason for the re-design of Man-Thing, was to make him blend in with the swamp. That way, it be harder to see him. This movie has a few cool death scenes, the best being Fred Schist's. It also has some nice music in it as well. And I can't forget about the swamp. Excellent job by the crew, they made one creepy swamp.
If you like comic movies or monster flicks, then Man-Thing may be for you.
